About
Capitol Hill is our second Tavolàta following the success of our Belltown location. House-made pastas, simple Italian cuisine, and a 20-foot communal table (tavolàta) are the focal point of this urban Italian-inspired eatery. Tavolàta offers a full bar and a wine list featuring Italian and Pacific Northwest wines.
Excellent service and amazing food. We will definitely be back!
Amazing food, phenomenal service, wonderful atmosphere. We had a great experience at Tavoláta—each dish was impeccable and the staff made us feel welcomed and so well taken care of. We will certainly be back!
Food and service was amazing as always! and a very fine wine list.
Service was outstanding, our waitress knew the menu well and was able to have great conversation. The appetizers were perfect. The main course lacked nothing in flavor, just a tad small in portion for the price. I'll definitely be going back as it was a quality experience.
We always enjoy Tavolata. The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the setting is attractive.
Loud and dark, but worth it because the food is good
I was immediately put off by the hostess who sat us and said even though it was happy hour we couldn't have a happy hour drink (because clearly spending $300 on food doesn't qualify us getting a couple dollars off our drink?! really!?) So right from the start I wasn't happy. BUT our waitress was fantastic, the food we ordered was delicious, and the atmosphere was great. If they weren't so off putting at the beginning ... I'd have given it 5+ out of 5! maybe she was a bad hostess or maybe the happy hour policy needs to have an exception if you are sitting in the dining room having DINNER, you'd think you could throw us a bone and let us have one drink on happy hour? really? Better than having us go away with a sour taste in our mouth. (I do understand they don't want the tables to fill with HH people making there no room for diners - but be flexible and see the difference)
You could tell the food was made well. Not the tastiest place but glad we went. Probably wouldn't go back but it had a nice ambiance.
Excellent meal!
Service was amazing! Food was delicious! 10/10 recommendation. Beet Salad is my favorite.
Overall everything was great
Bruchutto with chicken liver mousse and pickled onion was flavorful
The shrimp sauteed in white wine and tossed with pasta in a tomato sauce was excellent
Service was friendly
Had high hopes that this would be an excellent dinner and the food really disappointed. The pasta was either too buttery or too salty. The linguine did not taste fresh. Not going back. The first disappointment for us in Cap Hill.
Very good food, excellent service. We had reservations but we needed to wait at least 15 minutes to be seated.
One of my local favorites! Their pasta is amazing and service can’t be beat.
They have an amazing food and they are not expensive at all. And the staff is very friendly and cordial. I go there twice a month and plan to keep doing that for a long time.
Great date night meal and service and food was excellent.
Enjoyed our dinner at this restaurant. Only fairly large downside was the fact that one of our pasta dishes was cold upon arrival and downright icy by the end of the meal. We had 2 dishes between the 3 of us and luckily the second dish was hot. Would have sent it back but we were all starving. Also had to ask for spoons and pepper. Better if that was already on the table. Nice calm ambience.
Loved the pasta selections. Our server, Evan, was great.
We went to the Capital Hill location before a play at 12 Avenue Arts - about 5:30 PM. It was not very crowded then - but we've seen it full driving by and had not been able to get reservations on a weekend.
The Smoked Halibut Bruschetta was outstanding - not too smokey and not at all fishy. The portions are not large and basically ala crate - so it's good to get starters. We had the burata ravoli and the pork chop - both good, also the panna cotta and the sorbet. The short bread cookie was superb!
It could be noisy later on when full - all hard surfaces - the music (base) while we were there was for the younger crowd (and volume).
We will likely go again, but not immediately.
The service was great, but the food quality was inconsistent. Our pasta dishes were sub par and disappointing.
Wonderful food, wonderful service. What else can I say?
4 out of 5 items we ordered were super salty. Recommend to ask for low salt. Smoked fish bruschetta was the fav of the evening.
Good all around, especially the interior design; minimalist yet warm and inviting. A little weird having some bar seating over looking the long bench seating and tables.
Food is amazing, just slightly expensive. Where they lose me is the service. I’ve been several times and I️ find the wait staff in the dining room to be very rude (bar staff is spectacular on the other hand). Given the price tag I️ expect much higher quality staff and service.
