Tarry Lodge Port Chester Ratings and Reviews
Tarry Lodge serves food that is quite good. Reservation "services" are quite POOR.
I requested a quiet table for 4 in the River Room, mentioning that the last time this group was at the restaurant we were seated there next to a large party of 9. So, what happened this time -- we were placed between 2 large parties. A fine restaurant would not do this. Since Tarry Lodge calls to confirm reservations, that would be the appropriate time to discuss table assignment.
I have been wanting to go here for years and it was so worth the wait! Definitely more of a special occasion or celebration type of place for the full entrée experience, but I will definitely go back and try the pizza! The service was friendly, informative and welcoming. The food was memorable. Will definitely go back!
Dinner was fabulous. We shared the autumn vegetable burrata, house bread and olive oil (amazing olive oil!!), two different red wines and a a tiramisu. Each of us had a different pasta dish for meals - both were delicious. I had the bolognese, which is my italian go to, and it did not disappoint. Our waiter was on point and an expert with the menu and especially in helping us choose Red wines. You MUST get the tiramisu! All around great meal, only downside was being the table right in front of the kitchen door. When we return, I will make sure to request another spot. We were physically bumped into a lot and felt like we were on the waitor runway. Our waitor apologized with a glass of moscato at the end of the night. A truly great spot!
Delicious food and excellent service.
When we arrived we were given a table and asked the waiter if we could move to a quieter table. He said no problem and helped us move. Waiter was very attentive and helpful and the food was brought out in a timely fashion.
Everyone loved their meals and the wine was great.
Can’t wait to go back.
Tarry Lodge has fantastic service and a wonderful menu. The noise level is a high but a nice, casual atmosphere otherwise. I don't think you can get a bad meal here. The wine list was good and the staff very helpful. Food price value good but adding alcoholic beverages could get costly. Just don't think about it, make a reservation and go.
It is rare that a restaurant truly exceeds your expectations - but Tarry Lodge did. We were there for my wife’s birthday and it was perfect. We were seated at two-person table in a nook, so while the Saturday night crowd was boisterous we were able to easily hear each other. The service was warm , helpful and welcoming. The food was all well prepared and delilicious. And finally, with a technological assist from OpenTable which inquired about the occasion for the reservation, and the staff made a low-key and tasteful salute to my wife’s birthday. Perfect evening.
If you are not a large party, that is more than 4 people don't waste your time or money going to this restaurant. While the food maybe good, the overall operation of this restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. The staff's entire focus is on larger parties. My wife and I were seated at a table for 2 that was along the wall on the way to the kitchen - so it was like eating dinner in the middle of Grand Central Station. When we complained to one of the managers all we received in return was a smile, a shrug of her shoulders and a "sorry about that" yet two other couples that were going to be seated behind us complained and were moved. Second, I tried to order the special for that evening - Pork Chop Milanese but was told they were out of it. How is that possible to be out of your special by 8:30pm on a Saturday night? Other tables were offered and given bread with their dinner - we were not so lucky... in fact I would have ordered a second drink, if I had been asked but once again not so lucky. We ordered bottle water as opposed to tap but when they went to refill my wife's glass they were not paying attention and poured tap water into it. They corrected their mistake by bringing a second bottle of water but charged me for it in the process. By the time the check came I was so disgusted and tired of the poor service I just want to get out this place rather than argue over the $6.00. When they delivered the food they just dropped it in front of you and walked away - no offer of any seasoning, i.e. ground pepper. It was like we were an afterthought. Do yourself a favor and go eat somewhere else in Port Chester - there are plenty of other places where the food is just as good and that provide real customer service even if you are just a party of 2.
There were plenty of empty tables on Saturday night. Greeting was friendly. Service was prompt. BUT THE FOOD WAS EXCEEDINGLY SALTY! My husband ordered “the special” pork chop Milanese - the breading was very salty. Pasta Bolognese greasy- We were disappointed
Bad first impression when we arrived - host was smug and a bit rude to people (not us) but that was my observation. The seater was nice though. Service went downhill from there - best word to describe them was “joyless” - all seemed distracted, rushed (yet painfully slow) and unhelpful. Ordered an anti pasta for a table of 5 adults and it was too small. It would have been helpful to have been told it would be too small. I literally got a tiny bite or two of things on the tray. Disappointing. Then it took forever to put in our actual order. The food was uninspired - even dessert was a total yawn.
First time and last time. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation time and they seated us exactly at our time even though there were numerous tables that were free. I did not know who my waiter/ waitress was. Too many people waiting on our table. The waitress did not know if a side came with the dishes we wanted to order. The bread came 20 minutes after our appetizer. The food was way overpriced, I guess they need to pay for all the staff. Advice to Tarry Lodge, you do not need staff to just pour wine and bring a bread basket, one waiter/waitress is a enough.
This is a neighborhood restaurant for us and the quality of food never disappoints - it is always delicious! However, service can be better - during our last visit, drink order was forgotten, my friends champagne was adsolutely flat but what really put it over the top was branzino served on what literally was a small appetizer plate with potatoes piled on top. I did ask to filet the fish but did not expected to be thrown on what looked like a bread plate after. Who knows, maybe it was a busy night or the kitchen ran out of big plates, but when you charge $30 for a dish you should at least try to make it look appealing. A bit disappointing as I was very much looking forward a great experience I always expect from Batali's places.
Everything was superb except the table & the dining room where we sat, obviously it didn't help to have a reservation. The table was very small, we were spatially cramped up against the wall. In fact it actually felt as if we were in a hallway because to some extent we were. We were extremely physically uncomfortable ! The entire dining room where we were placed was loud & non-conducive to a quiet Sunday evening dinner eliminating any sense of ambiance. We will not return to the Port Chester location unless we can sit else where ! We will be checking out their other locations in Westport & New Haven.
The food is always great here but last night the service was not. Our drinks were delivered after we were halfway through our salads. Water refills were unheard of. The typical things they do we had to ask for (bread). Just disappointing for the place
