It took 20 minutes to get a beer in the restaurant and there was only one other table with customers. The waitress said the bar patrons are a priority over the restaurant patrons. Go figure! She told us she gave the bartender "her kid look" and it still took another 10 minutes. Our glasses were empty and we had to ask for refills twice. Isn't this how a restaurant makes money -- sell more beer/wine? Our cocktails and dinner took 3 hours. Very disappointing. Food was just okay.
I am very disappointed to hear about your experience with us at Tavola. The bar patrons do not take priority over any other patrons, we respect all of our guests and want to offer exceptional service to each. Please know we will be using this a teachable moment for staff. We do hope you give us another chance, thank you for taking time out of your day to let us know of your experience.
We had such a wonderful dinner here a few nights ago we decided to try their Sunday brunch to see if they were consistently good. YES THEY WERE!! Not crowded around 11 am for brunch so we had no problem getting in. We had four adults plus a high chair for our grandson. Great omelettes to order, French toast that was more like desert 😃, awesome grilled shrimp with polenta and Tuscan Country breakfast. Excellent service. We will return!!
Thank you for such a glowing review! We cannot wait to see you again soon!
Went for diner while in town on business. When we arrived we were told that a large group (24) had just ordered so it would be at least an hour before we were able to get any food. Decided to be seated and have a cocktail and relax. Excellent service staff took care of us, taking our order and bringing out some fresh bread, dipping olive oil and our salads and the wine we ordered. Shortly afterwards our appetizer appeared and then our main dish’s arrived in in a timely manor. The menu was fabulous and the food lived up to its delicious description. We enjoyed a wonderful Caesar Salad with excellent home made dressing, fire roasted prawns, and then Wild Boar Pappardelle finishing with a rhubarb frozen dessert. This was truly a wonderful dining experience and we will return with friends to share this great experience!!
Thank you for the excellent review. We are thrilled you enjoyed yourselves. See you soon!
Service was good, but the food was just okay. Out of 3 courses, the tomato basil soup was the standout. We ate the Restaurant Week menu, but I don’t think those dishes were the best from their standard menu.
Thanks for giving us a shot during restaurant week Danielle. Our full menu boasts many other offerings we hope you'll have a chance to try, see you soon!
We visited Tavola for the MSP Magazine Restaurant week, i didnt look much at the pricing on the main menu, so I cant speak to the pricing outside the prix fixe me i which was An excellent value. The atmosphere is great, we enjoyed our meals very much, I had a Caesar salad to start and the pappardelle pasta, I felt that The noodles were much wider that typical which made it a little awkward to eat, kind of like eating whole lasagne noodles, but the pasta was flavorful and the pasta tasted fresh and texture was perfect. We both had the rhubarb semifreddo for dessert which was amazing- I would go Back just for that alone! Our server was very friendly and had great timing, she was right there anytime we needed something and the food was courses perfectly we never felt rushed. I driver bu this place every day on my way to work and had no idea it existed, it’s a great little hidden gem- worth venturing to east downtown for.
We sure do love hand made pasta so ours is a little different than you may be used to. We are glad you enjoyed your restaurant week meal! As for dessert - yum! Cannot go wrong with a fresh cool ending. We hope to see you again soon!
Our waiter was very knowledgeable and service was good, aside from him the experience was very mediocre. The menu was not overly impressive. Food was good but not overly memorable.
We strive to make every experience a memorable one. We are sorry to hear the food did not do that for you! Please know we make our pastas and sauces from scratch here at Tavola, just like grandma would make! We hope you give us another try soon!
One entree was good the other was average at best. Wait staff wasn’t bad just not impressive. Everything was just ok/good. Nothing fantastic.
They have weird 2 person tables where you sit at a very awkward ways away from your friend/spouse. It was so uncomfortable we had to ask to move tables.
Thank you for letting us know of your experience. We are sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your table, but know we want you to be comfortable so we are glad you asked to be moved. We strive for unique homemade pastas and sauces so sorry we didn't make it a memorable experience for you. Give us another shot and we certainly will!
Very slow service, waited over 30 minutes for drinks, food was fine but not memorable. Nice space, good wine list, drinks overly strong.
We apologize about the slow service and wait on drinks - we understand that is unacceptable. Thank you for letting us know of your experience, please know we will take the comments to heart. We sure hope you give us another chance!
We went during Restaurant week, and though the food was good, it wasn't anything extraordinary. It was not worth the drive, traffic parking cost, and extra DT Mpls tax. When you include those with a tip, that adds 50% to the bill. Not Taviola's fault, it just is that way when dining in Minneapolis. To pay that premium, the food quality needs to be better.
