Taste on Melrose Ratings and Reviews
We had a group of 9 people gathered for our monthly brunch. The waitress was one of the worst servers I have ever encountered and we have eaten all over Los Angeles. She was rude, argumentative and non attentive. In fact, most of the wait staff was this way, with the exception of the busboy who was the only one who listened to us. Overall things that we asked for were never brought to us or we had to as 2 or three times. We were charged for fruit on our plates which the waitress claimed she told us was an additional $1.50 (we were charged $2.00 on our bill) when we questioned it, she said "Well, if you're going to argue over $4, then just take it off the bill and have a Merry Christmas. " Her tone was dismissive and defensive. To be fair, the manager did offer us a $60 in gift cards to return for another meal. I don't think I will ever return here.
Usually we're really happy with the food, but this is time it was subpar. I think they were super busy and so rushing to get food out. I would rather have waited another 15 minutes and had a consistent meal. The manager (young guy) was really nice and accomadating.
This is the second year in a row that we decided to have Thanksgiving dinner at Taste. It was good but last year was by far better. First of all....they cram tables in EVERY available space that they could so they could stuff the place to the gills. There wasn’t very much space between tables so it definitely wasn’t an intimate experience as you got to experience the conversation of the table next to
you and it distracted you from
your own. the food was decent. The menu was pre - selected so you only got
choose your entree. The choices were prime rib, salmon, and turkey. I got
the turkey and it was tender and yummy. My boyfriend got
the salmon and he said it was “really good”. The only complaint about the stuffing was that it was a little burnt on the top. The rest of the courses were good. The dessert was worth mentioning. The chocolate bread pudding was amazing, and their pumpkin tart was pretty amazing as well. They had a panna cotta on the desert plate and it was ehhhhh. It tasted almost floral and soapy so we left that one alone. Taste did raise the price from $45 last year to $55 this year and I understand the increase but I think $50 would have been a more fair price. The service was good. Our server was patient as we had already been indulging in holiday spirits so she explained everything for us, never rushed us, and was very pleasant. The experience was decent enough, but it didn’t change much from
the previous year and this year’s Thanksgiving wasn’t quite as memorable as the last one.
Reservation made far in advance. Table was stuffed in a corner when many pleasant tables were open. Drinks took forever. Appetizers were mediocre. Waitress was snippy. Definitely not the kind of evening I planned. We left before dinner. That was the BEST move ever!
I found this on a whim while visiting the area for my mine and my fiancé birthday trip. We were both pleased with the ambiance of the place as well as the food, it was really nice for brunch and the server made it even better by bringing out a key lime pie (by far one of the best I've ever had) to complete the dining experience. Although it was noisy at times, it wasn't too bad. I would recommend this to anyone looking for good vibes, food and drinks.
I went for brunch! The cinnamon roll is a MUST! Great drinks and attentive servers. I must say, the seating is VERY cramped and the noise level inside the restaurant was insane. You could barely hear any conversation happening at your table and often, not what the server asked you either. Overall, it is a GREAT place for brunch.
It wasn't that the atmosphere was dingy. It wasn't even that the food was bad. They simply acted like they didn't care! My friend and I went for happy hour, looking for a relatively upscale-casual restaurant in WeHo. I had made a reservation on OpenTable, and when my friend who got there before me said that we had reservations, they said that my reservation was nowhere to be found, even though I had gotten a confirmation from OpenTable. The servers were apathetic at best, never brought my friend's drink (and still charged her for it), and when we asked to split the bill of 3 items, they got the item breakdown wrong. I really, really wanted to like this restaurant. But I was not impressed.
Honestly, it was a disappointment. We ordered the Mac n cheese w lobster, the truffle oil pizza and both lacked much taste at all. Our waitress was Morgan, attentive, professional a great server.
When one makes a reservation and indicates that it is a special occasion then acknowledge it. Or don’t ask. For what had the anticipation of a great evening ended up being the opposite.
i was very pleasantly surprised. A friend recommended it and it was just as she said. I do think, however, that the delicious salad at the beginning of the meal (beet, etc) was a bit small. My son's chicken was a very good portion, as was my pasta. The dessert, however, was FANTASTIC! I had key lime pie and it was probably one of the best I have ever tasted. I will definitely go back there again. There was a mixup in the bill which the waiter straightened out, but I found it kind of curious to make a mistake and charge us double. But since this was my first time at the restaurant I didn't think too much of it... all in all, a good meal, The servers helping the waiter were fantastic!
Entrees took over an hour due to some "back up" in the kitchen. When meal finally did arrive it was the wrong order. I was so hungry at that point I did not send it back, but should have since we were charged full price for the wrong order. My date's side of mac n cheese was watery. Waiter came by very infrequently and only offered bread as we waited for our meals. Everything went wrong this time at Taste. We're very disappointed
Sunday brunch was so noisy we were yelling to hear one another and they seated six people at the four person table next to us. The food seemed mediocre. The wait person was excellent in spite of the overcrowding. It seemed they were squeezing in as many as possible for the money. . Once back on the street on Melrose it seemed quiet in comparison.
Went to Taste for my sons birthday lunch. They had a handwritten birthday card waiting. We sat on the inside patio which was beautiful. The drinks and food were delicious and got dessert they brought out key lime pie with a candle. Special place for a special day!
Wonderful as always! However The fries came out cold and were not very good. The server could tell we were unhappy with them and had the manager check in with us. I believe his name was Brandon. He was super sweet and brought us out two spring rolls that the chef made especially for us. What a wonderful experience.
