Worst experience. The steak was fake. The mash potatoes were just a gross. This is the worst food I have put in my mouth. Please upgrade the spot.
This is our second visit to Tarrant's while visiting our nephew who attends VCU. Food has been great and staff very attentive. We will be back.
Great Service and Food
Good service. Chicken Marsala was rubbery.
This is one of my favorite restaurants although I got the 1/2 cobb salad yesterday and it was very small for the money. My friend got the catfish sandwich and loved it. The bread and garlic with butter is absolutely the best!!!
We love Tarrants! The food for the most part was excellent. I would not recommend the fried oysters - they were way over done. Everything else was exceptional, though!
I’m very hard of hearing and I really could not communicate with anyone the whole time we were there. We had to wait over 20+ minutes for a table that we had reserved.
I had chicken and waffles. The chicken was pretty dry and way over breaded and fried.
In town for business, this place was a delightful find. Unique, great atmosphere, food, drinks (especially lemon drop martini) all yummy. Wish I lived closer, will return when in the area.
Always love Tarrants.
The mahi mahi was dry and very bland. The sides were as well, very disappointing.
Restaurant VERY crowded. No place to stand while waiting to be seated. Service was slow. One diner unable to eat his pork chop. It was so tough he couldn’t cut it. The other three meals were quite good. Very noisy.
Tarrents is a solid favorite! Food was delicious - I had the grilled sea scallops with basil risotto. The scallops were cooked perfectly. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu ensuring we received on point recommendations. Highly recommend!
This was my first visit to this establishment per a friends recommendation for a birthday celebration, which was not an unexpensive tour. For the price of the items on the menu there could have been a much elegant atmosphere.
It seems the thing to order is seafood, as the past 2 times, I have tried meat dishes and have been disappointed, while their blackened corvina is always on point. Drinks are hit and miss, guess this depends on who is behind the bar. Our last visit was met with louder than normal music, on a more pop channel, while the visit before last was some awesome jazz, at just the right dining level. Both meat dishes I have had are out of price point, for value received. The ribeye was without any flavor, however it was cooked properly.
Convinced family to dine here. Wife and I had eaten here before. Food was excellent, service compliments to Paul was outstanding. Five of us were happy with the food and outcome. Full bellies and smiles.
Superb server, kitchen a bit slow, but we bumped up against closing time. Cuisine excellent. We were party of 7 and had a great table in quiet area at back. All in all, very nice experience.
I've had several enjoyable meals at Tarrant's; however, my most recent visit was a little disappointing. I ordered the very excellent she-crab soup as my starter and it was as flavorful and thick with crab as usual, but the temperature was decidedly tepid. I chose the pork chop as my entree; it was a lovely thick cut and the bourbon glaze was perfect, but the meat had been overcooked to the point of dryness. We shared the triple berry cobbler for dessert and that was the winner for the evening; delicious!
Food took over an hour to come out, without apology or explanation. Waitress was disrespectful and inattentive (waters went unfilled for long stretches of time, without any sense of recognition). The quality of service and food has severely diminished within the past 2 years. Very disappointed and will not be returning.
Very good brunch. The French toast, however, was weak. Nowhere near the price.
Carson was amazing, she managed our experience very well, made sure we were not late for our show and discussed our velvet parking. She was also very helpful with our entrees. We would go back just for Carson!
We have eaten here several times and it's always excellent. this round we had the founder stuffed with crabmeat and a ribeye. Very nice. And the desserts... they had a samoa cheesecake, and of course the apple pie dish was excellent as well
Beautiful atmosphere and wonderful food, a Richmond gem
It's always a pleasure to dine at Tarrant's. Excellent food and service. Thanks for making our evening special.
Went for a birthday lunch on our way to Charlottesville. Service was great and went beyond expectations when young lady found out we had a birthday in our group. Loved the extensive and interesting sandwich menu. We will go back
Had a great brunch with my Mom on Sunday. Food was great and service was very good. Very good experience and would definitely return.
