Tavern in the Square - Shrewsbury
Nice spot....great service, but please don’t add all the extra salt on the meals! I choose the quinoa bowl for the clean taste of the veggies & the dish. All i could taste was the salt added to the top of my meal. My daughter complained of the same with her steak tips...not necessary! Bad for your health !!!
We arrived at approximately 10:20am for the Sunday Brunch. We were seated right away, and restaurant was fairly quiet with not many customers as yet. We waited quite awhile for a waitress to approach us, although several waitress, and what appeared to be floor managers, walked by us several times and made no acknowledgement of the delay or that someone would be with us soon. When she arrived, our waitress was short on information. I had to ask questions and inquire about the omelet station, and then were asked, "Oh, did you want cards to fill out?" After awhile she brought over the cards, and delivered my coffee, with the requested milk instead of cream. When I put the milk in coffee it curdled and was obviously sour. It took awhile to get someone's attention, she finally approached the table and took away the coffee and sour milk. I don't know why there was such a delay, but after a considerable amount of time a new cup of coffee, with fresh milk, was delivered, with a comment from the waitress that; "it was maybe sour because maybe it was 2% milk, I don't know I don't drink milk". Overall, our dining experience was ok, the omelets arrived hot and very good, and there was a nice variety of buffet choices. Thank you.
Very nice newer location of theirs and perfect outdoor seating. Food was good and standard comfort type typical of most new restaurants. Overall it was a nice lunch and I would certainly recommend going as much nicer than most of the other places in the area.
We really enjoyed our visit. Our waitress was really pleasant and helpful, everything came out correctly and quickly. Some of our dishes weren’t that hot, but we were a large party and it was still really tasty. I will definitely go back, and tell friends to try it too!
We have been to Tavern in the Square a few times before, and those experiences were very good. This time, however, we were very disappointed. First, the quality of service was very poor. The server seated us promptly and asked if we wanted to order drinks. We were waiting for 3 other people, so we asked for water while we waited for our friends. The server quickly brought us water, and later when the other 3 people who joined us arrived, came back to ask if they wanted water, and if we wanted to order an alcoholic drink.
After this, however, the service went down hill. One of our party had a birthday this month and was able to order a free appetizer. we ordered an appetizer, which was delivered by another staff person. After we finished eating our appetizer, the server returned to ask if we wanted to order entries. We selected our entries, but the server never cleared the table of the dirty appetizer dishes or the dishes that contained the appetizer. Our meals were delivered by other staff, and there was a mixup with one of the dishes. One of the people in our party had a gluten allergy, and her gluten free dish was given to another person (who ordered the same dish, but not gluten-free). In addition, one person ordered a dish, but explained to the server that he did not tolerate spicy food, and the server indicated that the dish could be prepared with mild spices. However, when his dish arrived, it was spicy and he had to return the food to be re-made without the spices.
During the entire meal, the server never returned to our table to ask how our food was, whether we wanted anything else, or to ask if we wanted to order dessert.
The final problem was that there was a problem with the bill. The bill totaled $164, and two people in our party each had a $50 gift card. In addition, two parties had the Tavern in the Square card, and both cards had $10 credit. However, when the server totaled out the bill, the amount that we had to pay was $64 -- instead of $44.
Love the outdoor patio
The first chair had salt on it like they wiped the table onto it. I pushed it aside. The air conditioning was not very cool. The table was moving due to poor wheel locks and tipping side to side.
It was very dark inside.
We ate at Tavern in the Square pretheatre. The food was very good and service was prompt and attentive. The background noise was a bit loud and the music was loud, but not surprising given the tavern ambiance. All in all, we enjoyed it and would probably eat at a TotS location again.
Very good food but they marked me as missing my reservation when I was currently eating there. I had also been there 15 min ahead of time.
Our waitress was super friendly and the food/drinks were very delicious !
Pacing of food delivery was a little off. One entree came out with the appetizers at a table for 4.
My favorite restaurant!!!
My husband and I went for Brunch. We were very pleased with the entire experience. We were very surprised when the bill came and realized that the brunch was only 19.99 per person. We have been a lot of places for brunch and hands down this is the best place .
This was a farewell lunch for a departing student. I knew we were in trouble when people complained about the drinking water and iced tea. It got much worse. We waited nearly 30 minutes for our lunches to appear. I ordered the fried chicken and waffle. It was essentially chicken nuggets on a waffle that I could not eat given its cardboard consistency. The maple "syrup" was maple-flavored water. Other people complained about their food as well. Not worth going into detail. We're talking about students complaining about restaurant food! Overall, a bad enough experience that we will not be going back.
They were able to accommodate our large group on Father's Day. Food was good with nice selection for everyone to be happy. A little loud but otherwise great. Good service
We love the atmosphere and the food is always good. Americana but high end. Attention to flavor and presentation is spot on.
Patio space was hrrat
Great brunch birthday celebration. Our server was a lot of fun!
Waited 20 minutes for a server to take our drink order.ordered our food at the same time and it came an hour and 15 minutes later. The manager did come over and speak with us and apologized. He comped our second round of drinks however we didn't go there to spend over an hour and a half for a pizza and tacos. They definitely have staffing issues and are working on it.it will be awhile before or if we return
We brought friends for the first time, and they loved it as we did when we first came last year!
