Tartine Manufactory
What Insiders Are Saying
Tartine Manufactory in the Mission is a huge operation with excellent pastries, coffee, and ice cream, and dinner as well.
Great ambience and good food= one of our favorite go to restaurants. The bread as expected is fabulous. The food is solid - not spectacular but solid. The best dishes are the steak tartare, mixer drinks, and the broccolini... not so great? The pickles (kimchee abs regular)
We love Tartine. However, we ordered a meat dish to share. It was on the cold side. We expected our dish to be served hot.
It’s Tartine. Of course the food, the bread, the drinks were amazing. Unfortunately, the service both from the hostess and the wait staff was not good.
The dishes were delicious and the service was excellent.
I already have. :)
Not quite the frantic scene at the original spot but quite busy. The item I ordered was missing the sauce and the waiter was swell and brought us a desert. Good service, bustling and tasty food.
The bread was amazing and the service was fantastic
I was really excited about having dinner at Tartine Manufactory after visiting the bakery. The food was good, the portions very large our waiter told us it was family style but we could have used a warning that we didn’t need so many plates. The service overall was average. Our waiter forgot our drinks. Didn’t follow up often and not very engaged. The food was very good but not outstanding. Inexpected a bit more.
Thank you for the great restaurant and food - Always top notch!
Great from start to finish
Attentive staff, cool industrial vibe, delicious food, and of course the bread! Plenty of options for vegetarians.
The last visit, my food was noticeably lower quality for a dish that I literally ordered exactly a week ago. The spoon bread that came with my pork chop was almost burnt and hard - difficult to cut with my spoon in fact. Pork chop was a little overdone. I also expressed some unhappiness with one of the drinks I ordered - in fact did not even finish it - and our waitress did not offer to exchange it for a new drink or to remove the charge. I would not come back if I knew that they were consistently delivering food and service at this level of quality. It has been incredible in the past but I will be less likely to go back again knowing that quality is potentially highly variable!
What a train wreck! Some of the food was quite good, but some was just odd - for odd's sake. Both the menu and wine list seem a bit pretentious. I love seeing unfamiliar ingredients on the menu and love trying new stuff. But at the end of the day, there's not very much new here, and the quality is uneven. The pork chop was great, but the polenta was bland. The crudo was great, but the squid ink "spaghetti" was swimming in so much excess liquid, it was impossible not to wear it home and the clams were completely overpowered. Not to mention that the very thick "spaghetti" was actually bucatini. But the worst part by far was the service. Bread ordered by not delivered. Bread finally delivered after multiple requests - 18 minutes later, but then one of two bread plates randomly taken away by the same server. Wine never delivered. Then our server generously pronounced, "Oh, we just wanted to let you know that you won't be charged for the wine." THAT WE NEVER GOT!!!! Given others' favorable reviews of this spot, I'm completely shocked at what a bad experience we had. So, I can only hope that our experience is the exception, not the rule. We won't be going back to find out.
I think I had the most delicious bread there, that I have ever had. And the service was terrific. As is the comfortable vibe . However the food didn't work for us, and was poor value for the cost. The spaghetti with squid ink just didn't taste that great. Still, it seems to be a place people really like. So perhaps your experience will be much better.
Disappointed, 4th time eating here. After a subpar meal we thought we would give it another chance.
The food was cold, the service was mediocre. Out waiter never came by to check how the meal was?
From the pricing standpoint the food should really be much better and more attention paid from the kitchen.
We won’t be returning, on for the bread to go.
Amazing food & ambiance!
We had a party of five for dinner. Overall the experience was exemplary. Great food, drinks, wine and service. My only complaint is that the ambient noise level was excessive. The restaurant was filled to capacity, and it was difficult to hear those not sitting right next to me.
I had stomach problems and couldn’t digest my food and was awake all night. Too bad because I love their breads and cookies! Service was very nonchalant ... as if we were intruders since we are not hipsters!
Nice attentive service. Great food
Our first dinner at Tartine. Loved everything sbout it - and will return,
Disappointed. We went for dinner and the food was mediocre. We are not coming back.
Food was ok-- overpriced and overhyped. Ordered a few items and the only dish that stood out was the steak tartare appetizer. Also, service wasn't great.
Return visit was disappointing— hits and misses: Burrata on toast great but dinky compared to incomparable and generous wild mushroom/arugula Tartine; gem salad excellent. Asked our server whether $34 chicken entree was good to share and found very little chicken even for one— not even half a chicken breast with a small leg and thigh. Accompanying rice tasty but not crime fraiche-like addition. BE aware that menu on Open Table not necessarily up-to-date.
Great formal dining preparation in a less than formal setting.
Large group of diners create a noisy scene-Bay Area problem
I have been waiting to go to Tartine for years (I live in UT). I was worth it. The staff was wonderful and the food was great. Would definitely go again
Our waitress was dressed in a sloppy sweater like a day in when it’s raining. She stood at the counter a lot and didn’t ask us if we needed more bread. I ordered a glass of wine that never came and as she was hanging out at the counter she didn’t notice. She was rather blah and I have been there 3 other times and always had professional servers. Even my son who never complains said she wasn’t doing her job
Contemporary cuisine & Great wines by the glass selection!
Sooooo good! What a lovely experience. Food is excellent and unpretentious. Service was just lovely. Coming back for sure!
Everything was exceptional. Very responsive waitstaff despite the dinner rush. The appetizers were brought out in a thoughtful manner in courses prior to the mains. All of the food was divine.
Beautiful and delicious. Great service. Big, shareable portions. Pro Tip: GET THE BREAD!
We were new to the restaurant and the waitress didnt walk us through the menu. It wasn't until after we ordered and we would have ordered differently if she had been more helpful
The menu was excellent, the vibe is great can't beat that!
Food was good enough, but total experience was not great. Better for lunch than dinner
I want to like it. I've been several times. It misses more than hits.
Came here on a date. The food was amazing and our waitress recommended some really great items. Was very cold near the door/windows but otherwise, had a great experience!
Bread is excellent but, overall, food is just Ok. The $37 chicken was not dry. The pomegranate that was in the brown rice was a nice twist but the brown rice itself was a tad undercooked.
Horrible food. Horrible noise. Horrible staff. Just everything about this place is so overrated and so horrid.
The staff is extremely knowledgeable about all the food and beverage and eager to be sure everything is to your liking. True hospitality. The dishes are inventive and delicious. My second time here and I’m eager to go back again.
Good food. Fantastic dessert.
Dinner Review:
The celery/winter squash soup and little gems were excellent starters. The pork chop, Steak and squid ink pasta w Manila Clams were all prepared very well and definitely worth trying.
My favorite place to dine in SF. Each dish is a delicious treat. Can't wait to go back.
