Tavern at the Sun Inn
Tavern’s culinary team is led by Billy Gruenewald. He offers a casual tavern-style menu that changes to match what is seasonally available and features some ingredients that would have been available to Bethlehem’s founders. Dinner is served on the Sun Inn’s second floor and light fare and drinks outdoors on the beautiful North Green when the weather permits. Outdoor seating is first come first serve. The Rathskeller Colonial Cellar is open in the late fall and winter for a truly unique experience.
Please note that reservations are guaranteed inside. Outside is first come first serve, but if a table is open you are welcome to choose outside.
Had a good time will go back again. Enjoyed the patio. Would be nice to have more then 2 rocking chairs.
Great service, great food and great atmosphere!
Had our rehearsal dinner here years ago. It is still beautiful and well kept. Tavern menu had something for everyone. Food was delicious and servers we attentive. A true gem in downtown Bethlehem.
Food was a little overcooked. I ordered a burger that was supposed to have pink in the middle, but it was well done. One of the other ladies ordered the pork chop, which was a little too dry and another lady ordered the single burger and it was also too dry. The server could have come around more often.
Unfortunately we didn't get yo sit outside which is the preferable location on a beautiful day. Our waiter was perfect. Martini was also perfect. Food was very good.
Great meal - filet was best I ever had. Seasoned green beans were superb mash potatoes were perfect. I shared with my wife and she was sorry she had not gotten as well. She enjoyed hers as well.
A unique dining experience in a historic setting that provides excellent food at a reasonable price.
enjoyed the colonial atmosphere as well as the food which included some unusual selections; there are, however, stairs to negotiate -- outside stoop maybe 6 steps, inside a full staircase to the 2nd floor; ask nicely and someone will escort you by the service elevator
We had a wonderful time. The food was excellent. I would recommend this place to my friends and will be back.
We had a great time! Loved the old time vibe, service was good and food was great! Will return!
Great experience with my family. Would absolutely go again! We can't say enough about this place!
My wife and I went to dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. There was nice music playing in the background, where we could hear each other talk. The food and service was fantastic!!! Even the drinks were yummy ;)
Nothing like it
Great service and food in an historic house.

Beautiful setting and it seemed if you wanted to sit and socialize with friends, it would be ok. I wish it Was BOYB. We were ready for the bill before we could get the waitress attention. We would have liked to chat over a second glass of wine. I thought my dish would be heavy on veggies, but it was all orzo with very few veggies
This place was awesome! We have been there just for drinks in the afternoon in past visits. The dinner was great. The menu is kept very simple, meaning less entrees so you’re not overwhelmed by choices.
The atmosphere is cozy, but it did feel a little loud because everything seems to echo.
We finished the evening with drinks in the basement bar.
This was such a disappointing experience! We had booked the Sun Tavern through Open Table. When we arrived, they did not have our reservations, which were specifically marked that we were celebrating my husband's birthday. I had long wanted to take him there because of it's historical significance. I should have read the reviews before booking. I was shocked to see that they charge $2 if you want bread and butter!!! The entry way was devoid of character and the hostess could have cared less about our arrival. First we were seated at a two-seat table against a wall near the entry way. I asked to be moved and they sat us at another two-seat table against another wall facing another wall. All the time, there were four tables of four seats available, and another four-seat table had a couple seated there. Although the waiter was attentive, this was a less-than-stellar experience. I would not go back again.
I can’t believe the positive reviews for this place. This was truly one of the worst and most disappointing meals I’ve had. Let’s start with the service. While our waiter was like able enough, but there were two major errors. First, I received the wrong entree. By the time I received the correct one, my wife was half done with her meal. To add insult to injury, we received the wrong check which was TWICE what we had ordered. The waiter was very apologetic for both, but offered no retribution in return. Now, let’s get to the food - which (hard to believe), was worse than the service. My wife got the “Brewmaster Gundie’s Soup,” which tasted like a generic, flavorless bechamel sauce. I got the tomato soup which had a taste and texture like tomato sauce straight from the can. For the main meal, my wife got the chicken roulade...which she stopped eating after a few bites as it looked like the chicken was raw inside. I got the Mac and cheese. The menu said it came with “roasted vegetables,” but what it really was: dry elbow macaroni with frozen peas and carrots - this is something a 10 year old could make. A couple days later, the wife and are were sitting at home eating boxed Mac and cheese...and we both thought it was better than the Tavern at Sun Inn. A total waste of money.
