We made reservations over a month ago for March 17th, we were not celebrating St. Patrick's Day, just wanted to eat here. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and were seated in the bar. None of us were wearing green, there were plenty of other tables available throughout the restaurant, we were not offered a choice of seating. We spent the entire dinner enduring drunk people screaming and spilling their beer all over. Food was ok, service was ok. Would not return and will not recommend to anyone. They probably do fine during football season as they are right by Lucas.
Amazing bison burger! We enjoyed our meal before theatre- great service, professional and friendly. They ensured we made our theatre timeline as well. The food was both interesting and extremely tasty. I highly recommend!
My husband and I went here for a lowkey date night. We had a great experience. Our service was prompt and pleasant. Our cocktails were excellent. His meatloaf was better than my ahi tuna dish, but both were good. We had the black and tan dessert-- it was great-- not oversized or overpriced.
We had a great dinner before the Eagles' concert on Monday night. The service and food were both outstanding.
Great food and great service.
I was disappointed with our experience - the food was mediocre, the server disappeared, and the occasion that we were there to celebrate was never acknowledged. I would recommend a friend to pick another restaurant when dining in Indianapolis.
I was disappointed with my meal. The fish, which was recommended, was quite over cooked as was that of my client's. One had a burger which he said was tasty. A lot of fish on the menu so I would have thought they were adept at cooking it.
Always a good time with the best cocktails and great food. I love that it has it’s own parking and you can make reservations!!!
We dined for dinner for Savor Downtown Indy on Friday 3/2. The restaurant was fairly noisy, and the service was slow. The food was good not great.
Very good surf and turf special for Valentine's day. Excellent staff.
I’ve been to Tavern On South several times for lunch but do not often make it for dinner. My family went on a Saturday night before an event at Lucas Oil. Our server was very friendly and did a good job...but the wait for our food was terrible. Additionally, when my husband and I got our burgers they were basically rare. Considering their proximity to the stadium I would think they would be better equipped to handle large crowds. So - I would recommend lunch when it’s not terribly busy but won’t be going back for dinner any time soon.
The food was all very good. A little overpriced but really neat atmosphere
Nice menu. Downtown but not in the midst of the busy traffic. Parking can be limited.
Service was horrible. Waitress did not appear to be intrested. And the food was uninteresting at best.
I like the atmosphere, the menu and the craft beer selection. there are usually people coming over from Lucas Oil Stadium next door, so be mindful of when there are events going on. we happened to be there when there was high school event so there were several families there.
I suggest that the lights be dimmed a little, but overall it was a very good experience.
We went there for Devour Indy! It was my first time there and really enjoyed it. The food was very tasty and the prices were reasonable! Great experience!
Loved the duck wings
Very slow service, waiter rude. Ordered Medium Rare filet which came out well done and looked and tasted more like sirloin. Did redo meat but came out when others finished, no apologies. Will not return.
Food was great as usual service great management very intent on making sure customers are happy
At first I was disappointed we were taken upstairs, in less nice, more casual setting. It did not appear full downstairs and we had this reservation for NYE. I wanted to see outside from our table, but our waitress was very good, and it ended up being very enjoyable. Good food.
Took over 30 minutes to get our food. Steak was cold. Took another 10 minutes to get a steak knife. Mashed potato cold. Salad didn’t have all the ingredients in it that were listed on the menu
Vegan friendly with several meal options. Prices are fair. Overall, nice experience. Would highly recommend.
Nice comfortable atmosphere. Great food and nice local beer selection. Our group’s go-to.
Great food and friendly service. The staff did a great job!
Only complaints are that parking can be a problem when busy and the 2nd floor was not accessible to me when my group was there. I was told there was no elevator access which surprised me. I had to leave.
Service was excellent, food was great, atmosphere was conducive to business discussion.
The service and location are great. It was our 3rd or 4th visit, and the food wasn't quite as good. The salmon was VERY dry and flavorless. Pizzas, meatloaf and brownie dessert were good.
