The server is completely scattered. He took the order without writing it down, forgot order and came back with a tablet to write it down Forgot coffee. Forgot cream. Forgot bagel. Took 10 minutes to get cream cheese for bagel. Food has an interesting twist and is pretty decent, but the service takes away from the overall experience. Would not return.

Excellent and creative food. We went on a Sunday night so it was pretty quiet. But our server, Ty, gave us great advice on the menu and was attentive. We loved the hot stone wagyu beef small plate. Everything was fresh and delicious.

Worst experience in a while, found this place on Open table for Valentines. Ruined the night, server provided the worst service, food came out late or not at all, water never refilled and the food was just okay. I'm sure if we had a better server things might have been different I did see one of the other servers much more personable and frequently checking in on their tables. I even had to flag another server down when our server took our knives mid steak dinner. Will not be returning.

The restaurant was inside the hotel and there was live music going on in the lobby. Customer service was great. The menu have lots of different variety. The loco moco, beef was a little tough. Fish taco was awesome.

Great food and lovely staff: the wait staff were helpful with menu questions and very accommodating, the food was in share plates and even the smallest es were very generous in portion and incredible flavours. This is definitely on the list of must do again. Highly recommend for small or larger groups

Loooong wait for drinks, wait staff blamed bar backup, but there was nobody (nobody) at the bar and only a few other diners in the restaurant. Beautiful ambience and some of the items we ordered were wonderful (hot stone steak) while others were way off (mahi mahi very dry and over spicy - inconsistent, as I had the mahi mahi before and it was also dry, but spiced nicely). Overall too long a wait, poor service (may have been new but others should have helped out if so) and just so-so food.

Excellent service. Interesting menu, though wouldn’t do brunch again— thinking dinner and lunch are more interesting and true to the “Spanish meets Hawaiian” cuisine. Plating choices were odd— large dishes that overflowed off of plate and onto table made it difficult to eat and fully enjoy— restaurant might want to reconsider (I specifically had the short rib hash).

My friend and I had an exceptional meal, sharing 3 small plates and one large plate. I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts. Our waiter was very helpful with putting together our choices. (I think his name was JC). Would not hesitate to dine here again.

The restaurant was quiet on a Friday night, we only saw another 2-3 tables through out the night. The food was inventive, fresh ingredients and delicious! Limited vegetarian options, though the chef managed to swap out some of the proteins for tofu to cater for Vegetarians. The cocktails were delicious and inventive! We were celebrating a birthday, and the restaurant came out with candles on a cake and took all desserts off the final check!

Food was delicious, server was attentive yet patient, and the drinks were yummy! I highly recommend the Brussel sprouts and the burrata! We also had the King Salmon, Ahi Tuna Tostadas, and Guava Tres Leches Cake. I would definitely come back based on this experience. Much quieter than I anticipated it to be considering the location and on a Saturday night, but it may be due to the Labor Day Weekend. A little pricey - but for three of us, it came out to about $45 each after tip - which included a cocktail for each of us.

Probably a great restaurant on a Saturday night. There were hints of excellence- good sauces ...seemed like they were missing the main chef.
Meatballs had a delicious sauce on the outside but were incredibly dry on the inside. Salmon was overcooked despite delicious sauce. Short ribs were chewy.
Too bad

Excellent, attentive service. Items are creative and prepared with quality in mind. Serving plates are tasteful. Entrance up the circular staircase is inviting; however, the dining room itself is cold, modern. Tables nicely spaced, but the chairs have hard backs. I'll definitely return for the food and service, but next time with a back cushion!

Ate here pre-theater on a Sunday night, and it was empty. This is crazy, because the food is great. Interesting Asian-Hawaiian-Peruvian fusion, and mostly small plates to share. The star dishes were the Ahi Poke Tostadas and Hot Stone Wagyu, but everything was great. I am returning the next time I have tickets for something at the Golden Gate Theater. It is definitely one of the best nearby options.

Every dish was delectable! I've eaten there 4 times in 4 months, always with different people who found the menu broad, inviting, and satisfying. We enjoyed chicken roulade over risotto and fresh peas, potato samosas, crab cakes, braised short ribs, chocolate mousse and truffles. The chef came out and chatted with us - a nice touch. Highly recommended.

Despite an off-putting location and weird decor, we enjoyed ourselves a lot. We wanted to try most of the menu so we ordered more food than we could finish, despite our waiter's excellent guidance. Standouts were the burrata, short ribs. Meh on the samosas and waygu beef. Both desserts (we shared among 3 of us) were terrific. Cocktails mediocre. I hope this restaurant makes it -- it's hidden in an obscure hotel, off a weird lobby.

Interesting tapas menu....large dishes are big portions, but pretty pricey. Small dishes are delicious...varied choices, all interesting. We had the crab cakes which were moist, delicious and not extremely salty which is my usual biggest issue with crab cakes other places. The Korean ribs were succulent with a honey glaze. All in all a good pre-theater choice. Fairly expensive though, approximately $50/pp... sharing dishes without liquor.

Taste on Ellis was the perfect dining spot for our group of six before theatre at the Golden Gate. The ambience was calm and quiet so we could have a conversation and the shared plates and creative Hawaiian Hispanic cuisine made for a delicious evening. Our server went out of her way to take good care of us. Highly recommend.

Amazing food and service. Great value for creative and fresh food. The menu has lots to choose from and the "small plates" were more than I expected. The restaurant sits above a swanky bar/lounge. There's nothing else like this in SF. I'm really excited for this restaurant.

I planned a surprise birthday dinner for my husband and 16 guests at Taste on Ellis. I could not be more impressed with the chef, the food, the servers, the manager. They went above and beyond to create a very special experience with a pre-selected menu. All 18 of us are global foodies and we were all floored with the creative and delicious dishes, not to mention the wonderful ambiance the team created. I highly recommend Taste on Ellis for a unique experience. Thanks to all those at Taste on Ellis. Bravo!

Our menu - all of it outstanding: - Ahi Tostadas, Deviled Eggs, Chickpea Fries, Hamachi Crudo, Huli-Huli Beef, Garden Salad w/Avocado Mousse, Burrata and Roasted Tomatoes, Charred Octopus, Braised Short Rib, Chicken Roulade, Kalua Port Sopes

Food was undercooked, poorly paired with vegetables/ingredients. There were 6 of us and no one was satisfied with their dish. One person cancelled his meal all together. For the price we paid... we would have been better off going to some chain restaurants.

We really enjoyed the food and cocktails. Delicious octopus and Korean ribs. Cooked perfectly and generous portions. Server was very attentive and pleasant. Location is great for pre-theater or near-Union Square dining.

The restaurant called after being seated, to ask if we were going to make it - we'd given our name and told them we had reservation when we arrived, so be sure to have them acknowledge arrival for OpenTable purposes.

They were out of one of the ingredients for the cocktail I ordered. The appetizers are overpriced. The Kalua pork entree was dry and lacked much flavor, due to the overpowering bland masa. The braised short rib was delicious but not really Hawaiian or Latin.

A quiet mezzanine dining room in a renovated hotel provided a nice place to share conversation and small plates with a visiting friend. The service was a bit slow which suited the occasion but may not work for theater goers. The waiter was friendly and helpful in explaining what each dish was and recommending some. I'd go back under the same circumstances i.e. a visitor staying in a Union Square hotel would like a casual meal with conversation in the area.