This is our preferred pre-theater restaurant. This night it was a disaster. We had a 6:15 p.m. reservation and an 8:00 p.m. theater performance. We arrived before our reservation time. The hostess clicked our name off the iPad reservation list and then added our name to a list on a clipboard. We waited and waited. Several parties arrived after us and for some reason were immediately seated. We were not seated until 6:40 p.m., 25 minutes after our reservation time. Then to top that we were seated in what appeared to have been a storage closet or area just outside the kitchen.
We were eventually served and as we were entering the theater they were announcing for those in the lobby to immediately take their seats. This did not make for a pleasant and relaxing evening.
While I rated our service poor, that was based on the service at the front end. Once our server discovered our problem, he made every effort to speed our order along.
We also thought the food was not up to what we have come to expect at Tarrants. My wife's lasagna appeared to be something directly out of a frozen dinner package. My meatload appeared to be a pre-packaged item, not fresh.
While I seldom request changes to a meal as listed on the menu, I did need to this time as I am on a special diet. My server and the kitchen were very accommodating.
Tarrants is one of my favorite restaurants.
My only complaint is that we were seated in one of the very worst booths for a crowded Saturday night- the place where the end of the bar and the narrow entrance corridor converge. It resulted in a lot of activity beside our table. Not ideal for a quiet meal with conversation.
Hope this was just an off day but we were very disappointed. Have been to Tarrant’s many times but this was a first time for early lunch. First, the service/kitchen was extremely slow. It took over 45 minutes to get our meals, which were mostly sandwiches. Our waitress never checked back during this time. Finally we flagged down the “manager” and then our food appeared.
Then the food itself was not hot, and the BLT’s were inedible due to the really fat bacon. Had to pull that off. So had a LT. Overall I rate this visit as poor.
The crab cake was the worst I ever had. Tasted like a cheap frozen one from a grocery store. No crab.
Ordered the steak cooked rare, served medium to medium well.
Wifes food was good, fish with crab.
My fourth and last visit.
We went for a post theater dinner with family and out of town friends. Very much appreciated their willingness to customize items for several members of our party. Food was excellent. The garlic bread was amazing.
Prompt service, attentive and professional. Quality of food good, will definitely be going back.
Excellent from the minute we arrived. Although we had made a reservation, our table wasn't ready so we had a dink at the bar. Great bartender: personable, great customer service with lots of knowledge. Our waitress was great: attentive and professional and food was great (be sure to order the She-Crab soup, not to be missed!). We will be back to Tarrant's the next time we are in Richmond!
As always, the food was great. Best customer service I have found anywhere. We had to wait 15 minutes for reservation seating and they comped all our drinks. This was dinner for a birthday and they surprised us with a wonderful birthday dessert. It's no wonder they are full most of the time.
The entire experience was superb. Chelsea was friendly, knowledgeable and a wonderful waitress. We showed up early for our reservation and greatly appreciated how accommodating the hostess was for getting us a table. Thank you!
Too much breading on the Oysters. Usually they are pretty good.
Went for Sunday brunch prior to play, a little noisy and crowded but food and service were very good. I would recommend and I will definately go again!
Had to wait 30 mins past my reservation time. Restaurant was very busy and therefore service was so so. Food was delicious.
Father daughter show date. Food and service was excellent. Best chicken marsala I have had in a long time. Jamie, our server was excellent and kept things moving. Was very busy and had to wait to get seated even with a reservation. But worth the wait. Still made the show on time.
We've been to Tarrant's many times and have always left feeling completely satisfied. We were early for our reservation, so, we sat at the bar and had a glass of wine and beer and the fried oysters appetizer. Delicious! Then, we got our booth and ordered a salad and entrees. I had
the opakapaka. It was delicious. My wife ordered the sheepshead. Too much cumin which
made it too spicy. I tried it and it was spicy. Other than that, a very pleasant experience.
We'll go back.
