Our first visit was during Restaurant Week. We all chose to order from the RW menu. Some things surprised us and some were just delicious. The tomato soup was wonderful (and I don't usually like it!). The bouglanese was really delicious! Others enjoyed the chicken parm. Desserts were delicious too! And just the right size. Good service. Quiet atmosphere. Delicious food. Only negative would be parking (although we did get lucky and get a space in front of the restaurant!).
We visited during restaurant week. The service was excellent. The food was good, but not on gourmet level.
We all 3 drove separately and parked in adjacent garage. The biggest disappointment was that we were told we didn’t have to validate our parking. When we all left the parking garage we all were charged $10.00!!
So after spending almost $60.00 per person, we got stuck with another $10?
What a racket they have going! We won’t be back!
The food was great. I'm still savoring the lamb / kale soup. It was fantastic. I had really great service.
The server was great. She was the saving grace of our experience. Restaurant was not at all busy when we arrived for our 8:00PM reservation; we tried to get in a little bit earlier (7:30PM) and couldn’t because they were just “slammed.” The heater in the restaurant sounded like a freight train when it turned on, and you could feel the blowing fan. It was actually cold. The music was cranked up and there were maybe 25 guests total, if that, in the restaurant. Not only was the music way too loud, it was not at all the right music for the ambience they’re trying to create; to be frank: it was awful. The entrees were fair (we both ordered the same thing) and my salmon was half-cooked and chewy. After waiting a bit before the server came back around, we were finally able to tell the server. She graciously offered to reheat the dish but, upon taking it back to the kitchen, the chef decided to re-prepare it. Thankfully, the salmon was cooked perfectly, but the dish overall lacked in the flavor department. The dessert was over-fried “beignets” which just tasted like burnt donuts. The entire experience went from “we’re excited to have a nice dinner” to “well, now I feel like I wasted $90 I won’t get back.” KC Restaurant Week seems to have gone downhill.
The staff was cordial and pleasant. The first course focaccia was hard with the chorizo not having much flavor. The house salad was very acidic with nothing to balance the acidity. The real chicken sandwich was very good the chicken breast was moist not dry with a flavorful charm to it. DA only would’ve been nice to have more garlic flavor but it was satisfactory and complemented the greens and the chicken breast well.
My wife and I went during restaurant week. This was the 1st time we went to this restaurant. I have walked by this restaurant many times but never had a meal here. I regret that I never ate in this restaurant in the past. We had a wonderful time. The food and service are exceptional. We will certainly be back again.
We attended restaurant week here and it was a wonderful experience!! Our only complaint was that we were unable to receive one of the desserts we ordered as the espresso machine was down, but they replaced that dessert with another! Will definitely be back!
Not the best Italian food, but great ambiance. Definitely go to speakeasy afterwars
We happened to dine at a time when no one was around, so our server gave us all the attention.
Food was great, Server was awesome!
Great dinner! Will definitely go back!
Docked you a point for sitting us close to the outside door
Very good. My friend and I enjoyed it before a show at music hall.
Food was very average. Not served very hot. Drinks expensive. Service was ok. But hot food for a lower price would go a long way. My first time here in November I had pasta and it waa good. Second time back I ordered a cocktail and entree and it was disappointing...
This was my second visit to Tavernonna, and I was very disappointed with the length of time we had to wait for both our appetizer and our main courses. The three people who came with me we're not impressed. Better get your kitchen figured out, or your business will suffer.
From start to finish, we had a superb experience! I tentatively give a rave review for fear that if this gem of a restaurant becomes too popular, I may not be able to get a reservation! Our server was outstanding and the food was awesome! I’ve added Tavernonna to my KC Favorites’ list!
Food was fine. Service was poor. There are many better restaurants in Kansas City. Don’t waste your time with this one.
My family and I attended Tavernonna for Christmas brunch and the food, service, and atmosphere were just fantastic... I had wanted to try this place for one of the major holidays but could not convince the family to try a restaurant instead of a home dinner until this year. And everyone walked away with smiles, so I think I proved that a good restaurant menu can be a great experience!
