Used to be one of my favorites in SF. I dont know what happened to this place. Disappointing food, large portions and bad service.
Not the same Tartine I used to love!!
We made a reservation for Valentine’s Day for a party of 5. We were notified in advance that it would be a required set menu. I had been to tartine before and got everyone onboard promising great food and a warm atmosphere. The five course menu left a lot to be desired. The courses took an absurdly long time be served (this meal lasted 3 hours) and not by choice. We were waiting for 20+ minutes in between each course after plates had been cleared. We only wanted one bottle of wine we’re really just sitting with nothing in front of us. The portions were small, and by the time dessert rolled around at 11pm they had run out of the only non-chocolate dessert option. It was a huge and expansive disappointment to bring out of town guests.
We were eating with a group and not informed that they were operating with a pricey fixed menu either when making the booking or on the website. As a result were not allowed to order off the normal menu and were treated poorly when asking to do so.
My friend and I had the Strim tasting menu and were blown away. Our server was attentive and very nice, managed to give us recommendations. The tasting menu was refreshing and very delicious. I would come back for dinner!
I went for their annual pizza night, and naturally the masters of bread in San Francisco make a delicious sourdough italian style pizza crust. It was delicious, the drinks were great, and it was a delight. I have been for their normal, fancier-fare dinner and this was a great balance of a casual setting with above and beyond flavors. I'll be keeping my eye out for the next time they do this!
The cocktails were excellent, the food was very good, and I liked the ambience. The service was a bit slow and inattentive, but I'd definitely go back!
The crab fried rice was not edible. The rice was so hard it almost chipped my date’s teeth. The wine, bit the Pinot and the Cab were terrible and I could not even finish my second glass. For the price of the meal this level of quality was shocking. I will most likely not be visiting Tartine again.
Wonderful experience...AGAIN!! Warm and professional greeting at the door. Our guest had already arrived and was greeted and seated immediately.We had a chance to see our previous server,Jake . This time we had Emily , she was kind but not fussy. She had great suggestions and along with Clay who is ALWAYS fun and very informative, helped us make delicious food and wine choices. The amazing bean dish with pork neck, my new favorite! We discovered that the amazing pasta dish derived it's tang from starter used to make pasta with house made sausage. Delightful! Brilliant, we'll be back soon!!
Little gems salad with winter citrus was amazing.
We always have an amazing experience here! The overall service is amazing (our favorite server is Emily Rose!). It is rare these days that when you walk into a restaurant people not only know who you are, but also know your preferences in seating / server. It's a pretty special place.
The bread and dessert were definitely good, but the food was not wonderful, plus they got my order wrong and forgot to bring a second glass of wine to my friend. Definitely has gone down hill since a year or two ago.
I say I would recommend this spot, but I on the condition that you order the right thing. I took my parents there (visiting from Florida, in their early 60s) and they really enjoyed the scene, the bread, salads, and Brussels sprouts. My brother and I split the half chicken and it was inedible. I think they soaked it in brine for too long. It had the texture of spam and was incredibly salty. My brother said it was so salty, he felt like he had a mouth full of ocean water. It was a real bummer since I had been there before, really enjoyed it, and was excited to share it with my family, but since I'd now consider it "hit or miss", I'm going to opt for consistently delicious places to take people who visit.
Chicken was SO SALTY it was inedible. Soup was great, crab fried rice was decent.
3/4 entrees were excellent. My coworker ordered quail and it was bright pink. Sent it back and received a new piece equally as undercooked. Not a great experience.
I love Tartine Manufactory for breakfast, but the dinner was just okay.
Really dissapointed with the service, forgot some dishes and didn’t sequence or time our order at all. Very disappointed
First dinner time visit at this always popular brunch destination. Food is equally good at dinner. Focus on the first courses and appetizers and don’t forget to order the costly bread course.
The place is SO cool! The salad was amazing ... so fresh ... like it was picked a minute ago!! And I would go back for the banana tart alone ... it was the absolute best!! Fish (sole) was just ok not great - not much flavor but everything else was fantastic including the service which was A+!!
Food was enjoyable but too expensive so not really value for money. I think the dinner menu pales in comparison to the baked goods
We had a great time celebrating my son’s graduation. The service was a little slow to start but they were attentive and the food was great. Definitely recommended.
It's just not worth it. Dinner ended up being ~$50 a head, and the food just wasn't all that. Wouldn't recommend, and wouldn't return. Ambiance was pretty great though.