UNBEATABLE LOCATION RELATIVE TO LUCAS OIL STADIUM. PROMPT, FRIENDLY SERVICE. ACCOMMODATED OUR GROUP OF 12 NICELY.
Tavern on South never disappoints. Nothing too spectacular, but always good food and service in a very pleasant atmosphere. A large space means that the wait is never unmanageable and reservations are honored.
Food was good but not outstanding, beverage service was quick, waiter was distracted but attended to us just enough for us to get our food, he was not overly friendly nor helpful with the drink or food menu. Host at door was rude ---- I had made a reservation via Open Table for 6:45pm Saturday. My party of 4 arrived at 6:30pm. There were about 10 patrons waiting to be seated. When I approached the host to let him know we had arrived, he stated "Oh, so you're the group that just popped up on my screen! You weren't supposed to be able to get into Open Table that quickly. I guess I'll go ahead and seat you anyway." Excuse me?! Am I to blame for Open Table software performance?? There was no 'Welcome to Tavern on South", "Glad you're here." I doubt that I will return to Tavern on South very soon. The food just didn't overwhelm me.
We were seated on the covered patio which was bitter cold. They told us they had the heat on but it was 20 degrees outside and maybe 40 inside. It took forever for someone to wait on us. We ordered food which also took an extremely long time and food was cold once we got it. They swiped the other family's bill on our credit card and viceversa. When we talked to the manager about all the issues no apology whatsoever. Never coming back!
We were visiting from out of town. I made our reservations online. When we arrived the hostess started walking up a staircase. I told her that my mom had 3 knee surgeries and asked if we could have a table downstairs. She said they were full. I asked if there was an elevator and she said no. There was no attempt to make any accommodations. We had no choice due to time restrictions, but to stay. My mom had to struggle up the stairs. I was truly disappointed in the lack of accessibility.
We ordered the crab cakes (good, some shell pieces, but still better than too much bread,) and the bison burger (served rare as requested, nice size and delicious.) I enjoyed the house salad that had a nice vinaigrette...and not too much of it. Our waiter recommended a nice local craft brew as well. Our only problem was the waiter adamantly stating that the kitchen would not honor any substitutions on the menu. We are trying to eat low carb, and did not want the French fries or the bun that came with the bison burger. Since we were only asking for a vegetable instead of fries, this seemed absurd. He did come back and stated that they could do a side salad instead of the fries. This was at a cost of an additional $7. So just be aware what no bun and no fries will cost you!
Slow service and wrong orders. Ordered sweet potato fries and got regular, ordered tiramisu after waitress offered and it is not on the menu and want notified until the rest of us were almost done with ours. Pricey for portion size.
Bartender was a little snubbish as well. Like we were inconveniencing her with our order.
Location close to Lucas Oil Stadium makes this a good spot to eat before or after an event. Food is good and you can come as you are. I wish the full menu was available during events at Lucas oOil Stadium, but selection is limited to Game Day menu.
Always our first choice to meet friends before heading to Lucas Oil. Great place!
Got a nice reservation for dinner before the monumental marathon and it was simply outstanding. Service, food, atmosphere was great!!
Garth Brooks concert
Service was slow and got our orders couple of times
My wife and I ate here on a Friday after the sufgestion of a friend. What we found was that it was incredibly overpriced for food that is subpar. Paid ten dollars for a lousy cheeseburger and then found out they charged me two dollars more for french fries. Wife had a crab cake sandwich but only ate half becuase it was more cake than crab and had asparagus on the side which we had to pay extra for again. Nowhere does it mention that the food is a la carte. Their draught beer selection is good, and they do offer deals on certain nights. The ambiance is nice, seems family friendly, but be prepared to pay out a large amount for your family. Place seemed to be hurting for customers as we were there till almost 9 on a Friday night and they were fairly dead for a restaurant.
