Tarrant's Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Tarrant’s was recommended to me by a friend for a great place for lunch before the theatre. It didn’t disappoint. Making reservations online was extremely easy and I received a reminder the day before. Our group was seated immediately and service was prompt. The hardest part was deciding what to have from the very enticing and extensive menu! It was a bit crowded and noisy but that didn’t detract from our experience. I would definitely eat there again. Thanks!
We dine here fairly often and are never disappointed. The food is always good and pricing is reasonable. Service never let’s us down and the valet parking service is a plus as downtown parking is tough to find. We will be back again soon and highly recommend Tarrant’s.
We went for a New Years Eve dinner date. As we were both leaving we both mentioned how we felt rushed so that the restaurant could sit more people. We didn't want to order our main course meals until our appetizer came out so we could enjoy that before our dinner was rushed. But we were told that we couldn't do that.
Tarrant’s always exceeds our expectations! I’ve become somewhat addicted to their She Crab Soup and the sweet glazed pastries they give you (if you’re there for brunch).
Located in what once was an original pharmacy from early Richmond, Tarrant’s provides a uniquely warm environment that is perfect for a family meal or a date.
No need to make reservations. End with reservations we waited over 20 minutes for a table for 2. Alcoholic drinks were subpar as they did not taste anything like the menu described. After our appetizers, we noticed other tables got bread, we did not. Some items were under cooked (scallops risotto and calamari) and everything seemed a bit bland for our taste. Doesn’t seem like the best of neighborhoods, as a homeless drunk man was helped into an ambulance. Drove over 50 miles to try this “special” spot. Not worth it.
Delicious food, we always love Tarrants. The large menu always makes it easy to bring anyone with us. Unfortunately the Saturday before Christmas was one crazy, busy night for the restaurant and it took us over an hour from when we ordered our entrée to receiving our food. Our sweet waitress was constantly moving from table to table but we had to ask constantly for water refills, new drinks, etc. Would not deter us from returning, just made for a long meal after drinks, appetizers and then waiting to eat. Overall, recommend this restaurant to anyone!
We were there at 1245 for a 2 pm show. Did not get food til 1:40 and some of it never arrived but still got charged. Mgr offered $15 gift card, which we appreciated. He said to allow 1:45-2 hrs on theater days. Been there many times. This time they were overwhelmed
Bad experience. We were told they had valet. That was not the case when we arrived. Reservation was for 12:30 on a Wednesday afternoon and we arrived on time. Seated right away and gave drink and food order right away. 1 full hour later and food had still not arrived. Waitress was very sweet and kept checking. The table behind us was not as lucky and their waitress was rude and kept saying the kitchen was out of her control. Eventually we had to leave without even eating or ever seeing any food because we were going to be late to our next appointment. Will not return.
My husband and I ate here after seeing the Richmond Ballet's Nutcracker performance recently. We like the variety of food and the atmosphere. Our server was friendly and helpful, but it take a fairly long time to get our meals which were good. Apparently there was a group of 20 that had to be served before us. It won't keep us from returning.
Everything was great. My husband’s sweet potato fries came out cold, but his salmon was hot. They took the fries back and brought him new hot ones that were delicious and also gave us each free dessert to make up for it. They went above and beyond, in my opinion and we were very happy
It was extremely crowded and even though I reserved a table through open table that wasn't really paid attention to. They actually had to give me cream for my coffee in a condiment cup - no cream urns available, but our waiter was inventive and good, but the food - three salads and something cooked took a very long time to come out, I think they were overwhelmed.
went before the Richmond Ballet The Nutcracker, made reservations and was seated immediately. The server was superb, the food excellent served very hot from the kitchen. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and plan on going back again. There were four in my party and we all loved it!!!!!!!!!
Always delicious! The she crab soup never disappoints. Server was super friendly and gave us a hot brownie dessert for our birthday. They also held my left overs for me while I went to a show since I had used the free valet parking. Great spot to grab dinner before a show and November Theater.
Was actually excited to re-visit Tarants downtown as it had been awhile. Like the ambience of the place and the server (Jamie) was very nice and attentive. After his introduction and the nice bottle of red wine things were only average at best. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer was over cooked and it was drowned in buffalo sauce. Not very good. Crispy veggies and less sauce would have made it a good dish. My wife's caprese' was OK. The ham and vegetable soup that came with the entrée was tasty but the rockfish main course was only decent. The veggies again were over cooked with the entrée. Desert was a coconut pie and that was alright. For $100.00 I would have hoped for a little better meal. No complaints about the service but we will not be visiting again anytime soon what with the myriad of options for Richmond dining. Sorry Tarants but you need to pick up your game if you want to gain customers like me as a regular...
Tarrant’s has a really great energy! It’s located in a tired and mildly forbidding section of Richmond, and it’s an island of cool! The crowd is about 90% in their early 30s and younger which gives the place its buzz. The staff is friendly and helpful, despite how busy the place was on a Saturday night. Cocktails and beer selections were great. The food was quite good, but not spectacular. If I found myself in Richmond again, I would definitely return.