Great food and even better service. It was a birthday dinner and they even got us dessert on the house.
The food was wonderful and the service was perfect, caring and personal without being intrusive, a consistent experience we've had at ES restaurants and the reason we keep coming back
Every time I come here, the food is outstanding, but the service is always a disappointment. On this occasion, our sever was super busy and did the best he could so I can't fault him. The host on the other hand was rude and seemed like she couldn't be bothered. We had a reservation and when we arrived, we stood at the door for a few minutes before being acknowledged. When she took us to our table, we were lead to the back part of the restaurant where the blinds were drawn. We asked if we could sit in the window, where there were two open tables, and she gave us a huff saying that she'll have to check to see if she could move some things around. We stood in the middle of the restaurant for a few more minutes as she fiddled with her tablet. Eventually we were led to a table and sat in the section that was still covered by the same server. I am not sure why it had to be so difficult. I've worked in restaurants for years and she made it seem like it was going to kill her.
Very good pasta dishes and my wife's Branzino was terrific. It's a loud space so not particularly good for a romantic dinner (e.g.: Serafina) but perfect for a group function or neighborhood drop in. Our server might have been new as she never asked for a drink order, never asked if we wanted some appetizers or bread, etc. Nice girl and she was trying to do well, however.
Our first time at Tavolata. Our server James was outstanding. He provided great recommendations and was very attentive.
Bad server!
Enjoyed our dinner, but I preferred the slight menu differences and ambiance of the other Tavolata location better.
Food was great.
Server threw away leftovers that we had asked to be boxed up to go.
Scalding hot water burns skin when washing hands in the restroom. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
The food was excellent, and our server Annie was amazing! An amazing server definitely enhances an already wonderful experience. It is wonderful to have such knowledgeable, friendly, and professional staff. The beet salad is a must have! I recently tasted the burrata and it is to die for! My go to choice as a vegetarian is the Gnochetti...so good! Tavolata is easily one of my top dining choices in Seattle. I will be back!
We were served by the rudest waitress I've ever experienced. Exasperated sigh before asking us our order, eye rolls through out the whole dining experience for basic things such as asking for bread as an appetizer for the table.
When we did ask for bread, she told us there was no way we'd get bread because the store "only can get a certain number of baguettes in a day" and that the chef, the waitresses, and no one around could get us bread (we didn't even ask for others opinions??) This is also an Italian restaurant. It doesn't seem crazy to ask for bread and expect not to receive an earful regarding the restaurant's poor bread management. And, to our surprise, a table was sat next to ours 45 min or so into our meal and what did they order and receive without a big to do? The baguette bread we were "schooled" on at the start of our meal. Couldn't believe it.
That being said, the restaurant seems to have all of their waitresses run food and the rest of the waitresses that assisted us or asked if we'd like refills were kind and we wished we could have been primarily served by one of them.
I had the gnochetti dish, which was a pesto gnochetti with truffle oil. I love truffle oil but there was so much of it in the dish along with other competing flavors I'm not sure why it's on the menu. I ended up picking off my husband's plate and barely touching mine. He had the restaurant's potato gnocchi dish, which was just fine.
Bottom line even if I had a better meal I was so surprised at my waitress's constantly eye rolls, sighs, and negative tone and body language even before greeting us that I wouldn't bother coming back.
This meal was the best one we had in Seattle during our vacation! Don was our waiter and he was just amazing. The food was beyond our expectations and was so fresh! Loved everything about our experience!
Creative, excellent quality, nice selection.
Food and service good. Noisy. Would like the option is a side salad with my pasta.
As usual the food at Tavolata is exceptional. Everything down to the cocktails and all the food are fresh made. That even make their own sausage - and it's as good as the sausage from Boston's North End or The Italian lady that lived next door to us as a kid growing up in southern New England
Home made pasta is also awesome
Ethan Stowell has better restaurants, just ok.
Everything about Tavolata Cap Hill is better than good. We were impressed by the variety of appetizers. There is plenty of table seating for those who don't want the communal seating. Our server was top notch. The food was excellent and portions more than generous. What more can I say--Ethan Stowell does it again and we are glad! We will be back.
