We had high hopes but left disappointed. The cost was not worth the quality or quantity. If you like salt you might love it but it was a little too much for us not to mention part of the pasta was hard and the scallops were burned and the meal was missing items. $10 for a 4 oz pour of wine. The only saving grace was our waiter. The manager on the other hand showed a complete lack of the understanding of customer service and scolded our waiter and other staff in front of customers. Can’t say as if we will ever go back!
We went there for Valentines Dat before seeing Come From Away at the Music Hall. Meatballs were really great, loved that they were made from brisket and had no pork. Sauce and the bread was terrific as well. I had the chicken parm and that was very good also. Did not care for the pickled vegetables on the side. My husband and I both thought the menu choices were limited. There was no fish on the menu, mostly beef and the seafood items had pork in them. While his pasta was good and my food was great, a little wider menu would be better. Service was very good! Overall enjoyed it and easy to get to the music hall.
Meatballs very good
pasta okay, not great
service was very friendly
Celebrating a birthday lunch with colleagues, and even had my 9 year old with us as school was out. It was a great experience, the food was amazing, service was spot on, and they added a birthday candle to the desserts.
We have come here several years in a row for brunch while in Kansas City for a dance competition. This time, however, it was a strange experience. We felt like they didn’t particularly want to accommodate our party of 7 people even though the restaurant was fairly empty, and they didn’t want us to order off the menu because they had a buffet. I don’t think we will be back although it used to be a favorite spot.
This is a hidden gem! Blake was our server. He was well educated and excited about the menu. This made our dining experience top-notch!
Service, food, wine, all top notch. Salami & Cheese platter was super carefully curated with fine ingredients. The meatballs are AMAZING. If you’re in downtown KC there probably isn’t a better place to dine. Definitely a go-to for us!!
The Branzino was very good and the Butternut risotto and focaccia were very good also! The vibe is semi casual and the menu has a nice selection of entrees and small plates. I definitely recommend giving it a try.
Both our meals were excellent. Aa little pricey, but always willing to pay a little more for quality....and you get it! We boxed both meals and ate them 2 days later.....still excellent!
Great place to dine downtown away from the hustle and bustle of Power and Light. Close enough to Power and Light to walk to a concert. Everything was delicious.
I would recommend the food, but the service was not good. Server was rude and everything we asked for seemed to bother him. The food was amazing! You can tell it's made from scratch and a lot of flavor. Everyone in our party raved about how great the food was!
I will definitely be back. What we ordered during lunch was delicious and very reasonably priced.
Fun night out! Excellent service and comfortable atmosphere. Nice spin on modern Italian fare
Always like to try new venues. The restaurant was dark ,not well lighted, and not very busy for a Saturday night. We tried a few appetizers which were fine, especially liked the grilled romaine with a fresh egg on top. My husband had the bolognese and I the pappardelle with mushrooms and wild boar which was hearty. Probably the most disappointing thing was a need to keep asking for things you would hope the restaurant would be at the ready to provide, a knife, another spoon, cheese for your main dish. I am always excited at new openings in Kansas City, just not sure I would make this trip again.
Christmas Dinner - We stayed at Hotel Phillips on our way to Kansas on Christmas Day. Downtown KC was pretty much shut down, and the Hotel restaurant and bar was open for limited hours on this day. We sat at the bar and had drinks and ate at the bar. Staff was friendly and very helpful. We chose a few small plates to share off the menu and all was very good. We would definitely dine here again on a future visit through KC.
The environment and decoration of the place was beautiful! Really enjoyed dessert, would come back for more! However there was just a bit too much sauce with the chicken parm and we had to ask for a high chair for our 15 month old after waiting for awhile (even though we had asked for one with our reservation) - heard a server be rude to another server, albeit it being subtle, we still noticed. If anything, I would come back for the desert but that’s about it.
Brian and Rachel did a great job of explaining and making suggestions for our meals. The artichoke app was awesome and the rigatoni was superb! Highly recommend stopping by and enjoying a meal. Also there is a speak East below with great drinks...fun spots in KC!
