Tartine Manufactory - San Francisco
What Insiders Are Saying
Tartine Manufactory in the Mission is a huge operation with excellent pastries, coffee, and ice cream, and dinner as well.
I love Tartine but the service was absolutely terrible last night. The server forgot to put our entree order, which resulted in us waiting another hour to get our food. The server then forgot our dessert order....just not good service last night.
Always so good and was amazed our server researched my Open Table profile to note some dietary limits. Very pro. Food is exceptional and a quintessential California foodie experience.
I just LOVE this place! It’s better to go with large group and order as many things as you can from the menu! It’s that good! Service is great as well.
The food was good, service was great- I think they did a great job overall!
I've eaten here regularly since it opened and have always liked it: the food, the service, the value and the ambiance. However, prices seemed quite high to me this time for dinner, especially given the portion size. Charging $6.50 for three slices of bread, and then charging for it again if you ask for more is a bit much when they make the bread right there and the portion given is about an 1/9 of a loaf. The beet hummus app was quite tasty and pretty too, but it came with nothing to eat it on; no pita or flatbread. So unless you order the bread too, there's nothing to spread it on, and by the time it came we had eaten most of the initial order of bread. Same issue with the pasta with summer squash dish; we ordered it because two in our party are vegan. Given the lack of meat or seafood in the dish, the amount of pasta seemed miserly for $24. I think I will hereafter tend toward the takeout counter or lunch.
Food was embarrassing. So bad. The bread and butter were delicious though. So overpriced. The tagliatelle was thick and hard and oversalted and inedible. The beans and duck were a soupy concoction that was strange and very unappetizing and just not tasty. I’ve never had mushy fishy grilled octopus but they managed to do that too, and it was too salty. The beef tartare was odd and ok, but unimaginative and again, oversalted. The presentation on every single dish looked amateur and ugly. The soufflé cake was called a ganache, soufflé, and mousse. It was none of these things. It was thick, heavy, and tasted like it was made with just butter and cocoa powder. No nuance, nothing soufflé like at all.
I have been wanting to come here FOREVER. I don’t go out to dinner as much anymore because I am trying to save. I was so disappointed. $90 poorer (just for my half). It was crazy loud and the bathroom was disgusting.
Ick ick ick. Kind of angry and wanted to speak to manager but didn’t want to ruin my night further.
The restaurant was absolutely amazing, the staff could do a little better by being just a touch friendlier and paying attention a little bit more to what is going on in regards to little things like waiting quite a long time for something as simple as water. But, I will say, the restaurant is amazing, The food is incredible, the ambience is perfect and I will be back many times at several of their locations.
Sure they have some interesting dishes on the menu and most of it is pretty good. But it’s the sourdough bread and butter that’s always draws me in. So simple. Yet so delicious.
Delish and great service!
awsome ambiance, creative menu, cool space
Nicole our server was great, and their wine som, made a great recommendation for our entire meal 🍻
Incredible - everything was perfect.
Charging $6.50 for a piece of bread and a little butter is totally outrageous, even if you consider yourselves the best bread makers in the city, that you are not.
My crudo salmon was so salty I couldn't finish it.
I don't know what is the big deal about your place, just fads and snobbism.
Sorry I wasted my time and my son's money.
I mostly come here to sit at the bar and take in the natural light and even some of the restaurant’s soft lighting with some wine and bread. I love the space the the service is great.
He food was outstanding ! The octopus was the best I have ever eaten so many flavours !!! Beautiful presentation and a great dining room, I will for sure go back when I’m in town next !
The restaurant has slipped since our last several visits. The service was off and we felt we needed to wave flags every fifteen minutes or so to get attention. Poor service always diminishes the overall experience of a great restaurant, and even though the food was still great, we didn't feel we got value from the visit. There's also an annoying lack of window coverings in the afternoon, so we sat with the sun glaring in our faces for twenty five minutes as the sun set. It's obviously been mentioned before, because the wait person rolled her eyes when we expressed our discomfort.
We had to wait at least 40 minutes for the appetizers and then another annoyingly long time, probably another 40 minutes for a main course. We spoke to the waitress and she was sympathetic but did not explain reason for delays. They did give us a discount for the inconvenience.
Every bite was amazing, our server was the best. We look forward to our next visit.
