Tarry Lodge Port Chester Ratings and Reviews
We had a reservation and it took them 20 minutes to seat us. We waited at the bar where the bartender charged our card $14 for a club soda - no really. The manager was involved and the situation finally handled, but it was embarrassing and awkward. We were then offered a table next to the door after 20 minutes. Our server was excellent and the meal was well timed - its unfortunate it got off to such a rocky start.
Our annual Pre-New Years Eve tradition at Tarry Lodge is not a let down. We celebrate and enjoy the food and time together. Everything we eat is wonderful and over the top. The service was outstanding considering it's typically a crazy night for them. Thank you again.
The food is excellent. The grapefruit coctail is fabulous. we had reservations early in the day and there were only approximately 4 tables occupied on the 1st floor level yet we were seated at the first table beside the door on a freezing cold day. We asked if we could move and we're told all tables were reserved. I had a hard time hearing everyone at our table(group of 5) because the tables are so close and the next table was occupied and the 3 hostesses on the other side of us greeting diners and hanging coats beside us.
My wife took me on my birthday and it ended up being a special evening dining experience. We were immediately seated and waited by our server named Marc who took great care on our well being and answered any of our requests of the menu. Started off with 2 smooth cocktails followed by a sharing of a delicious Frisee salad with cranberry, walnuts and Gorgonzola . We both had fish dinners; my wife's being salmon and mine branzini both expertly prepared. We declined desert as we were both satisfied but am sure they would follow suit with rest of the meal...next time! Over all a wonderful experience and will return soon and recommend to our family and friends!
We had the spaghetti carbonara which was excellent. We had the rigatoni with sage pork which was pretty good. Carbonara was better. The fries salad was disappointing. Next time I’ll order the carbonara. Menu has changed since we were there last. Not so many choices on the menu. And bring some reading glasses with you. The menu is printed in a tiny font so you will need help reading it.
Seven Fishes done as well as can be done. The finest ingredients and wonderful wine pairing. An extraordinary meal. Lobster with black ink pasta as first course and amazing sea bream with cockles and mussels for main. Appetizer was a scallop crudo with caviar and wonderful oil. Overwhelmed by the gracious service. The only sour note is that tables of two are never seated well. In this case next to the kitchen door which alternated heavy service traffic which couldn’t help but bumping into the table and the kitchen opening an outside door which put us in direct contact with the cold. It’s the fifth time we’ve celebrated Christmas Eve at Tarry Lodge and it’s the third time say at this damned table. Each time, we requested a seat anywhere else. Sigh.
Everyone loved their food and the service was great. I made the reservation a couple weeks out for a group of 10, the restaurant was not very busy (lots of empty tables) and we were seated in the back corner by the kitchen door and a waiter service station. The waiter station smelled a little sour and the waiters had to ask us to move a little twice to get into a drawer. It took away from the experience and felt like they could have been more thoughtful about the overall experience.
This was my second visit to Tarry Lodge and my appreciate for it continues to grow. We shared a wonderful antipasto and the gnocchi remains my favorite. The occasion was girls' night out to celebrate the season and the beauty of the restaurant and the great food and wine made a perfect evening.
The food is always good at the Tarry Lodge. The menu is very well conceived and executed. Aside from that, some of the tables on the path to the kitchen ruin the experience. The pathway is noisy . . . too noisy to maintain a conversation. It will be a while before I forget about the seating mix up that landed us at one of those tables, in the room where everyone has to shout to be understood.
Tarry Lodge serves food that is quite good. Reservation "services" are quite POOR.
I requested a quiet table for 4 in the River Room, mentioning that the last time this group was at the restaurant we were seated there next to a large party of 9. So, what happened this time -- we were placed between 2 large parties. A fine restaurant would not do this. Since Tarry Lodge calls to confirm reservations, that would be the appropriate time to discuss table assignment.
I have been wanting to go here for years and it was so worth the wait! Definitely more of a special occasion or celebration type of place for the full entrée experience, but I will definitely go back and try the pizza! The service was friendly, informative and welcoming. The food was memorable. Will definitely go back!
Dinner was fabulous. We shared the autumn vegetable burrata, house bread and olive oil (amazing olive oil!!), two different red wines and a a tiramisu. Each of us had a different pasta dish for meals - both were delicious. I had the bolognese, which is my italian go to, and it did not disappoint. Our waiter was on point and an expert with the menu and especially in helping us choose Red wines. You MUST get the tiramisu! All around great meal, only downside was being the table right in front of the kitchen door. When we return, I will make sure to request another spot. We were physically bumped into a lot and felt like we were on the waitor runway. Our waitor apologized with a glass of moscato at the end of the night. A truly great spot!
Delicious food and excellent service.
When we arrived we were given a table and asked the waiter if we could move to a quieter table. He said no problem and helped us move. Waiter was very attentive and helpful and the food was brought out in a timely fashion.
Everyone loved their meals and the wine was great.
Can’t wait to go back.
Tarry Lodge has fantastic service and a wonderful menu. The noise level is a high but a nice, casual atmosphere otherwise. I don't think you can get a bad meal here. The wine list was good and the staff very helpful. Food price value good but adding alcoholic beverages could get costly. Just don't think about it, make a reservation and go.
It is rare that a restaurant truly exceeds your expectations - but Tarry Lodge did. We were there for my wife’s birthday and it was perfect. We were seated at two-person table in a nook, so while the Saturday night crowd was boisterous we were able to easily hear each other. The service was warm , helpful and welcoming. The food was all well prepared and delilicious. And finally, with a technological assist from OpenTable which inquired about the occasion for the reservation, and the staff made a low-key and tasteful salute to my wife’s birthday. Perfect evening.