Thank you for giving us a try, we are sorry to hear that your visit was anything less than exceptional. Please know we take your words to heart!
My guests and I enjoyed our evening. We sat in the large front room, where we could enjoy our conversation, without shouting. Appetizer with foccacia and garlic puree and burrata was wonderful! The salads were good, not over dressed. My entree, Carbonara, was disappointing. The guancile was mostly fat and tasted a bit ripe. The pasta itself was good, but overall, with the egg and cream, a bit too much sauce. The sorbets were outstanding! Loved my grapefruit with the candied rind. Disappointment of the evening, was lack of coffee. My guest wanted a decaf coffee, the waiter said it was not fresh, so he didnt have any. It was still early in the evening and he could have made a fresh pot. Then, I asked if they could make an espresso with decaf beans. No! An Italian restaurant that doesn't have an espresso machine, should be ashamed.
Thank you for stopping in to Tavola. I am glad you enjoyed your appetizers and sorbet. Please know we have taken your carbonara review to heart and are looking in to it. I am also deeply sorry you did not have a proper coffee service, that has been addressed! I assure you we have an espresso machine, we do not have decaf espresso at this time, but are working on that as well. Thank you for taking the time to let us know of your experience, we sure hope to see you again soon!
Our server Farah was great- I’m not a huge Italian food eater, but would definitely recommend this place!
Thank you for your glowing review! We hope to see you again soon!
This was the best service we have received so far at Tavola. The food has always been excellent. The wait staff has improved the pacing and attentiveness. Would recommend!
Thank you for the glowing review and taking time out of your day to leave us one! We are happy to hear you enjoyed yourself and cannot wait to see you again soon!
The service was terrible, the food and selection was not very good. The appetizers were awful. Pizza was rubber.
We are disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy the food an had terrible service. Please know we take these comments seriously and will use them as a teachable moment for the staff. Thank you for trying us out we hope you can give us another chance!
Waiters were not helpful even though only two tables in the restaurant were occupied. Menu was limited. Run-of-the-mill. Not a special place. Also, it was very cold in the restaurant and we were not offered another table, even though we asked.
They tried too hard on the food, simple is sometimes better. Burrata could have been simple with just tomatoes but it had olives mixed with the tomatoes which tasted very weird. Artichokes tasted like it was out of a can and were mixed with other things that didn’t go with simple grilled artichokes. Three cheese Risotto had mussels in it which made it taste like a tuna fish hot dish and it did not taste like risotto, rather rice. The restaurant was not very busy yet they seated a party of 2 right next to us when they could have been seated at any of 10 other open tables and given us each some more privacy. I rarely leave feedback on restaurants but this one was so bad that I had to say something. On a positive note, I had their meat pizza for lunch earlier in the day and it was very good.
Food was ok. Manager was very sweet.
Food was really mediocre. Service was slow. Would not recommend
Food was excellent. Large portions. Try the mussels, delish.
Service was slow - waited a little too long in getting drinks and water refills. We were a table of 9 so had alot going on. Staff was friendly.
I would definitely go again!
JudH, thank you for letting us know how your experience was. We are so glad you enjoyed the mussels, that is definitely a house favorite! We are sorry you waited too long for water and drinks, we will improve upon that for next time!
Always solid and a great value every time. Thanks Tavola
Thank you Dave! We love yummy food and drinks, glad to hear you enjoyed. We hope to see you again soon!
The server was disinterested. Didn’t bring bread until the first course. (“Oh, I forgot.) Didn’t deliver second glass of wine. Margherita pizza in edible. Crust was awful and toppings bland. Basil? Not so much. This is Minneapolis. They need a new chef. Someone who knows how to use an awesome pizza oven.
Thank you for letting us know about your experience Peggy. We will certainly use these experiences as a teaching moment for our staff and will look at where we can improve. We hope you give us another try and deeply apologize for the poor experience.
Was a great spot for date night while we were visiting from Florida.
Service was great and food was phenomenal.
We are overjoyed to hear you had a great experience on your visit to Minnesota. We sure hope to see you again next time you're in town!
