Renowned Orange County restaurateur David Wilhelm, along with longtime partner Gregg Solomon, purchased this iconic location in the heart of charming downtown San Juan Capistrano overlooking the Jewel of the California missions.

The menu features many of his signature classic comfort foods such as his Famous Buttermilk Fried Chicken, French 75's Onion Soup, and Whiskey Shrimp Dijon, featured at his Tavern House Kitchen+Bar in Newport Beach.

Chef Wilhelm is a longtime South County resident, well known for the many concepts he has created over the years including Kachina, Sorrento Grille, French 75, Savannah Chophouse and Jimmy's Famous American Tavern.

Tavern at the Mission has a large, tree covered, pet friendly patio with beautiful mission views. The interiors have been beautifully renovated with a chandelier lit dining room and a warm central fireplace. Our' Tumbleweed Bar' is designed as an homage to San Juan Capistrano's Equestrian and Vaqueros history.

We live in San Diego and decided to take a nice drive and spend some time in San Juan Capistrano. I got us reservations at Tavern at the Mission and glad I did. The environment is fantastic. We sat at a really nice bar and Jacob was our bartender/server. He is very polite, prompt and knowledgeable. My wife had the squash blossom/artichoke flat bread & I had the "Knife and Fork" Fish sandwich - both dishes were absolutely stellar. We enjoyed our experience so much that we are now looking into spending our anniversary at The Inn at the Mission across the street so we can enjoy the bar next time! Thanks for a great lunch.

As a last minute reservation, we were very pleased with the speedy service and the very attentive service from Bettie. We ordered salmon, and it was cooked perfectly ! We enjoyed our experience at The Tavern!

It was a good experience, but the patio noise was really loud - primarily because of the performer. It was a shame because it was a beautiful night for sitting outside.

Ok. Food and service were acceptable but not wow. Seabass, the fish of the day, was a overcooked. But the brussel sprouts were great as well as salmon tacos.

Came here to celebrate my moms 88th birthday. The service was great, Betty was awesome! WE ordered flat bread, salads and sandwiches. Everyone was happy with their food. Ambiance is wonderful, we sat outdoors. We all took the train into town as it was a mid point and we walked from the train station to the restaurant.

Chelsea and her team in the bar were exceptional. Enjoyed great Drinks and food. Chairs in bar are comfortable and you can’t beat VIP Tuesday. Can’t wait to go back.
