Great place to go for a night out or sports game!
I have never had such horrible service in a restaurant. Our waitress barely paid attention to our table. We waited almost 30 minutes between getting our drinks and when she came back to take the rest of our order. There were maybe 8 other tables in the restaurant so it was NOT busy at all. When we received our food, my 10 year old daughter noted the man who brought the food paid more attention to us in that 30 second interaction than the waitress did the entire time we were there. Very unfortunate - we were hoping to find a fun new place to go for dinner!!
We were surprised at how good Tavern Allston's food was...everything was well liked by our group of 5, from the Mac & Cheese to the pulled pork. It was a slow time of day so hard to say what the service would be like when they're busy, but it was very good on our visit. While I'm sure the perception is that this is "bar food," it's actually much better than that. Don't shy away.
Great food, quiet time to go, we went at 12:15. Got put in the back, kind of dark lighting.
The wait staff service can be hit or miss, especially if it’s crowded. However, Tuesday night trivia with Julianna is the best!!! Highly recommend!! We have done stump trivia other places and no one is as good as she.
Our waitress was incredible. She was so attentive, hard working and cheerful!
Our hostess was phenomenal- honest and sweet and informative and attentive. After that, things got a little sketchy. We ordered the guac and chips- chips were stale and the guac was such a teeny tiny little amount I asked if there was even guac in the bowl! My meal was GREAT- quinoa Buddha bowl and I added grilled chicken. My friend got the ahi tuna steak, and sadly it smelled so fishy and the color of it was sickly. She had to send it back and ended up with the same meal as me. Again, our hostess was so gracious and understanding and not in the least upset or offput by the tuna being sent back.
My family was at Tavern Allston to celebrate my nieces birthday. We came for their wonderful brunch we were so disappointed that they didn't have it anymore. The new menu was good and inventive but not the brunch we were so looking forward to. Our server Nicole was a gem. She is a keeper.
Excellent apps, great burgers, stick to those. Excellent service.
The food was tasty and the atmosphere was fun. Our server was bothered with any request, forgot things we ordered, and it felt like we forced our teenager to work. Not racing back there any time soon.
Thanks Madison, great service to match the food and drink.
Surprisingly tasty food. Good beer selection. The fig pizza was really good but super soggy. Thats my only complaint.
We went on a Saturday night. We were seated right away, it was early so It wasn't busy. I order the Cuban (pork was very dry). Son order Chicken Sandwich, Chickens was tough. My husband got the Sirloin Tips, they were good. Drinks very expensive.
Food was good, but when we asked the waiter if they could add broccoli to an omelet for the Sunday brunch, they ended up sending bacon instead of broccoli twice and then they were out of since and added nothing, and we found ham in the last one.
Cross contamination is a real concern here, if you have allergies or deitary restrictions I WOULD NOT recommend.
The meal was refunded to us, because of the constant mistakes. If I hadn't asked, I'm not sure that they would have gone out of their way to do anything about it though...
Service very slow. They brought only my entree PRIOR to bringing the appetizers we ordered. Why would I eat only my dinner among the group is beyond me. The nachos were not even warm under the top layer - cheese was still flaky and not melted and didn’t even live up to expectations. The chicken app was very good in contrast. My husbands dinner was cold. Lacking in service.
We waited at our table for 10+ minutes. I asked the host if she could let our server know we had arrived and it took another 5+ minutes until our server actually came over. She definitely put in extra effort however I was a bit disappointed in how the situation was handled.
Good food, great service. Gluten-free options including beer!
Truly horrible food. Like a bad Vegas buffet brought to Boston. Also don’t get there right when they open - table at which we sat was 58*. Turn on the Heat!!
Staff unprofessional...unfriendly..unaccomodating! Restaurant had a musty, dusty smell...needs a full top to bottom cleaning....will not return..
This Tavern had the worst bathrooms, they were dirty and freezing cold. I'm a regular Tavern customer at other locations, I won't return to this one.
Came here for the Super Bowl and was able to reserve seating. The staff kept the isles mostly clear and the food/drinks were delivered quickly.
Loved the buffet! Also delicious Apple Cider Mimosas!
We were there to watch two football games, Pats vs Bills and Vikings vs Falcons. Max and the team treated us great. Food was excellent too.
Football date. As always, lots of fun.
Watched Pats vs Saints for me and Bills vsPanthers for my wife. Had a lot of fun. Pats won. Bills, not so much.
Good food, although a bit on the pricier side.
Great service and delicious meal!
this was our first try to a Tavern in the Square. While the server was friendly and attentive, we had to ask for our water to be filled more than once, and the food was a disappointment.
My wife got the eggplant sandwich, and didn't eat it because it was inedible. The eggplant was cut so thick that it was soggy and cold. The fried pickles were tasty - but smushed into a serving vessel that caused the ones on the bottom to be soggy and broken up.
very good experience except the beverage service was very slow
We had 12 of us in our own section of tables which was great for mingling and staff was great
Only complaint was took quite a long time for drinks and it wasn't that busy when we arrived at 5:15 that we were surprised that the bartender moved at turtle pace
best burger ever!
Perfect location, across the street from Brighton Music Hall. Great place to dine before the show!
Great service, but I was disappointed by the mozzarella & pesto pizza which was smothered in olive oil and had a super soggy crust. We told our waiter it was pretty awful and he was great about it. Said they've recently introduced new menu items and they welcome the feedback. He took it off my bill and I ordered a burger, which was great. One person in our group has celiac disease (no gluten) and the waiter was very knowledgable and her orders were delivered by managers (presumably meaning they ensured it was handled correctly). She has eaten here before and had no problems! Love the fact that they have a dedicated GF fryer!
Overall good portions, friendly staff, varied menu. Service was a little slow. Drinks were ok.
Good Sunday Brunch. Nothing fancy, but reasonably priced
The Mac n Cheese with added buffalo chicken will change your life! Amazing!
Great atmosphere for a game
Nice neighborhood spot. Spacious place. Plenty of bar area seating and standing. Separate dining area as well. Place appears to be a lot of fun for various sporting events. Big menu, between food, beers on draft, and other drinks. Server was good. Food was very good. Only issue was that food took little long to come out from kitchen. Wasn't overly crowded. Most of people there were at bar, so no sure I understand why things took as long. Will likely go back.
Awesome food on their massive Sunday brunch. The service was slow though and we had to walk up to the bar for drinks. Aside from that I would absolutely go again
