Taste on Melrose Ratings and Reviews
It wasn't that the atmosphere was dingy. It wasn't even that the food was bad. They simply acted like they didn't care! My friend and I went for happy hour, looking for a relatively upscale-casual restaurant in WeHo. I had made a reservation on OpenTable, and when my friend who got there before me said that we had reservations, they said that my reservation was nowhere to be found, even though I had gotten a confirmation from OpenTable. The servers were apathetic at best, never brought my friend's drink (and still charged her for it), and when we asked to split the bill of 3 items, they got the item breakdown wrong. I really, really wanted to like this restaurant. But I was not impressed.
Honestly, it was a disappointment. We ordered the Mac n cheese w lobster, the truffle oil pizza and both lacked much taste at all. Our waitress was Morgan, attentive, professional a great server.
When one makes a reservation and indicates that it is a special occasion then acknowledge it. Or don’t ask. For what had the anticipation of a great evening ended up being the opposite.
i was very pleasantly surprised. A friend recommended it and it was just as she said. I do think, however, that the delicious salad at the beginning of the meal (beet, etc) was a bit small. My son's chicken was a very good portion, as was my pasta. The dessert, however, was FANTASTIC! I had key lime pie and it was probably one of the best I have ever tasted. I will definitely go back there again. There was a mixup in the bill which the waiter straightened out, but I found it kind of curious to make a mistake and charge us double. But since this was my first time at the restaurant I didn't think too much of it... all in all, a good meal, The servers helping the waiter were fantastic!
Entrees took over an hour due to some "back up" in the kitchen. When meal finally did arrive it was the wrong order. I was so hungry at that point I did not send it back, but should have since we were charged full price for the wrong order. My date's side of mac n cheese was watery. Waiter came by very infrequently and only offered bread as we waited for our meals. Everything went wrong this time at Taste. We're very disappointed
Sunday brunch was so noisy we were yelling to hear one another and they seated six people at the four person table next to us. The food seemed mediocre. The wait person was excellent in spite of the overcrowding. It seemed they were squeezing in as many as possible for the money. . Once back on the street on Melrose it seemed quiet in comparison.
Went to Taste for my sons birthday lunch. They had a handwritten birthday card waiting. We sat on the inside patio which was beautiful. The drinks and food were delicious and got dessert they brought out key lime pie with a candle. Special place for a special day!
Wonderful as always! However The fries came out cold and were not very good. The server could tell we were unhappy with them and had the manager check in with us. I believe his name was Brandon. He was super sweet and brought us out two spring rolls that the chef made especially for us. What a wonderful experience.
First time dining at this location left much to be desired. The staff was attentive and we were seated fairly quickly, however, it took what felt like 20 minutes to get the drinks and 30 + minutes AFTER that to get the food. I don't think I ever had to wait that long at a restaurant. The food was okay but the portion of the steak and the fish were so small that two people from our party left pretty hungry still. Will unfortunately not be returning.
My friend and I made a reservation because we realized they had Saturday happy hour and I'm so glad we did. Their Apple and carmelized onion pizza was so good we ended up getting 2. And their drinks were tasty AND strong. We are definitely going to come back again!
I've been coming here for years and there were several hiccups this weekend. The reserved table wasn't ready and we were given a terrible table. There were lots of other tables but they were saving them for large parties that didn't show up although I'd asked if we could sit elsewhere. Since we were already waiting a while, that was frustrating. I was very specific about leaving a couple of items off due to a medical condition and was brought the wrong item twice. I don't think it's a good idea to have one person take your order and another deliver it since the server had no idea what I asked for and the excuse I was given was pretty much BS. The diners at the next table saw that my food was delivered to the table twice and volunteered that I was crystal clear when I ordered and I repeated it before he left the table to recap. This is the second time I had this happen (where my order came incorrectly twice!!) when I came on a weekend at lunch so I think I'll stick to dinners only since it looks like you get the B-team during lunch on a Saturday or Sunday. Lesson learned.
This is a neighborhood favorite of ours. Taste always makes for a lovely dining experience. I have brought my mother for dinner and for their Mother's Day Brunch. I have been for their New Year's Eve party and their Fourth of July BBQ Luncheon as well as several tasty dinners. They have a daily prix fixe menu that I enjoy with either the 2-course or 3-course option. On this particular evening, my mother and I both had their Chicken Tortilla Soup as a starter and inhaled the delicious Crispy Parmesan Chicken Paillard entree. It is really good! I have also had their Risotto, which is quite delectable and other items, which I have always enjoyed. In addition to a stockpile of crafted cocktails, they also have a rather notable wine list.
They recently (a year or so ago) expanded and now have a large covered patio in the back of the restaurant if you want the outdoor experience but there are no tables available on the front patio. My favorite spot is always in one of the big bay windows (it used to be a house) that overlook the front patio giving you that outside-dining-feel while still being inside and up higher.
