Tavern House is the creation of restaurateurs David Wilhelm and Gregg Solomon who have developed numerous Orange County restaurants over the past 25 years, including Kachina, Bistro 201, Barbacoa, Chat Noir, Diva, Sorrento Grille and French 75. The menu reflects a collection of Chef Wilhelm's popular signature seafood and comfort food dishes. A large centrally located bar drives a vibrant night time scene in what is arguably one of the best view locations in Newport Harbor. It also has fireplace lit, 50 seat private room for banquets.

Food was adequate, but did not live up to the David Wilhelm reputation of excellence. Portions were ample and well-plated. Setting was fabulous, as we were seated at a window booth overlooking the harbor. On a gloomy, rainy day, the view was perfect from our cozy perch.

If you want a great view then this is your place, but don’t go to eat. The food is terrible and the staff though friendly doesn’t seem to care if the food is good or not. This includes the manager. Caesar salad had so much dressing it dripped. Added salmon was raw first go round, the re-fired piece must have been poached and had zero flavor. No one ever checked on me, I had to flag down my server. Unfortunate the food is so bad as the location is fabulous.

We have eaten here several times and each and every time we have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food is wonderfully prepared and creatively displayed on the plates. The choices are also endless and all
seem to be delicious! Ambience is very pleasant and great viewing of the boats in the harbor outside. It's not to noisy until the live music begins, which is so pleasant you don't mind stopping conversation and listening.
All in all I highly recommend Tavern House. Yet another David Wilhelm winner!!!

Our dinners were delicious and service was impeccable. I wish I could remember our server’s name. She was young and blonde! She was great. We live in Atlanta and get out here twice a year. We will definitely return.

Disappointed. Lobster bisque was watery. Main plate came out before starter. Bus boy 3 times tried to hustle our plates away before we were finished while server came by once. The ambience is nice but the noise level is too loud. Some sound attenuation on ceiling might help. View of 3 massive screens with basketball games on a Saturday night affected ambience negatively.

We had a variety of appetizers and then some in the group ordered dinner. All I can say is everything was superb and everyone enjoyed their food and beverage! The meatballs seemed to be a dish everyone enjoyed. A touch of spiciness in the sauce and very tender meat.
Now for the life of me I cannot remembered the Server’s name? My apologies because she was really fantastic , attentive, professional and very outgoing and nice!! Please pass on our sincere thanks for making a very pleasant evening. Will definitely go back!!

The atmosphere and view are on point, but the service was not. I am a very simple eater and asked for grilled salmon with a simple side salad. The waitress basically food-shamed me, loudly stating that she couldn’t accommodate my request. I understand being busy and stressed during lunchtime, but if one is able to add a protein (salmon) to any entree salad, then why couldn’t I just have it grilled with a simple side salad that is also offered (as a side) on the menu? I ended up ordering the Buddha Bowl (tried to get it without corn, but that wasn’t ok either), and just ate the asparagus and squash off the top. 🤷🏻‍♀️ My husband stated that his Cobb salad was “ok to good” and my stepdaughter said the same about her cheeseburger.

We all enjoyed our meals. Our favorite was the coconut shrimp, fried chicken and the Caesar salad. Will definitely go back again. Chef a little heavy handed on the thyme gravy so order it on the side.

Another great meal. We enjoyed the ahi crudo for our appetizer. I had the prime rib dip sandwich and it was a 10! Their chipotle catsup is a real winner and goes well with the fries. My wife ordered the Southwest Cesar and she loved it. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Excellent food but the menu is limited. Might not be a good fit for everyone. Our servers have all be well trained and they have all been very pleasant. Nice view. Appears to be well run by management, and the staff appears to enjoy good comradery. Nice experience.

Beef Stroganoff was extremely tough. Meat was difficult to cut with a knife. The pasta was prepared correctly but beef was too tough.
