Great food. All other parts good but not anything amazing or outstanding. Service sent but drinks took 20min and over all "OK" experience
Birthday for my 82nd year old dad. The restaurant remembered that I had written a note in the reservation that he was celebrating a birthday . They brought a Prosecco toast and a dessert with a candle. I was impressed they read the reservation note and made the experience so nice !!
Never disappoints !
The arugula salad was so gorgeous and sumptuous and so enormous that I thought it would be impossible to finish. But it was so good that we couldn’t put our forks down. Our server was so accommodating and pleasant that I can’t say enough nice things about him. All in all: a delightful experience on a beautiful day with a lovely water view.
Always excellent food and kind, unobtrusive service.
Excellent all around. Helpful waiter to guide the choices
We reserved dining room seating and we sat in the bar. When we requested to move we were treated rudely and made to wait to see what could be done. They finally “ found” a table.
The entire staff is so welcoming and pleasant, from the valet to the hostess to the wait staff. Brian, our waiter could not have been nicer! Food was superb, a lovely evening!
The scallops were delicious. However, the Crispy Artichokes were tough and a little over cooked.
I visited the place with my wife to commemorate our anniversary. Food and service were very good. Just didn't like the small space between the tables. The noise level can be annoying at times. If the guests on the table next to you happen to speak loudly it can become difficult to have a conversation.
Great attentive knowledgeable service, terrific food, beautiful atmosphere
Always a lovely experience! Thank you!
This is the third time we’ve been here (one lunch, two dinners), and it’s the third time that it’s taken 30+ minutes between the clearing of our first course and the serving of our second course. The restaurant was only half to maybe 3/4 full, so it was not a situation of the kitchen being overwhelmed. We were told there was a kitchen fire while we were there, which they blamed the 30+ minute wait on this time, but we knew better from our previous wait times (as an aside, kitchen fires usually happen when something is left unattended or dirty, so I’m not sure they should be telling diners that’s the reason their service was delayed, IMO...). Finally, one of the most popular dishes on the menu is fried green tomatoes, and when we went this time, we were informed they were out of them. It’s summertime (tomato season), a specialty of theirs, and a fruit... We were there for an early dinner on a weekend night. Seems like mismanagement that they’d be “out” of that dish. The place is a solid restaurant close to our home, and we’d like to continue patronizing it, but for the prices they charge, they need to start addressing some of these issues. We’ll give it one more shot before relegating it to our “no” list...
Disappointed with 'terrace'. It felt like you were sitting on the side of a house. Much less ambiance on the outside terrace than of the original Silvermine.
This historic property and the area surrounding it are beautiful. The restaurant is classy and contemporary. The food is creative and delicious. The service is spot on. This place has great atmosphere and the staff makes it a memorable experience every time.
We had lunch on the deck which had recently opened, It was a Saturday and quiet, but a beautiful day.
We really enjoyed the excellent food and the beautiful setting.
Consistently one of the top experiences. Ambiance and setting second to none, service and food spectacular, fabulous cocktails.
Great atmosphere, bar was deafening due to a party of 10 and low wood ceiling. All food was delicious with the exception of the halibut which was very over cooked, hard and chewy. 2 in our party left the majority on our plates and were never asked about it.
Servers were extremely nice but sporadic. The Valet pulled the car up to spot which had a large puddle , ran back to the front door, and the driver had to leap over the puddle to get into the car.
We will be back but hope these comments are considered.
The design details were impeccable but service and small details count as well.
Son home from college
Solid..William makes a Great Irish Coffee
Outstanding. A gem! Halibut was superb, we went 2x in the same week... and may go again. The sides and extras are wonderful, wines by class perfect. Dessert list brief, but tasty.
The Tavern is a fantastic casual/elegant restaurant with lots of light and great food. It will put a smile on your face for the thoughtful architectural touches and the innovative food. Presentations are lovely but not too lovely; not too self-conscious of their style. This is a great place for a special lunch or dinner. It is not inexpensive, but it is worth it.
It was our second visit this year. The food is amazing, the cocktails are creative and tasty, and we love the ambience. Tonight, the service, while friendly, it was a bit off. It would have been better if the server suggested ordering vegetables for the t-bone. Also I was finished with my cocktail when the entree arrived. We had to chase her down for a glass of wine. Waiting for the vegetables and wine, the steak got cold. Disappointing that timing of the perfect meal was completely off track. We plan to return but now know that we may need to more proactive about the service.
this place is one of the very best in Fairfield county - so go
We enjoyed everything about our actual dining experience (server was great, food delish and ambiance was lovely)! The only thing negative we had to say was the the hostess was curt and rude when we walked in.
The food was fantastic and the only reason I gave it one less star is we had an artichoke appetizer that was a little tough and we also had the creme brûlée for dessert and it was little too warm. The other items we ordered absolutely made up for it.
The Tavern is in a lovely setting overlooking gardens and a bubbling fountain. The dining space has been totally redone by new owners from its former incarnation. Everything is crisp whites, gray walls and natural woods. It is quite attractive and immaculate. The staff was very helpful and attentive. The lunch pricing was excellent in comparison to comparable establishments in other parts of Connecticut.
There were eight in our party, yet five of us ordered the same dish (lobster club sandwich), two ordered another dish and one ordered something different. We all thoroughly enjoyed our dishes, but I question whether there should be additional lunch entree options since the majority of us gravitated to the same dish. I will definitely return to try the dinner menu as well. The experience was very pleasing overall.
Everything was delicious. Cocktails were great. The restaurant is beautiful. The only complaint I have is that there was a very, very loud group seated nearby. However, It would not deter me from going back.
Excellent ambience, service but food absolutely delicious!
This place has such a gorgeous atmosphere! Not only that, but the food was sublime. I went for a special occasion but I'd like it to be an everyday dining thing :)
A lovely New England restaurant overlooking the meandering Silvermine River. Restaurant interior is all wood and has a comfortable feel. Food is excellent...prices are high though.
Great place! Fascinating and charming. When ordering, stick with the things you can visualize and understand. Great food with a very nice presentation, but some entrees need a little work to achieve acceptability to all pallets. The menu is not as loaded as most restaurants, but the offerings are from a talented chef and kitchen staff.
Great restaurant, beautiful decor, great food and service
Happy to report that the food and service were quite good, the setting tranquil overlooking the pond.
Terrific Appetizer of Fried Green Tomatoes with Smoked Trout. Delicious scallops.
Nice wine list.
Very beautiful place. A Special occasion restaurant for sure.
I had a slight problem with my entree and they took care of it immediately.
Love this place! The fried artichoke appetizer was delicious.
Always wonderful. Service and food.
A couple of dishes were a bit salty. The waiter was phenomenal!
This was our first visit to GrayBarns. It was an extremely busy evening. The bar drink menu was innovative and fresh. The drinks did not disappoint. Once seated, the magic begins. Our appetizers and entrees were spectacular. Service was attentive . The Duck à l’Orange is probably the best I have ever had. The ambiance is pleasant. Everything was timed perfectly. The after dinner drinks were also terrific, notably, Strange Brew.
Beautiful interior but poor service. My son ordered American cheese on his burger, wait staff failed to mention that is not an option. When the burger came, theyvtold him to remove the cheddarvthat he didn’t order! Father-in law ordered his burger with fries and it came with a salad. They promised fries, which never came, and then charged us anyway. Very disappointing.
