Tarrant's Cafe Ratings and Reviews
went before the Richmond Ballet The Nutcracker, made reservations and was seated immediately. The server was superb, the food excellent served very hot from the kitchen. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and plan on going back again. There were four in my party and we all loved it!!!!!!!!!
Always delicious! The she crab soup never disappoints. Server was super friendly and gave us a hot brownie dessert for our birthday. They also held my left overs for me while I went to a show since I had used the free valet parking. Great spot to grab dinner before a show and November Theater.
Was actually excited to re-visit Tarants downtown as it had been awhile. Like the ambience of the place and the server (Jamie) was very nice and attentive. After his introduction and the nice bottle of red wine things were only average at best. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer was over cooked and it was drowned in buffalo sauce. Not very good. Crispy veggies and less sauce would have made it a good dish. My wife's caprese' was OK. The ham and vegetable soup that came with the entrée was tasty but the rockfish main course was only decent. The veggies again were over cooked with the entrée. Desert was a coconut pie and that was alright. For $100.00 I would have hoped for a little better meal. No complaints about the service but we will not be visiting again anytime soon what with the myriad of options for Richmond dining. Sorry Tarants but you need to pick up your game if you want to gain customers like me as a regular...
Tarrant’s has a really great energy! It’s located in a tired and mildly forbidding section of Richmond, and it’s an island of cool! The crowd is about 90% in their early 30s and younger which gives the place its buzz. The staff is friendly and helpful, despite how busy the place was on a Saturday night. Cocktails and beer selections were great. The food was quite good, but not spectacular. If I found myself in Richmond again, I would definitely return.
We had 7:00 reservations at Tarrant’s for a party of 6 on a Friday night, but not just any Friday night! Friday December 1st, which just happened to be Grand Illumination, First Friday, and the Junior League Cotillion Holly Ball, was the night we had our reservation. Tarrants is located in the heart of all that was going on that night, and as busy as they were, managed to pull it off seamlessly! The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. As a retired veteran of the restaurant business, I know this was no easy task! Thanks for a wonderful night, we will look forward to visiting again soon!
We went to pre-theater dinner at Tarrant's before seeing Mary Poppins at Virginia Rep Theater which is across the street. It is an old renovated drug store and we loved the decoration and ambiance. Sort of takes you back in time but with an upscale feel. The food was fantastic and wine selection was amazing. It was both kid-friendly and great for my wife and I who are foodies. The service was also very good. I can understand why this is definitely a local favorite.
Dined here for Thanksgiving this year and had a wonderful time. Service was impeccable at the bar and when we were seated. The atmosphere was fun and drinks were great. Must admit, the traditional dinner entree was disappointing...turkey was sliced paper-thin...an easy enough fix for the kitchen to make.
This was our second time at Tarrants. Love the overall ambiance of a vintage pharmacy. They make a great Old Fashioned, and the food is fantastic. Everything we ate was tasty and done just right. The best part of the visit, though, was the service. Despite the fact that the restaurant was slammed full of people, with more people waiting, the servers didn’t appear to be stressed. They were calm and laid back, but attentive. I remarked to my wife about that. I would have been a nervous wreck.
As always, Tarrant's does not disappoint! My sister was in town, and I have always wanted her to eat here with me. The food was great and the cocktails were perfect. If you are wanting a great dining experience in a cool atmosphere, this is the place to go. Big city friends, small town friends, any size place friends will be talking about Tarrant's when they get home.
We were running late for our reservation due to heavy traffic and had to leave by a certain time for a local show. We were seated immediately, served quickly.... The food was delicious! The atmosphere classic downtown/fan... and we loved it. We will return again.
I've been to Tarrants a number of times, but if this had been my first experience I might not be back. Five of us had to share one menu. The promised additional menus never came. Our fifth person had to sit in a chair at the end of a 4 person booth. She was constantly bumped into and having trays lifted over her head. The walkways aren't nearly wide enough to comfortably seat someone in. It was a very poor experience for her.
On the positive side, the food was good, as always, and a good value for the money.
Was under impressed by this restaurant. We were seated 30 minutes past our reservation time. There was no where to stand to wait for our table, the space was too crowded. The table we received was not truly big enough for 5 people. The service was extremely slow and getting our food was slow too.
Just completed the Richmond marathon and looked for a good meal to warm us up. This was a fantastic place to go. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was ideal for a post race celebration, and the service was superb. We will be coming back soon and hope to request our server by name.
Definitely will not be making a return visit here. And trust me, it doesn’t make a difference if you make a reservation, you’re still going to wait forever. I was extremely disappointed in the service and by the overall experience; not sure what all the fuss is about, the food was mediocre at best. Unless you like waiting an hour to be seated (with a reservation), having your food come out wrong and your sides not even come out at all (and when you inform your waiter of your missing food, he says “oh did you still want that?”), don’t waste your time or money.
This was my first time dinning with Tarrant. We were seated on time with our reservation, and the hostess was very polite and respectful. The waitress was the same and very informative and was able to make great recommendations for drinks and apps. The food was as good as its people there to say the least! We will be back as their menu is endless with great food to choose from. This is a must for all of people in Richmond to let their friends and family experience.
Our server was outstanding and made great food and wine recommendations. Corvina dish was fantastic and she crab soup was also very good. Noise level was very loud. I felt like I had to yell. We were at the restaurant from 5:45-7:30 so go earlier for a quiet meal. Overall a very good experience.
We are big fans of Tarrants. However, the last two times we have been there my husband, who loves fish and really would eat just about anything, was unhappy with the fish preparation. This is someone who is not the slightest bit particular, and this time he sent the mushy, tasteless fish back. Credit to Tarrants, they replaced it with a steak that was good but not what we would have expected from Tarrants.
The ambiance is lovely, the service was great, but for the price and the Tarrants reputation, I expected more. Too bad.
We both ordered the Restaurant Week menus and we were both disappointed. We have had lots of good meals rapt Tarrants, but , with the exception of my husband’s pumpkin cheesecake, everything was bland. We also mentioned to 2 staff members that we were cold due to come air blowing on our necks and no offer was made to move us or turn the temperature up.