Loved the historical ambiance but was disappointed that the menu was not the same as on the website. They decided to extend the Valentines menu thru the weekend. I will go back and give it another try.
Awsome food not a big selection but it was nice. Asparagus course was amazing pricey but great quality nice lighting for a dinner for 2 good music loved it
We went to Tavern at the Sun Inn for Valentine's Day! The service, food. and price was a perfect balance of elegance and comfort. The historic feel and creative dishes and cocktails make this place a must-go. We'll be back soon. Thank you folks for making it a great night for my wife and me.
It was a limited (Prix Fixe) menu when we dined there for Valentines' Day. Because they were limited to only a few choices, I expected everything to be exceptional... instead some of it was dry and overcooked. Some items (like the salad, soup, steak app, and desert) were very good. However, the main course we had was lobster and crab cakes: the lobster was dry and over cooked, the asparagus was so over done and dry that it was hardly recognizable, the risotto was bland, and the crab cakes were OK but had some shell pieces in it. Overall, we enjoyed to atmosphere and service, and most of the food was acceptable, but if asked whether or not we would recommend it, unfortunately, I would hesitate.
Beautiful place, and the food is outstanding. Ask your server about some of the House “spirits”
We were celebrating our weekly date night and taking advantage of restaurant week pricing! We were quite pleased and will return!
The portions were very small for the price and the steak was over cooked. Our party actually went out for pizza when we left. The building was beautiful, just a disappointing meal.
We ate here for Restaurant week. I was glad we had looked at their menu offering on line, as this was the ONLY menu being served. The salad was crisp, and I enjoyed my mushroom toast. My companion said the brewmasters soup was also flavorful. There was an uncomfortable time lapse between the appetizer and our main meal. Others that had been seated after us were served before us. There was no inquiry as to water refills from our waiter, either. My pork chop was very good and the mashed sweet potatoes nicely done with no lumps. My companion's steak was small, but also cooked to his liking. Dessert was either chocolate something or a carrot cake - we both chose that and found it nice and moist. We would give this place another try so we can sample from their regular menu. I would hope the service would step up a bit for this to earn 5 stars from me.
Nice dining experience. Great Ambiance. Good food. Great service. Will dine here again
Established in 1758, this historic landmark maintains the colonial look and feel. Great food served in a casual atmosphere by friendly attentive staff. Well worth a visit to downtown Bethlehem!
Lovely luncheon at the sun inn today. I’ll be thinking about and attempting to recreate their house cheese soup fir a long time to come.
The building is fabulous and the history is the best. The menu offers fabulous choices. The problem was that we barely finished one course and the next was there. 3 courses 45 minutes. 730 start. Very rushed
Super cute historical tavern with delicious lunch offerings. Attentive but not overbearing service.
Dinner crowd was loud. Table of young ladies next to us were obnoxiously so. I could barely hear my date.
I ordered the burger. It was way over salted and blew away the flavor of everything else (and I’m a saltaholic). For $17 I expected better.
The only good part was the service. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant.
As usual the SI experience was fantastic! Great food, great drinks and great atmosphere. Was quiet enough for all concerned. One of our favorite haunts in the LV and we have been dining out 35-40 weeks a year for 15 years.
Food, service and ambiance were excellent. We were there for New Years Eve dinner and had a great time.
The wings and burger are delicious
Will definitely go again
Went with my sister and nephew for Christmas. It was very cozy, would definitely go again.
Great place for brunch. We had a party of 5 in the group to celebrate my parents wedding anniversary. we had crab cake sandwiches, lobster roll, and the stuffed shrimp. Everything was delicious. The George Washington and the Thomas Jefferson craft beer were also very good. Service was attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the historic interior and they kept the original designs which made it nostalgic.
Food was great but service was too fast. Just finished apps when entrees arrived. Felt rushed. Overall goid. Will go back but be clear on no rush.