My boyfriend and I went during HH on a Friday around 5:00pm. It was completely dead, no one was there. We sat at a table in the bar area so that we could choose from the HH menu. My boyfriend ordered a beer. I ordered the Days of My Youth drink and I did not like it at all. It was a beautiful drink but it was super smokey, tasted like a bon fire. I could see how someone would like it but I didn’t! I mentioned that I wanted a glass of wine after tasting the cocktail and our waitress was super accommodating and removed the cost of the drink as well as my glass of wine for the inconvenience. Great and unexpected service! For food we ordered two things off the HH menu and split each, it was more than enough. We ordered a pizza: Tre Formaggi. It was absolutely delicious. It had apples on it and a white cream sauce. Loved it. We also ordered a pasta: Fettuccini Carbonara. I loved this as well, my boyfriend wasn’t as impressed. It comes with an egg yolk on it, peas, and super salty meat. I thought it was lovely, the homemade pasta was so good. I would highly recommend going to the restaurant. We’re excited to go back and try new things! Apparently they have unlimited Bloody Mary and mimosa bar on Saturday’s for brunch. I would love to go back for that.
We pride ourselves on authentic Italian cuisine prepared with care and love and delivered with warm and friendly service, so your kind words fill us with great happiness! Thank you for taking time out of your day to post such a glowing review. We cannot wait to serve you again soon!
Ambiance was great, food was good, waiter friendly, but service extremely slow. It took a good 20 minutes to get a first drink.
Great food, would highly recommend. Our server was a little green.
Service could have been better. Numerous times we had to track down the server to order a drink or to get the drink.
Service was super slow when the restaurant wasn’t too busy. Our waitress took an 1 - 15 min to serve A round of drinks & appetizers. We had to leave for a concert after that & did t have time to order out meal. Not impressed.
Very underwhelming, went for a special occasion which we voiced when reserving, no mention by our waiter. Pretentious staff won’t be back.
I had made a reservation for 5:45 for four prior to the Garth Brooks concert at US bank stadium. We arrived on time and were seated and given water. We then sat for at least 30 minutes before our drink order was taken. We got our drinks and ordered at 6:30 (again we arrived at 5:45). Our food arrived after 7 (concert started at 7). The waiter set down my order which was not what I ordered. He then proceeded to argue with me that I did in fact order that. When we called the manager over she explained that there were two things on the menu with the same name and despite the fact that I pointed to the sandwich when I ordered, I received the pizza version which was tasteless. While the meal was compensated, that was literally the least they could have done. No one in my party will be returning.
Food was good, seated quickly. Took 25 minutes to get first drink after ordered. 2nd drink 15 minutes.. food was great but came out probably and hour after ordered. Not sure if issue was waiter or restaurant?
The quality and service of this restaurant has dropped precipitously since it opened. The service is spotty and uninspired. The bread we were given before our meal was stale. It took too long to get our drinks. The entrees are fine and appetizing enough but the experience on whole is disappointing. I'm sure profit margins are slim in this business, and if this location doesn't step up to the plate, it will soon be out of business.
Delicious, super nice waiter
They had several larger parties but not enough servers. It was a Saturday night! I don’t blame our server - ‘he was very nice but he was swamped. We had to flag him down several times. Even the host had to take some of the two tops! It was our first time there. Valet had to be tracked down before and after--husbands stood outside waiting for quite awhile.
The food was fantastic! Our server was a little slow, but very well informed and helpful. The atmosphere was comfortable, and relaxed. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back!
While the appetizers were good, all the entrees that included a protein (salmon, shrimp, and chicken dishes) were dry and overcooked.
Perfectly cooked al dente fettucine carbonara, salmon with artichokes, risotto and tre formaggi pizza! I also tried the Il Prunge Appese and it was a tasty little drink. Our server was outstanding, right amount of being there when we needed him, and letting us have our space. He had a great smile and knew how to treat us (as customers). Really good happy hour deals also. Only negative thing was a couple of people being really loud and obnoxious in the bar area. We will be back!
The food was good.in certain dishes, there was too much sauce or olive oil. I love them both and the main ingredient ought not swim in either one.
Was impressed with the variety and novelty of the dishes! Reasonably priced, too.
Place was almost empty in the dining room, but lively in the bar. We had cocktails in the bar and then moved to table. Nonetheless...service was slow to start with only three dinner tables served by one server. Service got better as the other two tables cleared out. Appetizer was good, salads very good. main course good. Salmon prepared to correct temperature, but steak was medium instead of medium rare. We declined to call back because the service issue did not instill confidence. I'd give it another shot at another time to see if things improve.
Had no idea what to expect. Was lovely place, great service and awesome food!
Interesting cuisine and outstanding service. The bar was nice and the restaurant itself was comfortable and appealing.
