Taste on Melrose Ratings and Reviews
We went utilizing the 'Dine LA' pricing though, have eaten here often. The food was exceptional and the price, at $20 per head, was a steal. Superb Risotto and Ceasar Kale/Shrimp Salad, Buratta, Calamari, etc. Perfectly, perfectly executed, EACH dish. Bravo 'TASTE'...!
I’ve been coming to Taste on Melrose for years and have never been disappointed. Yesterday had lunch with a friend and we loved our meals. We shared the Prix Fixe special for Dine LA Week which meant we had two appetizers and two entrees. It was all yummy and the price was very responsible. Sat in the garden and that was super.
Enjoyed meeting friends here for dinner. They've expanded the space much more on the inside so dont be fooled by what you see at the entrance! They have a nice outdoor courtyard area which is here we were seated. They had a DineLA offer and their regular menu - everything was great. Good value for money, quality service and comfy ambiance.
I’ve been to taste a few times and normally everything is excellent. My last time there was just okay - food was good, but service was kind of slow. I had lipstick that wasn’t mine on my glass which kinda grossed me out. I had notes on my reservation we were at taste for a special occasion ( promotion) there was no candle on the dessert we ordered. So my experience was sub-par.
Taste on Melrose was so friendly and kind to us, and made our birthday brunch for our friend a wonderful experience! They had our table ready when we arrived on time. The food came out quite quickly and was delicious. What made everything special was how attentive the server and manager were to our celebration. The birthday girl got a card, a delicious slice of pie and a gift card! We had such as good experience, it completely made our 1.5 hour drive to Los Angeles worth it!
I came for the Dine LA tasting menu. For the first course, I ate the burrata and persimmon salad, which was light but still full of flavor. My entree was the riced cauliflower risotto. It was a tad rich, but that was evened out with the vegetables in the dish. I had looked at the menu online prior to coming, and mushrooms had been listed in the ingredients of the dish. They were, however, not on the menu in the restaurant so I checked with the server. He confirmed that there were no mushrooms in the dish. The risotto did unfortunately come with mushrooms as a pretty central ingredient, but when I let the server know, the manager came to thank me for letting them know and take care of my meal. I really appreciated the gesture especially since I still enjoyed the dish other than that element. The meal was finished with a Nutella and hazelnut bread pudding, which was insanely delicious but also a little rich so maybe not the best to pair with the risotto. Overall, I had a great experience. The level of service and quality of the food completely made up for the mistake. I will gladly return.
Lovely food, table was in the dark!i like romantic ambiance, but using phone flashlight to read the menu spoils the mood a bit. Otherwise, sangria was excellent, sunchokes pleased even our teen and the meatballs were great. If we weren’t from out town, we’d be back!
The food was amazing as usual, the service was also excellent. The reason I gave it a middling grade on ambiance is because of factors that had nothing to do with the service or the food. After waiting to be seated, despite having a reservation, we were seated in the small room with only about 4 tables, to my utter delight. I've requested that room before and not been seated there. After telling the friends that I had invited and the person who seated us that it's my favorite room and how happy I was that we were seated there since though still a bit noisy, it's the quietest spot in the restaurant, we were making our menu selections and chatting about the entrees and I was making recommendations.
Then we were disturbed by a man, maybe a manager, since he was not the one who seated us. He asked us if we would move to accommodate a larger party. In unison, we all said no. Considering how many times I requested the room when I made the reservation and was not seated there and considering how many times I requested to avoid the main room by the window when I made the reservation and was denied that as well, I thought it was tacky and ill-mannered to ask us to move because someone else requested it after we were seated and after I'd already announced that it was my favorite room as we were seated.
When I have asked to be moved to anywhere but outside and where I had been seated on many occasions, I was always told no. This is restaurant 101, don't ask customers with reservations to move after they have been seated and have already expressed that they are happy with their table. He did not apologize for this affront and while I have introduced dozens of people to this place over the years, it's a rookie move. The service was excellent by the server. When I was there in September, I had a terrible seat and terrible service and they brought me the wrong item twice! I wish it were more consistent in terms of service.
We had a group of 9 people gathered for our monthly brunch. The waitress was one of the worst servers I have ever encountered and we have eaten all over Los Angeles. She was rude, argumentative and non attentive. In fact, most of the wait staff was this way, with the exception of the busboy who was the only one who listened to us. Overall things that we asked for were never brought to us or we had to as 2 or three times. We were charged for fruit on our plates which the waitress claimed she told us was an additional $1.50 (we were charged $2.00 on our bill) when we questioned it, she said "Well, if you're going to argue over $4, then just take it off the bill and have a Merry Christmas. " Her tone was dismissive and defensive. To be fair, the manager did offer us a $60 in gift cards to return for another meal. I don't think I will ever return here.
