Taste, Wood-Fired Kitchen
Taste’s menu was created for sharing and is perfect as a family-style dinner with hearty portions and incredibly diverse choices. Guests may enjoy one of Nicewonder Vineyards’ award-winning wines as a tasting flight accompanying dinner, or while relaxing at the hand-crafted zinc bar.
Great for year-round dining, regardless of the weather. When it is warm, the sides go up to enjoy fresh open-air dining, when it gets cold, the sides are down and the heaters keep you warm and toasty.

Travis and team do a great job. Tremendous setting too.
Food was amazing. Of course did not expect anything but good from Travis Milton.
Daughter received an honorary certificate in medical school.
Always delicious, always totally satisfying! Will return again and again.
I don’t have anything negative to say but I do want to offer my constructive experience. It felt more like a bar/gastro pub than it did a venue incorporating wines from the vineyard with a boutique inn. which is unfortunate because the wine is fantastic and I personally like a little more upscale atmosphere when I enjoy wine! The atmosphere was very country with the theme of a barn and waitresses were dressed in blue jeans and less than casual. The food was absolutely fantastic however for just my husband and the cost was for $145. Don’t have a problem paying that amount however for $145 for a late lunch I detest being served with plastic forks and Dixie paper plates! Not appealing in the least! Oddly some items were served with actual silverware as well as glasses of water, so not sure the reason for the plastic utensils. Also not sure why reservations need to be made as the venue was clearly well staffed and it was only my husband and I the first 30 min, and by the hour only 2 more tables were occupied. I just think for the price and the quality food that the atmosphere could be a bit more luxurious /upscale /business casual. I did not realize until the time visiting that the chef used to be at the Western front in St. Paul where we ate a couple of times. That was a very nice venue however I assume it did not last due to the targeted population not appreciating such an atmosphere or quality menu ( more country beer consuming clients?). Again just want to share my honest experience but I will be returning and I am actually excited to revisit as the weather gets warmer!
Incredible food and service.
Food was very good although felt like crab cakes portion size could have been less and some what lower in price .We both felt that the wine was good but not great and pour for wine was very conservative. Also wine was overpriced at $14-16 per glass .
Amazing, creative dishes. The service was great and we enjoyed everything about the experience, including the wine and cocktails. Will definitely be back.
Absolutely divine!!! We will be back! The mussels served in a delish broth!! The crab cakes full of fresh lump crab meat!! Left full and happy! Wine was perfect too! Yum!
My only complaint is that the wine portion was entirely too small! I ordered a glass of wine and it did not even fill up half of the glass! I just think that there could be a little bit more there for the customer who is paying for it. Other than that everything was very good, I just wouldn’t want to order a glass of wine again if it’s going to cost what it does and be less than half full
Delicious options that were easily shared between 2 people.
Very difficult to locate the restaurant. Once the construction is complete, I am sure it will be easier to navigate. The restaurant is an appealing open air restaurant. Nice bar area. The menu was limited and not all that appealing. Almost no vegetarian or vegan choices. The pimento cheese was good, but it was served on a paper plate with some ritz crackers tossed on the plate. The wood fired pizza lacked taste. It was also served on a paper plate. The mixed drink was delicious, as was the wine. Our server was very attentive. I suggest including some basic items on the menu for people who aren't very adventurous. Also increasing the choice for vegetarians and vegans.
Consistently good food and service. One area of needed improvement is the disposable utensils and paper plates need to go away. This restaurant is way too good for that.
Excellent. Service superb by Leah. Mixed drinks were excellent.
Fantastic new venue, cant wait to do it again!!!!
the menu is unique, the ambience is cool, the staff is friendly, and the food is delicious
Our party was a little surprised that we were eating off paper plates, although this current venue is outdoorsy. The food was very good. Each one in our party had a glass of wine and, frankly, I was a little shocked at the price of the wine ($13 -16/glass). The prices, prior to ordering, were only available via a QRC code, which I tried and was unsuccessful in calling up. I did not ask prior to ordering and shame on me. I expected maybe $7-8 especially since we were sitting on the winery property. The other surprise we had was a service fee which did not include the tip, over $13. There is a new hotel being built on this winery/property and this restaurant will have a venue within. After spending $100 for a meal for two in this outdoor venue, I will need to check out what the cost will be in the new restaurant. I would definitely recommend the food but I will caution friends of the cost.
