A friend and I had a late dinner at Tavern and Grocery this past Saturday night. We had to change our reservation last minute and they were able to give us a new reservation without any problem. We sat outside on their front patio (sidewalk). It was a thoroughly enjoyable dinner.
The host was great and our server couldn't have been more accommodating. I had scallops - they were broiled perfectly and were sweet and delectable. My friend had a sirloin strip that he said was perfectly cooked and tender.
While the food was delicious, the staff at Tavern and Grocery are what makes this such a special place to dine. I couldn't have been more pleased with the service I received there. I can't wait to return.
I totally enjoyed the lovely restaurant. Music was playing, service was attentive but not overbearing. Wine selections was great I tried a glass of a terrific local sparkling wine and a red from Portugal from recommendations from the bartender. Both were terrific. If I lived in Virginia I would be back.
The Duck Ramen is my favorite...also a great wine list!!!
Great atmosphere, outstanding service and very good food at reasonable prices. Don’t skip this one next time you’re in downtown Charlottesville.
For an almost $400 dinner, the service was slow and was confusing as to who our waiter was & the food was only ok. The duck was inconsistent for the 4 people eating it. Two portions were barely edible. Two were great. Not an acceptable ratio. The desserts that were very tasty were little bigger than a postage stamp.
Amazing food and service! Full menu, very happy
Absolutely amazing. Great service, great food options. Came in late, really wanted the chicken & waffles, but it was sold out. The waffles with berries were extremely good, not to mention to scramble eggs I had on the side. Absolutely delicious. Food came quick and the mimosas were very good. Really enjoyed brunch.
Odd. There was nobody in the restaurant, and the host seated me on the back patio in a strange setting
Great food, service and ambiance . Next time in Charlottesville, will go again.
We had.a wonderful dinner while in Charlottesville. The food was outstanding. The tuna appetizer is a must try and the scollops with succotash entree was amazing. Everyone in our party loved their meal.
And love sweet Ashley the owner who remembered us from our last visit one year ago!
A great dinner choice!!
Great approach to reopening, with good social distancing and sanitization. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Food was delicious and creative.
Did an amazing job considering the circumstances. Dinner and dessert were fabulous. One steak was a bit over-cooked is the only flaw worth noting.
We loved the ambiance of Tavern & Grocery. The wine list is epic, and my steak was cooled to perfection. We will definitely be back.
Not on par with other downtown C Ville restaurants at the same price point. Server made us feel rushed, tried to balance our table (after was asked twice) but then he spilled our drinks when he did it it in a rush and too much force, and the food was meh. Drinks were meh too. We walked down the street after dinner to eat a much better dessert and fries at Brasserie.
Service was outstanding. We reserved an out side table, but it looked like rain so they set us up downstairs at the bar - What an amazing atmosphere - great place and great service
We felt very comfortable during our visit in spite of the pandemic, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff was respectful in wearing masks and gloves, and were friendly and accommodating.
Food was great. Host was terrific. Service was a little spotty but they made up for and that goes a long way. Cute place to grab a great meal esp if you can sit in the back patio.
Wait staff excellent. Very professional! We enjoyed our brunch experience.
The food was craftily prepared, and was delicious. I had the scallops were sublime. My husband had the paperdale(? sp). The peach cobbler was so good.
Really bad service, both inattentive and indifferent. Food was decent but not worth the price. Would not recommend
Seating in windowless cavern downstairs with legs dangling from barstool chairs.... right in front of restrooms... waiter forgot about us. Admitted he forgot about us then forgot about us again. He served a side order of fries as an appetizer for all and my salad was earful. After 1 1/2 hours we still hadn’t gotten our entrees we asked for to go boxes and the check. Our order arrived. Asked again for to go boxes. Dropped $100 for nothing. Got home and the fish was aweful and they forgot one entree.
Our dinner was wonderful. The server was very kind and attentive. Our food was amazing. We had strip steak which was cooked perfectly and seafood stew as well as a burrata salad & gazpacho with melon and almonds.
I loved the ambiance as well.
Would definitely go back
We had a party of six and five of us had the mushroom risotto. It was delicious and fast. Our server was wonderful and attentive.
I love the historic charm. Delicious food
Just terrible. We had three different waiters. Food order was screwed up and he prices do not justify the quality of the food. My boyfriend also got sick from the seafood dish.
Risotto was starchy and not edible. When the hostess picked it up, still a full plate she didn’t even inquire what the issue was.
Brought it up to server’s attention and he was kind, apologetic and took it off the bill.
Birthday brunch for my Wahoo friend. Attentive service, socially conscientious seating, low noise level made for easy conversation, carefully, well prepared cuisine.
Saw they were open, so decided to give them a try even though we had been going to the same place that stayed open throughout the pandemic.
Made a reservation for outdoor seating for Noon on Sunday.
Showed up at the same time as a walk in couple who asked the waitress for and outdoor table. They were getting settled -- leaving only one table left, which was in the shade as we wanted.
As we were approaching hostess, walk ins said "oh, there is a table in the shade" and got up to move. We informed them we were waiting for the table and had made a Reservation. They said "we were here first" and proceeded to move. We reminded them we had made a Reservation, and pointed this out to the hostess as well, but she just shrugged
These diners were clearly of the age to remember the Seinfeld bit about what a Reservation actually means, but they were unfazed. So much for the wave of Kindness allegedly sweeping our society post-pandemic -- they were keeping what they got, regardless of decorum and Reservations
Hostess was too young and clueless to stand up to rude patrons
So we went back to Farm Bell Kitchen and kept up our 15 week streak of Sunday brunch there. You can bet Tavern & Grocery wont be the place we choose to end the streak
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Highly recommend!!
The Pork belly and grits was a great choice. Something different and delicious. Really enjoyed the Sunday brunch. The staff did a great job making us feel comfortable with all the restrictions in place.
We were seated in the dark basement; service was slow; and the food was overpriced.
Food was delicious. Service was great! Highly recommend
Billy our waiter was great! Super personable and knowledge about the history of the building. Took us upstairs to show us around. Food was delicious! Wine perfect!
Great Father’s Day brunch. Great food and service in an interesting space. We’ll definitely go back.
Very nice staff, but don’t go there for a special occasion, like an anniversary. Food was bland and my risotto was just starchy rice with a little flavor. Maybe they had an off night.
Salad Lyonnaise is delightful and decadent. Magret Duck Breast is amazing!!! Lovely wine list! save room for dessert... peach cobbler❤️
Great food, great cocktails, cool industrial vibe, friendly staff, and COVID safe.
The food was fantastic, the service friendly, the bathrooms were clean, and everything came out in a timely manner! Food, of course, being the most important thing, I was impressed with how fresh the fish was and tasted! It was a charming experience! 10/10 would go there more often if I could afford it frequently!
Phenomenal food, great service, and wonderful atmosphere!
Great historic ambiance playing enjoyable folk music. The food was interesting and delicious.
