Taverna Mykonos Ratings and Reviews
OUTSTANDING!!!!....WOW.....What are great restaurant !!! This is what a Greek restaurant should be. The place look so cool and I feel like I am in a hopping Greek Island. The cocktails are the best i have ever had. The food is AMAZING!!!. OMG...I ordered one honey saganaki and then ordered 2 more because it was so tasty. This is the BEST OCTOPUS i have ever had. Better than GREECE. I am coming back Tuesday for Lunch!!
We always enjoy dining at Taverna Mykonos since the food, service and ambiance is usually first rate. But this last time there was a large family dinner at the front of the restaurant. Normally that would be fine, but the parents let the little children run all over the place, shouting. At the very minimum, the restaurant should have insisted that the parents better controlled their children. This wrecked the ambiance for us that night.
Took a chance on this spot this past Saturday, mainly because they had a vegetarian/vegan friendly menu. The meat eaters and vegans of our group were all thoroughly impressed with the knowledgeable and friendly wait staff, cocktails and food. I highly recommend and we will definitely return!
Five of our family met for a very pleasant lunch at Taverna Mykonos.
The interior of the restaurant is cool and white. Classy but not excessive, all in good taste.
We had a large round table in a semi-private nook.
We started off with some spreads, a threesome under the heading of "silogi" We chose Taramosalata, Melitzanosalata and Tzatziki. All three were mild and understated but pleasant versions, accompanied by a basket of crusty, rustic bread and wedges of pita.
We also shared a plate of Octopus: "sushi-quality Mediterranean grilled octopus, capers, red onions, red wine vinegar extra virgin olive oil" This dish outshone the spreads and I craved more.
I'd gone in thinking I that for my main course, I'd have either the beef stifado or lamb shank, but when we were presented with a Specials Menu, I immediately saw that Soft Shelled Crabs were offered. That was irresistible, and I ordered that. I had no regrets.
My wife had a simple, very large salmon filet, my sister a Chicken Souvlaki (she said it was all right, but she was disappointed that there were no vegetables, and furthermore, the accompanying pilaf was not very good.) Niece had a neat and compact Moussaka, and her husband enjoyed a dramatic Lamb Shank on the bone.
To drink, we selected a delightful, crisp Sauvignon Blanc, I think from California. It was so good, we ordered a second bottle.
For dessert, I chose Ekmek, a light custard atop a base of shredded filo. That was one of the best desserts I've had in a restaurant. I also had a decent espresso. Nephew had a warm chocolate cake and my sister chose rice pudding
Service was very competent and unobtrusive. The dinner menu offers more meat dishes. The food was generally excellent. If we lived in the area, I would definitely return.
Grilled octopus was the best I've ever had. Beet salad was tasty and a generous size. Chilean sea bass was cooked to perfection. Rice pudding was good, not great. Would definitely go back. Wish the location was in a cute little town instead of right on route 4/Broadway.
This is a great restaurant. The owner who greets you personally is friendly and charming. The food is nothing short of amazing--he goes out of his way to source the best ingredients, many from Greece. The service is also outstanding. A really wonderful experience.
I had suggested coming here with my friend for dinner. I heard so many good things. I will definitely give this another try, but our dinner Friday night was a little lackluster. My salmon special was dry, the tomato salad special was bland, and the Mojito I had was excessively sweet. While the staff was very attentive, it was sometimes too much. The restaurant was empty and yet it seemed like they were trying to rush us by constantly coming over. I will say, that my girlfriend liked her swordfish dinner. As I said, I will try it one more time, but I feel it may not live up to the hype.
A little out of the way, in a nondescript location near a small strip mall. Good decor and a nice chill vibe inside. The highlight was definitely the service. Wait staff was incredible. Food was very good. Enjoyed a stiff martini and a drink of ouzo as well. Good experience, would not hesitate to go back.
Though the food is excellent and the atmosphere compelling we will not return to this restaurant we have frequently visited. The manager was rude, surly and refused to honor our written request (on Open Table) for a booth when the restaurant was 2/3s empty and most booths were available. The booths remained empty when we departed after dinner.
What a disappointing experience!