The place was freezing. The food was cold.
Everything savory we ate was too salty. My lips and tongue were irritated by the excessive salt by the time I finished the main course. The bread and desserts were excellent and delicious and not salty.
The bakery goods are unbeatable! The dinner menu consisted of expensive things, many we did not recognize. I'd for sure go back to try breakfast or lunch, but not for dinner. The dinner food was just too fancy for some of us. I took home three loaves of the spectacular bread!
I expected Tartine Manufactory to have more dessert options equivalent to their bakery menu, along with some identified Wheat Free/Gluten Free options for meals, given their name and chef. Few options for vegetarians and gluten free. Only the Brussel Sprouts appetizer was amazing. One entree was bland and one was only ok. More attention paid to listing the rare ingredients on the menu than on making the food taste delicious. Too pretentious for me.

I’ve had great food every other time I’ve been here but on this last occasion it didn’t live up to my expectations. I had fish, which was cooked well, but the sauce was excessively buttery - to the point where no other flavors came through. The greens were unevenly cooked. The Salad also was extremely heavy on the vinegar. I always find the service aloof and unfriendly here, but this time it was extra disorganized. Overall a disappointment for the cost. I assume they are short staffed around the holidays but a nice place with these prices should be consistently good.
Second time there. Food was so good the first time, that I let the uninterested service slide, even overlooked the charge for bread because it tasted so good. Won’t do it again. Bread charge even higher now which is truly ridiculous. Table right by the front door in the daytime cafe area, felt like an afterthought. Crab fried rice was memorable. Nothing else was. Much better places to spend our time and money. Done.

Very good meal, the highlights of which were the Steak Tartare Tartine appetizer, which was by far the best version of steak tartare we have found anywhere in the world. Also, the Chocolate Souffle Cake was equally amazing. Highly recommend Tartine...

I used to be a huge fan of this place when it opened, but after my last visit I can say with certainty that it's not worth your time. The menu and food quality isn't what it used to be and that's not even the worst part. The rude staff is the main reason why I will never go back here. They're condescending, presumptuous and totally unhelpful. Seriously reconsider before going to this once great restaurant.
The area in which we sat was freezing (next to the windows near the entryway). Our server said there was nothing she could do about it except to direct a space heater in our general direction. We were not the only ones who mentioned this issue - a couple on a two-top seated across from us away from the windows asked to move and they were sat in the main dining area. The couple I dined with wore their wool coats the entire dinner. I understand it is an old building , but it was cold. Hard to enjoy the food or evening while being so cold.
Really bad service tonight. Waiter hardly spoke to us, barely checked in, didn’t ask how anything was and took forever to bring the bill. They never brought our leftovers which we specifically asked to have wrapped to go. Really has gone downhill since my prior visits. Also bathroom area was a disgusting mess.
Bread, bone broth, steak tartare and black cod we're all delicious. Rabbit sausage rigatoni was ok. Cocktails we're good, but we had a pretty bad glass of Sauvignon Blanc
We went to get a preview of Ernest with Chef Brandon Rice. We chose the Ernest items rather than Tartine just for the obvious reasons.
Everything was wonderful. From beginning to end. The steak tartare was the single best dish I’ve had all year.
Staff was very pleasant and the volume was rather quiet and we sat in front of the line.
One con is they don’t serve soda. Not the biggest deal but sometimes I just want soda.
All in all a bargain and well worth the trip.
Amazing cocktails and bread. The dual nature and the oxacana were particularly amazing.
Went for dinner on a Friday night with a reservation. Ordered a salad and pasta. The salad took 35 minutes to come out and the pasta took another hour. Overall service was extremely slow and the food was very underwhelming and expensive for what it was. Plenty of other restaurants in SF with better food and service. Would not recommend
Overpriced for a small portion. This restaurant quality of the food is the worst out of all the restaurant that I have been to.