Was a great venue for a romantic dinner with my wife. Staff was friendly and did not hover. Food was good to excellent. I will recommend Taste. We will be back this spring when the patio is open.
The place had a nice and relaxing atmosphere. Food was tasty. Had the New Orleans BBQ Chicken thighs, baked oysters and the smoked trout dip. Wine was a little pricey at $37-50 a bottle. A warning, when receiving the bill we noticed an 18% service charge advising that this was not a
Tip but a fair wage adjustment added to the bill. And they advised to leave an additional tip if we choose to. For this reason and no other we will not be coming here again. If the owner thinks his employees should receive more than what he’s paying them let him make that adjustment. We would have left a 20% tip for the exceptional service but because of the service charge we left nothing. If businesses are doing this in Virginia we will not be going out to that state often to dine.
Taste never disappoints! Steamed mussels, Roasted sausages, Cobb salad and essentially everything else on the menu is a must-try. Oh, one more thing, don't pass on the Shakshuka, it's mouthwatering!
Lindsay, our bar tender / server was fantastic. Made our brunch.
Wanted to love it, but willing to try again! We got an appetizer and it was pretty good - it was like a bruschetta with tomatoes and bread with an egg on top. My husband got a sandwich with pickles and a dijon mustard and all it tasted like was mustard! Very overpowering... and it didn't come with a side, just a bag of chips. I got the crab cakes and they were just okay. Very meaty but almost cold in the middle like the batter was made previously and they'd barely been fried. I ordered two glasses of wine and it was pretty good, only wish they offered wine other than theirs. The total bill was over $100 dollars - a complete shock to us when we were served on Dixie paper plates and plastic silverware!! It must have been the wine that was so expensive and the pour is so tiny I didn't have the slightest buzz after two glasses (I've heard others who visited complain about size/price of wine). Our waitress was super fun and nice. We'd love to try again in the summer since the environment is so unique. I don't get what's so special - maybe we just ordered the wrong things! Also to note: Address on Google is wrong. We got lost and ended up at a barn somewhere and had to call to get directions. Not the restaurants fault but another frustration!
A little hard to find but they were very nice when i called to get directions since GPS took me to the wrong area. Service and food were both excellent and there is a wide variety of items and price points on the menu. I split the steak for two with my 12 year old and both my husband and 14 year old had sandwiches. We all sampled each other’s dishes and I was all delicious. The wine flight and the pecan wheels were my favorite. I can’t wait to go back and it’s so nice to have a place like this in our area.
We love celebrating our special events there! Food is always spectacular AND the service is wonderful! The experience of going always creates wonderful memories for us.
We had dinner with friends this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the venue, the service, and the food. At this time they had a small selection of their wines. The steak for two is to die for, but so were the two large crab cakes and their oysters. FYI, It was hard to find this place. Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Waze do not have an accurate location.
A new local favorite. Innovative and ever changing menu. Service is spot on.
I love the ambience/5. Fantastic waitstaff and variety of items on the menu. This was our first time there, but we will definitely be back soon.
New Year’s Eve...!!!
I am a huge fan of chef Travis Milton! His food is amazing and I am mesmerized by his talent!
Amazing meal! The 20teens special menu is excellent..... bone marrow so tasty!
The food and cocktails where well prepared and beautifully presented.
First time visitor. Having known the Nicewonders since they lived in Lowry Hills as we now do, we were interested to see the place. Interesting layout and the food was very good although a little pricey. The "service charge", plus an expected tip added 30% to the bill so that wasn't pleasant.
And although it was acknowledged when we arrived, because I had placed it on the reservation, that it was my wife's birthday, absolutely no other acknowledgement thereafter. Little disappointing as this location was picked solely to try a new location for the special occasion.
I would recommend it though as it is a different type of eatery.
