Tavern at the Sun Inn
Tavern’s culinary team is led by Billy Gruenewald. He offers a casual tavern-style menu that changes to match what is seasonally available and features some ingredients that would have been available to Bethlehem’s founders. Dinner is served on the Sun Inn’s second floor and light fare and drinks outdoors on the beautiful North Green when the weather permits. Outdoor seating is first come first serve. The Rathskeller Colonial Cellar is open in the late fall and winter for a truly unique experience.
Please note that reservations are guaranteed inside. Outside is first come first serve, but if a table is open you are welcome to choose outside.
My BF and I had a great time, Such an Awesome place not far from Home. Definitely will be back!
I am not a vegetarian but close to it. Every once in a while I have a steak and I had the Filet at Tavern at the Sun Inn. It was absolutely fabulous. Our server explained the unique cooking technique. The sides of mashed red potatoes and spinach were delicious too. We will be back.
I had an outstanding lobster roll, so I'll be back! My friends and I ate on the patio on a lovely day. Patrick had classic rock playing, and we thought that the music didn't match the theme of the Sun Inn, so we requested "The Four Seasons" by Vivaldi. Patrick accommodated our request! Thank you, Patrick.
Food was excellent, cocktails made with shrub are an acquired taste but really good if you’re into them.
We loved dining at the Sun Inn. The staff was wonderful and accommodating. The food was delicious and it was a wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely be going back in the future!
Quaint, historic, and delicious! House salad had excellent vinaigrette, Lord Baltimore sandwich (crab cake) was topped w/just the right amount of some addicting sauce, and homemade chips were divine. Yummy glass of rose’ -a bit pricey, and continually annoyed that all restaurants call THAT a glass of wine... 1/4-1/3 glass full, but definitely a tasty experience.
We love it here, this time we enjoyed our dinner outside in the courtyard. Service was great! Food was delicious and prepared great!
We visited on a warm Friday summer afternoon @4:30pm, it was quiet. Unfortunately patio was reserved for a private party - but the establishment called me prior to noon to let me know this request would not be able to be fulfilled. I opted to keep the reservation and dine inside. Server was pleasant and helpful answering menu questions. Prompt service. Unique, historic atmosphere. We enjoyed walking about and looking at historic memorabilia on the walls. Lit with natural lighting via windows, but not overly sunny/warm. Nice selection of brews and wines. We ordered light fare/small platters (Governor's Board and Burrata cheese plate). Very tasty and nicely plated. We requested a second toasted baguette with the burrata plate and was pleased to see they didn't charge for this simple request of an extra piece of bread. Some places would have. The bar looked to be small but a pleasant atmosphere. Still curious about other menu items since our lighter fare was very good. Server was attentive and informative. Looking forward to another visit sometime soon!
The food was wonderful and the outside seating was casual and very enjoyable.
I wish there was music in the background that I could actually hear! It was so quiet in there! But we absolutely loved the experience and our waiter was a history whiz! We are still talking about our time there and how great the food is! Thank you for keeping history alive!
Was there for restaurant week. The atmosphere is historic and beautiful. The food was outstanding and service was good. Definitely a restaurant to try and I will go back!
Went for restaurant week UH-MAY-ZING (Amazing) the food was fresh and the service was great the patio seating was beautiful we LOVED it !!! Def going back !!
Restaurant Week was an amazing opportunity to try your food! It was awesome!
Had a good time will go back again. Enjoyed the patio. Would be nice to have more then 2 rocking chairs.
Had our rehearsal dinner here years ago. It is still beautiful and well kept. Tavern menu had something for everyone. Food was delicious and servers we attentive. A true gem in downtown Bethlehem.
Great service, great food and great atmosphere!
Food was a little overcooked. I ordered a burger that was supposed to have pink in the middle, but it was well done. One of the other ladies ordered the pork chop, which was a little too dry and another lady ordered the single burger and it was also too dry. The server could have come around more often.
Unfortunately we didn't get yo sit outside which is the preferable location on a beautiful day. Our waiter was perfect. Martini was also perfect. Food was very good.
Great meal - filet was best I ever had. Seasoned green beans were superb mash potatoes were perfect. I shared with my wife and she was sorry she had not gotten as well. She enjoyed hers as well.