We made a reservation yet they were not ready for us. We told them we had an hour to get to a show - they said ok - then service was slow. Server nice but not engaged. Food was warm but not hot. Overall, a fine, but not great, experience.
Food was excellent, the service was fabulous and the ambiance was awesome. This was our group of six's first time there and everyone loved their appetizers and dinners! I think my favorite dinner was the Flat Iron Steak. I got the Chicken Parmesan which was also fantastic!
Wine menu was overpriced. Service was so so. Dessert was delicious however it’s not hard to mess up ice cream with espresso.
Good. The dessert menu was mediocre. Only gelato was available. That’s not what I call acceptable.
I enjoyed the restaurant; it was fairly quiet and tastefully decked out. The food was solid if not spectacular. I had the mushroom papardelle. The pasta itself was very good.
Great place to dine before the theater. The meatballs are a favorite.
The unique combinations of spices, food and preparation made for an outstanding culinary evening! Also the service was excellent - engaging, efficient and well informed. All in all, one of the best evenings out in quite a while.
Food was awesome. The mussels with their broth was so good I wanted every last drop. I had the mushroom pappardelle, I was so stuffed. I wanted to eat every last drop but couldn’t.
Blake is wonderful. 💛
The restaurant was nice. But the food had an odd taste.
Very warm and inviting and food was amazing. Can definitely tell it’s all cooked fresh and with time and consideration.
My daughter and I ate at Tavernonna for Thanksgiving Dinner. Her husband is a firefighter and was working - I flew in from out of state - not wanting to cook a big meal for the 2 of us - we took a chance and went out. We were not disappointed! The food and the service were outstanding. Can not say enough about the goodness of our food nor the delightful disposition of our server. We walked out full and happy!
I had such fears about going to Tavernonna; it was untested and I’m a foodie who frequently reads critical reviews for choosing my restaurants, but we knew nothing about it and it was my birthday dinner with my husband and 11 month old daughter. I’m SO glad we went. The waiter, Blake, was very attentive, allowed me to taste several wines as Cabernet is more my speed, but Italian wines were more prevalent on the menu. I found one I adored. My husband had the sazerac and said it was very good. We both split the beet salad, it was perfect. My husband ate the fried chicken Parmesan and I had the wild boar and mushroom paparedlle; both were incredible. For dessert, we split the doughnuts. Oh.my.god. Delicious. Honestly, one of the best meals we’ve had in town for a long time and we spent a lot of money eating out. I highly recommend Tavernonna. I’m already dreaming about going back!
The food was tasty, but the portions were very small. I had soup and a salad and was still hungry afterwards.
No, I would not. I was expecting something a little more upscale. The waiter spilled water on my dress, I would have preferred a seat a little farther away from others seated so we couldn't hear every word of their conversation, and the pasta was undercooked in my opinion. We were also not offered a dessert selection or menu of any kind and the waiter switched our drink orders and could not remember who ordered what.
I had a business dinner with out of towners and the location was perfect. The service was great both in the reservation area and wait staff.
Overall a wonderful experience. We were staying at the Hotel Phillips and had a concert at the Sprint Center so Tavernonna was picked for convenience. Unfortunately soon after we sat down the power went out and so we were unable to try any of the delicious things on the menu. Regardless, our waitress was very helpful, even calling the Sprint Center to make sure their power wasn't out and our concert would still run on time. Judging based on our drinks and wait staff, but I would definitely choose to eat here again if we were in the area.
We were excited to try this place, unfortunately the experience was not as expected. The food was just ok, nothing special. I felt it was over priced. Pears on app were brown and hard. Service was great.
Great location! I loved the vibe and the decor of this lovely Italian eatery. The BEST focaccia bread I've ever had! I appreciated the smaller portions of pasta. Great wine list. I look forward to returning!
Good food and good service. First time and will definitely come again.
Xlnt food for our party of 4. 2 of us shared an order of mussels which were very good. The other couple shared a beet salad, also very good. Then each couple shared an order of sturgeon, which was xlnt.
Only criticism I have is the highly over-priced spirits & wine. $34 for a single serving of Oban single malt scotch whisky is outrageous. Prior to this, the most I had seen on a menu was $18. Wines are similarly over-priced.
