Tavern on the Bay Grill
Monday - Thursday 4pm - 11pm
Happy Hour daily 4pm - 6pm
Waitress was outstanding! Weather was terrible but this place made up for a bad weather weekend. Everyone said hello even the bartenders from a far.. very nice place will return.
We go frequently -easy to get reservation. Food is always really good. But service is always really terrible. Expect to spend hours and hours there.
Nice atmosphere but the service was absolutely horrible. While our waiter was pleasant there were just too any things gone wrong to be acceptable. It started out with not enough menus when we arrived. We had to share. It was addressed but never fixed. Then it kept going for there. Took a long time to take our order. No bread plates. Drinks took forever to come. Orders came out wrong. Just not a good experience
We had a reservation at 6:45 on a Monday night. We arrived and waited about 5 minutes before the hostess showed up; then we waited another 10 before we got seated even though the restaurant was technically empty. We set outside; our waiter was slow and less than helpful. Half the table got their dinners significantly sooner than the rest. It seemed that our waiter would just randomly show up with a plate whenever he felt like it. The live music was blasting the entire time to the point that we could not have a conversation. Overall, not a good experience; we are not planning on going back.
pulled up to valet and waited..no valet showed up. walked in and waited to be sat. no host or hostess showed. Found a bus boy who then had to look for a host. ended up being sat by the bus boy. Waited 3 separate times with EMPTY water or beverage glasses. Both our meals were wrong. The crab cake was mostly filler. it is a shame because the deck and view were lovely, but doubtful I'll return.
This place needs a makeover. Wonderful location on the water but the drinks were weak, bartenders lax, service slow and honestly much of food being served smelled fishy which worried us but believe it or not our apps were ok. We didn’t order dinner after all because the environment wasn’t great. There wasn’t even a hostess to seat us when we got there so we sat ourselves.
This place should be hopping but it’s always empty. Lovely water view and nice outside bar. Server was very friendly but the food takes a long time (kitchen is not large enough for volume). The upside is that you can always get a table. I called 1 hour before and asked if we could have a window table. I was told “sure” but arrived to taken to the empty back room. Seems to be a bit of miscommunication but we did get moved.
It’s too bad the owners don’t want to really re-imagine this venue. It has potential.
I came in for dinner with my whole family we come every year my mom loves the view of the bay and ocean city bridge . This year they had a great new menu We had Clams in white wine garlic butter sauce then Bang bang shrimp Also the Big shrimp cocktail And calamari. Everthing was perfect I had the surf and turf my mom got the Bronzino with crab and shrimp scampi and my dad got the seafood medley pasta my brother got the shrimp and crab pasta. And my sister got the filet Oscar Thanks to our waiter Tracy she always makes us feel like family . For moms birthday they bright out a tiramisu with a candle . We will be back soon I recommend this place to everyone .
Noise too loud-Music needs to be toned down. Did let management know. Was advised 90% approve of the loud music.
The food was good. The crab and spinach scampi over linguine was very good. Crab cakes were average. My friend enjoyed her salmon. Live music was nice, singer had a great voice but it was too loud for dinner at 7:15. I asked waitress to have her turn it down and she did a bit. The view in the bayview room was excellent.
They have an amazing view of the bay!! You pay for the view, the food is good.
I wanted to give this place a try even though the reviews were bad. Plus we really needed to go to a place with no wait. Well, should have listened to the reviews. Service was lousy. Food was average but pricey. It’s a shame because the building is beautiful and the views of the bay are great. It used to be a great place when it was Max’s (?). Not anymore
To begin we picked this place because of the menu listed online and when we got there it was MUCH different and limited. Our server was very nice but when we ordered drinks and two apps she informed us one was out and the other one never came. The food was awful and expensive and took so long! My chicken bruschetta was a cold dry piece of chicken with some tomatoes on raw spinach with 3 asparagus. The salmon was inedible. It was an awful experience and when we talked to the manager and he said he wasn't going to charge us for the things we didn't get. Really??! Just awful- do not go here!
Server was in the weeds! Drinks tool too long for server to deliver to table, it was down hill from then on! Food was good but delivered cold. When paying bill server apologize for service. It was not over crowded.
Awesome place! Great view, great food, great service
Its really a beach bar. I wouldn't go back. Unless I was wearing a bathing suit. Not what I expected base on the information on the web site. The information was miss leading.
Left without ordering dinner!