A unique dining experience in a historic setting that provides excellent food at a reasonable price.
enjoyed the colonial atmosphere as well as the food which included some unusual selections; there are, however, stairs to negotiate -- outside stoop maybe 6 steps, inside a full staircase to the 2nd floor; ask nicely and someone will escort you by the service elevator
We had a wonderful time. The food was excellent. I would recommend this place to my friends and will be back.
We had a great time! Loved the old time vibe, service was good and food was great! Will return!
Great experience with my family. Would absolutely go again! We can't say enough about this place!
My wife and I went to dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. There was nice music playing in the background, where we could hear each other talk. The food and service was fantastic!!! Even the drinks were yummy ;)
Nothing like it
Great service and food in an historic house.

Beautiful setting and it seemed if you wanted to sit and socialize with friends, it would be ok. I wish it Was BOYB. We were ready for the bill before we could get the waitress attention. We would have liked to chat over a second glass of wine. I thought my dish would be heavy on veggies, but it was all orzo with very few veggies
This place was awesome! We have been there just for drinks in the afternoon in past visits. The dinner was great. The menu is kept very simple, meaning less entrees so you’re not overwhelmed by choices.
The atmosphere is cozy, but it did feel a little loud because everything seems to echo.
We finished the evening with drinks in the basement bar.
This was such a disappointing experience! We had booked the Sun Tavern through Open Table. When we arrived, they did not have our reservations, which were specifically marked that we were celebrating my husband's birthday. I had long wanted to take him there because of it's historical significance. I should have read the reviews before booking. I was shocked to see that they charge $2 if you want bread and butter!!! The entry way was devoid of character and the hostess could have cared less about our arrival. First we were seated at a two-seat table against a wall near the entry way. I asked to be moved and they sat us at another two-seat table against another wall facing another wall. All the time, there were four tables of four seats available, and another four-seat table had a couple seated there. Although the waiter was attentive, this was a less-than-stellar experience. I would not go back again.
I can’t believe the positive reviews for this place. This was truly one of the worst and most disappointing meals I’ve had. Let’s start with the service. While our waiter was like able enough, but there were two major errors. First, I received the wrong entree. By the time I received the correct one, my wife was half done with her meal. To add insult to injury, we received the wrong check which was TWICE what we had ordered. The waiter was very apologetic for both, but offered no retribution in return. Now, let’s get to the food - which (hard to believe), was worse than the service. My wife got the “Brewmaster Gundie’s Soup,” which tasted like a generic, flavorless bechamel sauce. I got the tomato soup which had a taste and texture like tomato sauce straight from the can. For the main meal, my wife got the chicken roulade...which she stopped eating after a few bites as it looked like the chicken was raw inside. I got the Mac and cheese. The menu said it came with “roasted vegetables,” but what it really was: dry elbow macaroni with frozen peas and carrots - this is something a 10 year old could make. A couple days later, the wife and are were sitting at home eating boxed Mac and cheese...and we both thought it was better than the Tavern at Sun Inn. A total waste of money.
Loved the historical ambiance but was disappointed that the menu was not the same as on the website. They decided to extend the Valentines menu thru the weekend. I will go back and give it another try.
Awsome food not a big selection but it was nice. Asparagus course was amazing pricey but great quality nice lighting for a dinner for 2 good music loved it
We went to Tavern at the Sun Inn for Valentine's Day! The service, food. and price was a perfect balance of elegance and comfort. The historic feel and creative dishes and cocktails make this place a must-go. We'll be back soon. Thank you folks for making it a great night for my wife and me.
It was a limited (Prix Fixe) menu when we dined there for Valentines' Day. Because they were limited to only a few choices, I expected everything to be exceptional... instead some of it was dry and overcooked. Some items (like the salad, soup, steak app, and desert) were very good. However, the main course we had was lobster and crab cakes: the lobster was dry and over cooked, the asparagus was so over done and dry that it was hardly recognizable, the risotto was bland, and the crab cakes were OK but had some shell pieces in it. Overall, we enjoyed to atmosphere and service, and most of the food was acceptable, but if asked whether or not we would recommend it, unfortunately, I would hesitate.
Beautiful place, and the food is outstanding. Ask your server about some of the House “spirits”
We were celebrating our weekly date night and taking advantage of restaurant week pricing! We were quite pleased and will return!
The portions were very small for the price and the steak was over cooked. Our party actually went out for pizza when we left. The building was beautiful, just a disappointing meal.