Great location - nice open room off to the side with some views. Very attentive service and a great brunch buffet. Perfect for families - we were celebrating a birthday and had a great time.
Great service good food great atmosphere will certainly go back
Took care of my food allergies and were very attentive. Food was great! Only complaint is we were on the outdoor porch and the noise level was extremely loud.
They did an outstanding job accommodating our foods allergies!
Was my first time in and the food was good. they didnt have the scotch i like which is a common glenfiddich 12 year but i settled for the glenlivet which was ok.......portion sizes were good and well cooked. nice place with a very gastropub feel
First time at the shrewsbury location. Super nice on the inside. Food was great drinks weren't service wasnt that great and it wasn't terribly busy for a Friday night.
The food was tasty as usual and they were good about accommodating my daughter's request. In the past, I have enjoyed their specialty cocktails, the one I had (Bourbon Smash) was more ice than beverage and very weak tasting. I would not order it again and I will rethink shelling out $11 for one of their drinks in the future. Our main complaints were ambiance and service. We asked to sit out on the patio. There were plenty of open tables on the shady side of the patio (and there were clearly not being held for a reservation because there were open ones the entire time we were there). Instead, we were seated on the sunny side which got rather hot and too bright to see anything as the sun was setting. They need to install shades or something to filter the sun or, at least, seat people on the shady side if there are openings. Second, the waiter was inattentive. After the food was delivered, we didn't see him. He showed up at the end of the meal to deliver the check without checking first to see if we needed anything else or wanted dessert. Then, after delivering the check, he disappeared for another 10 minutes -- we finally flagged down the manager to run our credit card so we could leave. This has been one of our go-to restaurants (this one and the one in Northborough) for awhile, but this experience may change our minds on that.
Recently went for the Sunday morning brunch for the first time. It was a great experience!! The food was unbelievable and service was great.
They were constantly replacing items with fresh, warm food. All staff were attentive and pleasant.
Our waitress Merideth was amazing, easily one of the best waitresses we’ve ever had anywhere. She made the brunch even better with her excellent service, great attitude, and friendly demeanor.
Great experience and food. I will definitely go again soon.
Being Mother's Day the restaraunt was quite busy. We were immediately seated and our waitress was attentive and very nice. The food came out in a timely manner and was very good. There were a couple minor glitches but they were taken care of in a prompt manner. Will definitely visit them again.
My favorite part is the variety of Gluten free options!!!
We visited for my daughters graduation. Would have preferred the outdoor seating. But settled for a high table near the bar. Food was excellent with many choices. Wait staff forgot my son”s drink twice and kitchen was backed up. Our apps were delayed and the meal was serviced before the apps were finished. Overall a nice visit and would come back again.
Great meal - accommodating staff-quick and efficient.
It was our first time having Sunday brunch at the tavern. It happened to be Cinco de Mayo so it had a Mexican theme..the variety of choices was endless and most importantly the food was delicious!
We thoroughly enjoyed everything and look forward to going back:)
Double date with my best friends. Overall great time!
The covered patio area is amazing. Loved sitting out there on a perfect spring evening. The food was fantastic as well as the cosmos. Our waiter was right on the ball as well!
Food and service pretty good
Had steak tips asked for medium most were medium well but flavor was very good
Other 4 guests in my party seamed to be happy with food
I was so thankful to have made a reservation, as the restaurant was crowded. We had a great booth and our waiter, Josef, was wonderful. Unfortunately the parking was an issue, which lead to frustration right off the bat. We were meeting another couple there and they had the same issue. When I said something at the desk, the young lady told me about parking down below. I am not sure I would appreciate that in the dead of winter, or if I had a disability. We found the noise level to be extremely high. During construction materials could have been used to buffer the sound. This did not seem to be the case. Lastly, the food was decent, but given the price of the food and especially of the beverages, I don't think we would be returning anytime soon. Overall I am giving a rating of "good", as the establishment was clean and the service was excellent. I was also pleased that our booth was ready and we had no wait time.
Reserved booth online, when got to restaurant (at reserved time) our booth was taken. The hostess was surprised someone had taken our booth so we had to wait for a huge booth to be cleared when there was only two of us. Went for brunch. The food was okay however half of the items were empty when we went (12:30pm) and remained empty for as long as we were there. When we went up for our second helping, we came back to our table being cleared and bussed. The busser told us he was informed we were done even though our phones and keys were still on the table. Our omelettes took over 30 minutes to get to our table and our forms we filled out saying what we wanted was on top of the food. The papers that had been touched by multiple people... gross. We asked for new silverware and the host walked by quickly and tossed a new thing of silverware on our table without making eye contact or saying anything. Very disappointed.
Waiter was not the best. Tried to sell us on a bunch of stuff we didn’t want for apps and deserts after telling him we didn’t want anything. We ended up deciding to get the nachos (with chicken) and when they came out only half of the cheese was melted on one side. Had to send it back. They did fix it however they told us they were a whole “new” batch of nachos they weren’t. One friend had pizza it was good a little chewy but overall good taste and would get it again. Another had a burger and said it was very good. Another had an eggplant sandwich and loved it. I had Mac n cheese it was good but having bleu cheese in it ruined the taste for me. I would recommend this place because it does have good food and I’ve been to other locations. Just be aware there are some definite problems here