Restaurant was not busy but we waited for service even with reservations. Beverages were never refilled including our water glasses. Despite the American Express logo being displayed in the front window and our check being presented inside a sleeve that displayed the American Express logo when we tried to pay our bill we were informed the restaurant did not accept American Express credit cards.
Food was great! Nice views overlooking the bay and bridge. Our server, Jerry, was top notch!
Our server had tpo many tables. I had to get our own silverware. Our drinks took a while to come out and another 15min to order. The food wasnt bad but needed seasoning. They are more of a bar than a nice reataurant. Was not worth the money we paid. If they had more staff it might help put
We planned to dine at a local seafood establishment at the shore which does not accept reservations. Afternoon rainstorms resulted in huge crowds for a Tuesday evening- and a 2 hr wait time.
I quickly searched local availability on the Open Table app, and located Tavern on the Bay, just 0.5 miles away. I.booked the reservation and took my rain-soaked party down the road.
What we found was simply amazing. The restaurant is well appointed, modern, plenty big enough and has a fabulous 180 degree view of the bay and of ocean city. The staff were very friendly and attentive. But there were just. Handful of tables occupied at 7pm. I couldn’t understand why they weren’t filled to capacity. The prices are decent for the shore ($20-$30 entrees). My only fear was that the food quality would be poor.
Boy I couldn’t have been more wrong. Everything was terrific!!. The Calamari and bruschetta appetizers were prepared nicely, tasted great and had came in big portions. Each of our dinners were excellent, also served as generous portions. The chicken dish was grilled to perfection, and the salmon was cooked to flaky deliciousness
Tavern on the Bay was an unexpected home run on a dreary rainy weeknight in July. We will absolutely return for additional meals, and will be sure to tell all our friends and neighbors to check out this gem in Marmora.
If you go this summer (2018), ask for Justin as a waiter. A very pleasant young man who just graduated college and is headed for law school in the fall. He took care of us this evening and has a great rapport.
Exceedingly disappointed. Pasta sauce was canned, thick and sweet. The prime rib was tough and overdone. Menu on line not even close to menu we got.
The service was very poor. We sat for 15 minutes before getting any water. The waiter had told us 4 times that our bread would be right up but yet we had to ask again and it came 3 min before our entree’s. The food was just ok. We ordered thesurf and turf. The best part was the live music and ambience. Would recommend this restaurant for drinks out but if you are in a hurry or really looking for delicious food, I would pass.
We had a birthday dinner reservation for 7:30. Upon arrival the owner told us we would have at least a one hour wait. He asked if we wanted to wait at the bar. When we asked where the bar was, he looked at us, and said “really you should just leave, we can’t handle you tonight”. Never was treated like this before at a restaurant. Will never go back again. Thank you.
Too few waiters. 30 minutes sitting before anyone asked us if we wanted a drink.
We had a table of 12, so the kids food came out 1st which was completely okay but the adults wait 20 extra more mins for our food and when it came out only 3 ppl got served than had to wait another 5 mins than 3 more ppl got served, than repeat
Our waitress should of had help
I will start off by stating our poor experience was not due to our server. It took ~40 minutes to receive appetizers and over ~1 hour to receive our entrée. The dining room was not crowded but management blamed the delays due to a wedding they were hosting upstairs. We were seated near the bar and still had to wait was an excessive amount of time for a drink. We dine out constantly and my expectations are realistic, however this was a very bad experience. We spent $500+ on dinner. At these prices the service should be much better.
Everything was perfect for our dinner. 800 Bay ahs the best view on the shore. Our waitress Tracy was great and the food was delicious.
Not crowded but service was slow
1. We were seated and waited 15 minutes before server approached
2. There was a spill on floor that no one cleaned up for 30 minutes
3. An employee slipped on floor and spilled water and accidentally bumped into customers at a table
4. The customers became annoyed and left restaurant.
5. Our food came- my prime steak was sour and awful. I sent back. Ordered baked potato with butter and no butter was brought.
6. Son ordered cheeseburger and it came with no cheese
7. On top of that, two employees got into argument in the restaurant over service issues. Real classy!!
This was awful experience and I hope they read and take it too heart. When a restaurant is not busy during the summer down the shore that is not a good sign. The view and ambience is very nice. Greeter at the door was nice.
