We loved the wine flight and the lavender/honey bruschetta was delicious!
Wonderful atmosphere , great food and wine and attentive staff! We had two appetizers and then dinner. The chef is amazing. First time there and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Will definitely be back!
The food was outstanding... watching the chef make our food was fun from the bar. The bartender was nice but surprised we had reservations. Not a lot of people but still nice to have a spot to sit when you are ready.
Chef did an awesome job almost like a sushi chef without the sushi. Great food choices and the food was delicious.
The staff at Taste On 23rd are fantastic, and know how to select wines that impress my palette on every visit. Quickly becoming my favorite neighborhood go to for client meetings and night caps.
It’s great to have a wine bar with so many food options. Although I wouldn’t go back just to do dinner here - we had a group of 6 for dinner and chose this because the menu looked so extensive - it’s a good spot for wine and heavy apps in a very casual setting. The food itself isn’t worth returning for but a few items were good. I’ll return because it’s a fun, casual wine bar in a great spot looking out onto 23rd.
Really enjoyed my experience and the service. The food was exceptional (the best wedge salad I have ever had). I was surprised that the wine was not cellar temp. It is a wine bar, after all!
I will not be back at this restaurant again. I suppose it could be ok for a quiet and quick glass of wine and snack, but we went for dinner and the menu was way too limited. The food we had was good though, bruschetta and risotto. The server was full of attitude and this is why I will not be back. The place was EMPTY and he would not accommodate us sitting outside. There was a bigger table in the window and that was off limits too! We were the only diners in the place besides 2 people sitting at the bar. Seriously?? I asked for a sauvignon blanc, anything from NZ. He simply said no, we have nothing like that. He did not offer alternatives or tastings! I ended up ordering a Rose my friend was having as she gave me a taste and it was fine. That sort of service is the exact reason I will not return to this establishment. Horrible, horrible attitude of server - not an accommodating pleasant experience at all! Avoid it!
We chose Taste 23 to give our out of town relatives a Portland experience in a great neighborhood. Our daughter and her friend met us there too. The wine and food were above average and our server gave us several helpful suggestions. We love tapas and the gradual succession of our choices helped us take our time so we could reminisce and reconnect.
Nice place to have a glass of wine and enjoy the company you’re with!
Went here for an early dinner and were delighted to find out that we were in time for happy hour. Overall, a high quality food, wine and service experience that will bring us back.
Taste on 23rd was a great find while visiting Portland and staying in its neighborhood. On the menu is a varied and fun selection of wines and all the food you would want to eat with whatever you select. I especially liked the truffled deviled eggs! Our waiter/server was very knowledgable/approachable and talked about wine in very accessible terms. The ambiance is very relaxed and cozy. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and plan to go back when next in Portland!
Taste on 23rd was not open at the time we went -- even though that was the time that our confirmed reservation specified. So that was a real nuisance, since we'd been on our way out of the city and had timed our departure in order to be able to make the reservation. Apparently, there was some failed communication between the restaurant and Open Table.
The negative ratings I'm submitting are primarily because Open Table won't let me submit this review without ratings. The food might be quite good -- but we didn't get the opportunity to find out.
The food didn't taste bad but very very overpriced for what it was.
