For our 3rd visit we opted for a table in the bar; all of the bar tables run along the windows with gorgeous views of the Silvermine River. This, the outstanding service from valet, front of house, & our waitress Christina and the cocktails were the “pros” of our evening.
Unfortunately there were significant cons, and please note that I rarely write negative reviews.
The busboy had dirty fingernails. The $32 lobster tail app was literally the size of a large shrimp. The hummus that accompanied the crudite was bland. My swordfish was a very skinny slice of fish, unlike any swordfish entree I have ever seen.
This is a very spendy place; even though there is much to recommend (and previous visits were terrific), if I can’t assume every dish is a great choice, I’m not inclined to take another chance.
Upscale test casual environment with wonderful food and service.
Terrific venue, menu and service. Can’t wait to go back.
The only reservation we could get was at 8:45pm "in the bar", which turned out to be great anyway! Although it's definitely a little louder, the bar tables have an amazing view of the river and landscaping. Our service was excellent from start to finish - from the valet to a server change toward desert, due to shift change. Our food was incredible; four of us shared a series of small and large plates including: oysters, lobster (only thing that was "underwhelming"), fried green tomato, lasagna (absolutely do not miss!), veal ribs (delicious), asparagus (perfect), and T-bone steak (wonderful finish). We had two bottles of one of their wines on the "by the glass" list, which was great value. All in, we agreed it was our best dining experience in Fairfield County in the past 2-3 years.
The restaurant is lovely and the food was quite good (*though not worthy of the price tag). The rooms are all so loud that that our wait staff could not hear us properly and we had a hard time conversing with each other. This is a big deterrent and should be addressed.
Great food and friendly service, but painfully loud.
The ambience is amazing! The bar, tables, overviewing the river....everything is great! The food is unbelievable too!!!
While the restaurant is beautiful I was disappointed in the food quality especially for the very high prices. The waiter recommended the artichoke appetizer which was tough and over charred . My pasta
was a very small serving for $32. It was good but nothing special. The wine list is very highly priced. Too many great restaurants in the area to not have fabulous food at fair prices.
Love this place!. Beautiful setting, atmosphere chic and service very good. Bar area is the best !
The restaurant if lovely. The service was fairly slow and the salmon was overcooked and mediocre. I had had salmon 4 days earlier at a bridal shower at the Winged Foot Golf Club where the salmon was outstanding. This could not compare. Very disappointing
Had a small table for (4) but for a group gathering I think a table at a sofa for (6) is more special and festive
Food and service was fabulous. Our server, Sean was attentive and explained items with accuracy and enthusiasm. The only reason I can't give 5 stars and somewhat low balled the value, was the price tag. While we each had 2 drinks, we did not order a bottle of wine, yet dinner was over $230 for 2. Would eat there again, but not a place we could be regulars at.
Outstanding restaurant, creative menu in a beautiful atmosphere.
Delicious food -terrible service tonight! Been here before and have had great food and service but that wasn’t the case tonight!
One of the best brunches in Fairfield County....swordfish sandwich, big salad and of course the bacon....awesome
my wife was sick after eating the Lobster and I found the eggs benedict not very appealing and the bread underneath very tough. Very disappointing overall.
We had been patrons of the Silvermine Restaurant for years, and often drove the fifty miles up from Manhattan for Sunday Brunch. When we learned that the Silvermine had reopened as GrayBarns after years of being closed, we knew that we had to revisit.
We found that the old Silvermine had been renovated and much reduced in size. The renovations were nicely done, and captured most of the feeling of the older place, but our biggest disappointment was the fact that the buffet no longer exists.
To our delight the food was wonderful, and memorable! We will return to dine again, but still wish that we could enjoy the famous buffet. I'm guessing that the new GrayBarns is aiming at a different, more affluent less family oriented clientele.
Had a great experience at the Tavern for my husband’s birthday. The service was truly excellent and attentive, from the valet to the hosts to our server and busing staff and even the chef who surprised us with a few mid course plates. The food was some of the best I’ve had in the region. A special shout out to the ricota gnudi with lobster diavolo. Wow, the best dish I’ve had in a long time. And really, the ambience can’t be beat! This is definitely my new go to place for special dinners.
Top rate, acoustics just a little iffy or at least it was difficult to be heard where we were sitting
Rainy night. Drinks at the bar, extremely friendly service . Dinner was outstanding our server recommended wine and main course. Can’t wait until we return.
Cocktails and apps were delish! However main coarse was just ehh. Probably would of preferred to order a few apps vs main. Will try again cause location was beautiful and service was very helpful.
Lovely idyllic location in artfully updated antique. Food and service great. Menu a bit limited and upper tier pricing. Salad big enough to serve four!
Great for special occasion.
We have been to the Tavern 3-4 times, mainly because it's been beautifully renovated and is now a lovely setting. The food, however, has been consistently disappointing. They are charging New York prices but without the quality to match.
We love Tavern at Graybarns and have come for dinner in multiple occasions in the past year. Therefore we were very
Rustic elegant restaurant set in a beautiful area. Seasonal ingredients, lots of choices on the menu, deliciously prepared. Service was spot on.
Amazing from start to finish!
Just moved out from NYC and really missing the restaurant scene, but this was an easy addition to the “go to” list 😊
I recommend seeing for yourself. Few would be disappointed. Being new to the area and having experienced dining in major metropolitan cities, The Tavern at GreyBarns is a wonderful restaurant. The food and service are high quality and the setting is comfortable and relaxed.
One caveat to mention, we went on a Tuesday for an anniversary dinner, so there may be more of a crowd on later in the week.
Very beautiful location on the Silvermine River. Lobster Club sandwich was excellent. A wonderful experience!
The drinks are delicious but the food was lacking. The duck which is usually served crispy was wiggly. The pasta was flavorless. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Did the chef quit?
Amazing service and food. Great atmosphere
You can always count on a great meal and terrific service at GrayBarns!
The executive chef is not there on Monday nights. Duck was dry, we poured our own wine, bread is good,
Ambiance great, excellent food and drink selection.
Every dish was sensationally simple yet unique and I did not want my meal to end..... very nice staff in an elegant environment
The restaurant offers the perfect combination of ambience, top quality food and outstanding service. There is an energy here that is welcoming and the clientele is representative of a great cross section of people, adding to the dynamic of the atmosphere. The staff is attentive but never over reaching . The menu choices are excellent, clearly focusing what the kitchen does extraordinarily well. GrayBarns offers quality and the value proposition is well balanced.
Great revival of a historic property. Dinner has been fabulous since opened / so glad now serving lunch. Menu should / probably will evolve - PLEASE put some tuna on menu .. Thx!
Great ambiance, delicious food, on the pricey side.