The experience was awful. The squid ink pasta tasted like chemicals and had to be sent back by 3 of our diners, the duck confit pasta had less taste then white rice and the brisket meatballs were dry as toast. The Brussel sprouts were good as well as the short rib. The server kept disappearing and lectured us when trying to get med plus as the temperature for the flatiron steak were as chewy as grizzle even though they were served rare. Overall a lousy experience for a high price that ruined a birthday dinner. I don’t recommend this restaurant. Extremely disappointing .
Delicious food, excellent service, enjoyable experience. Nice restaurant that captured Italian and Midwest flavors. Short ribs were wonderful. Will return
Ample space for seating however, benches sat so low the ladies could not reach the table comfortably sitting in them and the men had difficulty also. Menu items are ala carte and a bit on the pricey side. Service was pleasant but marginal. We mentioned during our reservation we were celebrating a birthday but no mention was made by the staff of this event.
The food was not just ok. My husband and I shared the Bolognese pasta with braised brisket- that was pretty good. The butternut squash aranchini was also good. Our main courses didn’t have much flavor- The duck and the steak. The lentils with the duck also had no flavor but the parasnip puree was pretty good. The ricotta doughnuts were good. Overall just ok, if I were to go again I would probably stick with the pasta.
A bit of a disappointment. There is nothing horribly wrong with the place. It just isn't 4 or 5 star.
The menu seemed a bit limited. The pasta dish I had was well prepared. the bolingasse sause had braised beef and clearly had been thoughfully prepared, but it was cold when it made it to the table. I would rate the place above Milano's -- but not as good as the traditional favorites. We ended up spending $100 for a two of us, and I epected more for the money. It is convenient if you are going to a show.
Amazing food and service!
Great service, decent food. Small portions, but delicious.
Hit this place prior to an event at the Sprint Center. Had a great meal. The food was excellent and the waiter, Blake, was very knowledgeable and personal. Really had a great experience. Would recommend.
Came here for lunch. Asked the waiter for recommendations for wine by the bottle which was too pricy for first option and second option he recommended after we decided was not available. Salad had absolutely no dressing on it. We all had a pasta additionally which was tasty. Asked if there was any bread and the waiter explains they only serve bread with dinner so we paid for bread to go with our pasta at lunchtime.
Had a very good meal here with excellent service. The pastas and meatballs were especially outstanding and would recommend.
Great food & great location! Really pretty inside & had great service. Had a wonderful time & will be coming back!
Menu offering is what we see in New Your and Chicago.
Food and Service way terrific
The bread that they bring to the table was especially delicious!
Great Italian and definitely a must if in downtown KC overnighted or lunch meeting.
We loved our meal at Tavernonna. The flavors of our meal were exceptionail and our cocktails were so original and delicious. Our server Blake was so friendly and knowledgeable about the food, the area and had great stories about the history of Kansas City. I would definitely go again when in Kansas City.
Wonderful meal for thanksgiving. Food was excellent, service was quick and polite. Highly recommend for a family gathering. Will definitely go back.
Great food and great service. It's not cheap, but not more expensive than other places with that level of food and service. We'll go back.
A perfect place for a meal before a show at The Music Hall. When you arrive early to eat before the show you get a great parking place in Barney Allis parking garage. It's a quick walk to the restaurant. Perfect!
Tavernonna is an excellent KC dining experience - good drinks, food, dessert, ambiance, and service. We especially enjoyed meeting Blake - a great server who is dedicated to the restaurant and culture that they want to promote. Check em out!
We brought our kids (6,11) here for dinner before a show. They loved the meatballs and the braised beef. Everything we had was delicious.
Dinner before show. Food and drinks were very good. We like to go here before shows downtown and we're not disappointed. Limited menu but very well prepared.
Great location for downtown evening events like the Midland. Server(s) were friendly and very good. Our salads and dessert was very good, as were our cocktails. Entrees were nothing to write home about, but warm and filling. Probably overpriced for the meal, but the ease of the location made up for it (to some degree).