We LOVE Tartine so this is an unusual review for us.
The service was rough - we waited almost 20 minutes for the server then our appetizers came along with one guests drink, we were half - 3/4 finished before our other 3 guests cocktails arrived so the toast was delayed as was the start of our meal together?
The octopus in a can was extremely fishy.
The steak was over salted so much it was inedible and we LOVE salt so that says a lot.
The desert wine we ordered didn’t come.
Overall it was really mediocre, don’t mind spending $450 on a good dinner but this wasn’t that.
The host and bussers were fantastic. Our water glass was never half full.
This is a quintessencial SF, CA restaurant. The bakery was already renowned, but now you can get a full seasonal menu to pair with that rustic, crunchy, delightfully doughy bread. The high ceilings in a posh, yet casual industrial setting are the perfect back drop for your artistically crafted meal. Great for a date, family, friends and even kids.
We went for dinner and even though we didn’t get a chance to enjoy their famous morning pastries, the food was delicious!! And bread with dinner was amazing. We can’t wait to go back.
Great food! The seating near the pastry register felt out of place and unconsidered. Felt a little off for dinner service, ok for casual am snacking.
We waited 20 minutes to be greeted at the table. Appetizers and drinks arrived in decent time but nearly an hour later, after a wrong dish had been delivered but no sign of our server or entrees, we asked for the bill. She suggested we take our entrees to go (?!) after saying we were stuck behind a large party. It was a bummer.
It is a very special place. I will remember our experience for a long time.
3 of us were planning on a leisurely dinner & didn’t want to order everything all at once. We let our server know this and she seemed to understand. We ordered drinks, a salad and vege dish to start with. Before the food arrived the server was back asking which entrees we’d like. We explained again that we wanted to eat the first course first, then order more. Again, she seemed to understand but was a bit pushy telling us to get an entree order in before certain things sold out. We we responded with, thank you, we’ll take our chances. She was also oddly hesitant to let us keep a menu at the table.
As we finished the first course, our menus, etc were swept up & dessert menus placed in front of us.
So...no entrees for us evidently?
I’ve dined here before and did not feel rushed at all. This time however it just felt like they were trying to get us out. Very unfortunate.
Food wise everything was delicious but salad dressing was too salty.
Poor service, salty dishry
Great food, ambiance, and customer service
It was great after we insisted on sitting in the main dining room and not by the entrance / in the walking path!
From the moment the drink arrived, I knew I was going to enjoy the meal. Everything was prepared meticulously and tasted fantastic. Really enjoyed the meal, and of course, the bread.
Amazing restaurant experience. Hostess who led us to the table acted a bit rude, but the waiter who served us did a great job. There was so much thought in every dish brought out and the Denver steak was amazing. Booked another reservation in 2 weeks.
Even though we had a reservation for 8pm (a bit later than what we hoped for, given we had somewhere to go at 9pm), we were not seated until 8:20pm. The host just said it was not in his control and we weren't even offered any glass of wine or bread even while we waited, with another 2 couples in the exact same situation!!
The portions were smaller than expected. Also, for being such a famous bakery, I was surprised not to get even a slice of their delicious bread with my pasta. That said, the food was delicious and I will definitely be going back—the above just would’ve been good to know beforehand.
Much like. Very yum.
Great cocktails. Great service. Amazing meal. Will definitely be coming back.
SUPERB FOOD, WENT THERE LAST SATURDAY AND BACK AGAIN, GREAT SERVICE, AMAZING INNOVATIVE MENU, COULD GO AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK!!!!
I’ve had many great meals at Tartine Manufactory, but on July 5th, the meal was not up their usual standards. Dessert, was, as usual, very good.
Food was innovative, but not fussy. Fresh combination of ingredients were a nice balance of healthful and comfort food. The spiced lentils with duck carnitas were outstanding! Very knowledgeable staff, and great wine recommendations.
Manufactory continues to be one of my top 3 faves in the City. Food is always wonderful. And this time one of the line chefs was willing and able to talk with me at some length about my baking questions. Can't recommend the place enough!
Love Tartine! Amazing ingredients, thoughtful preparation, great atmosphere, solid service make for an exceptional experience — every time.
What an awesome place. Great food, great service and great everything :-). Can't wait to go back.