After reading some reviews I was skeptical. Though I must say, everything we ordered was delicious. Steak was cooked perfect and flavorful. Appetizers, shrimp cocktail was fresh and crisp, fried calamari crunch on outside tender on the inside. We will definitely be back
My husband and I love this restaurant. It really is one of our favorite restaurants. However we were thee two weeks ago and were disappointed with the food and some of the service. Menus were scarce. The servers were scoping around to clear the dishes and glasses from the table. Felt rushed. The quality of the food has changed. The quality and taste just was not as good as before.
The saving grace is Caleb, the waiter, and the singer. They made the night. Also the guests there. I believe this restaurant draws a certain crowd of guests who prefer fine wine and dining with classy entertainment. I hope this feeling comes back the next time I dine there.
Not sure if it’s having financial or New mgmt issues.. but I hope this place will be restored!
Food and service was great! Our server was so nice and friendly. Dining with a great view. Overall ambiance was fantastic. Will definitely recommend this restaurant!!
We booked At Baia for a party of 6 but restaurant cancelled us last minute we thought we wouldn’t be able to find a good restaurant but thank you cause it turned out to be super great anyway plus we ended up to be a bigger party. Everyone was so happy!! We called to ask why but no one even returned our call to give us a reason why.
Horrible experience—hostess made us wait 20 mins even after reservations and the place was empty. Service was extremely poor had to wait almost 2 hours for our entree to arrive. Definitely will not recommend anyone go here
Horrible service. Will never go back.
Tony was great! The chef was super too!
I dined with my Significant other and our 5 kids here on Memorial Day Weekend Sunday. Although the weather was miserable (raining), we received a nice round corner table on the Marina which was an excellent atmosphere for the family dinner. Our waiter was personable, friendly, attentive and helpful (even smapped a few family photos for us). Everyone enjoyed their entrees but I will say my lobster tail was dry and the filet was below average. The atmosphere, service and views made up for my sub-par surf and turf. The live music, open floor plan and location will bring us back.
We came in about 8 minutes before our reservation time and the host said the table isn’t ready and to check back in 10-15 minutes. I’ve never had to check back with the host in any other restaurant so thought this was strange. I went back and another hostess said we were never checked in and would be a few minutes more. Another 15 minutes and we are seated (now more than 20 minutes after our reservation time). The server came and took our drink order and then we waited a long time for her to take our food order (we were seated about 30 minutes at this point). We were given water but the pitcher ran out and I was told he would be right back to fill up my glass. He never came back but I had half a glass, and we had to flag down another server to ask for bread. We finally had our appetizer after almost an hour. Waited another half out for our entrees and then no sign of our server. My wife ordered lobster and it didn’t come with drawn butter. After asking for help from 2 people our server finally came over after 15 minutes of getting our entrees. At this point I finally got more water and my wife got her butter, but I had already finished my entree and had to sit there and watch her eat her dinner they had since gotten cold. In the end we were there almost 2 1/2 hours before we got our check.
Also the place was VERY loud. There is a musician whose amp was so loud that the other patrons had to speak very loudly to be heard.
Would not go back nor recommend this place.
I have yet to have a meal that was prepared correctly or arrived promptly. This time I tried the Porterhouse steak at $44 and ordered it medium-rare. It arrived after my companions food and was thin and shoe leather well-done. I returned it and half an hour later was presented with an almost raw thin cheap cut of porterhouse that I never would have purchased at the supermarket let alone expect from a place that calls itself a steakhouse. The shrimp cocktail appetizer was room temperature. The wait staff and was pleasant but could do nothing to overcome the wholly inept kitchen. Gordon Ramsey would be hard pressed to repair this place!
Very bad experience! Read my full review on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
We had a reservation for 6:45 pm. We should have known something was wrong when the hostess looked confused.
She asked us to go to the bar and our table would be ready soon.
After 30 minutes of waiting at the bar and asking the waitress how much longer would we be waiting we finally were seated.
The waiter was friendly but upon taking our order he made the comment that we might be waiting a little bit.
We placed our order for appetizers which came out fairly quickly.
We then placed our order for our entrees and we waited for 1 hour and 45 minutes for them to arrive. It was bizarre. Another table was served water from someone who looked like they just came from the beach. Complete with swim trunks and a fanny pack.
Needless to say we left without getting our meals.
Very poor, unorganized, unprofessional , chaotic restaurant. We read the 2017 reviews and thought it must have gotten better but they sure haven’t for 2018!
Do not go there!
