Went for a birthday lunch on our way to Charlottesville. Service was great and went beyond expectations when young lady found out we had a birthday in our group. Loved the extensive and interesting sandwich menu. We will go back
Had a great brunch with my Mom on Sunday. Food was great and service was very good. Very good experience and would definitely return.
This is our preferred pre-theater restaurant. This night it was a disaster. We had a 6:15 p.m. reservation and an 8:00 p.m. theater performance. We arrived before our reservation time. The hostess clicked our name off the iPad reservation list and then added our name to a list on a clipboard. We waited and waited. Several parties arrived after us and for some reason were immediately seated. We were not seated until 6:40 p.m., 25 minutes after our reservation time. Then to top that we were seated in what appeared to have been a storage closet or area just outside the kitchen.
We were eventually served and as we were entering the theater they were announcing for those in the lobby to immediately take their seats. This did not make for a pleasant and relaxing evening.
While I rated our service poor, that was based on the service at the front end. Once our server discovered our problem, he made every effort to speed our order along.
We also thought the food was not up to what we have come to expect at Tarrants. My wife's lasagna appeared to be something directly out of a frozen dinner package. My meatload appeared to be a pre-packaged item, not fresh.
While I seldom request changes to a meal as listed on the menu, I did need to this time as I am on a special diet. My server and the kitchen were very accommodating.
Tarrants is one of my favorite restaurants.
My only complaint is that we were seated in one of the very worst booths for a crowded Saturday night- the place where the end of the bar and the narrow entrance corridor converge. It resulted in a lot of activity beside our table. Not ideal for a quiet meal with conversation.
Hope this was just an off day but we were very disappointed. Have been to Tarrant’s many times but this was a first time for early lunch. First, the service/kitchen was extremely slow. It took over 45 minutes to get our meals, which were mostly sandwiches. Our waitress never checked back during this time. Finally we flagged down the “manager” and then our food appeared.
Then the food itself was not hot, and the BLT’s were inedible due to the really fat bacon. Had to pull that off. So had a LT. Overall I rate this visit as poor.
The crab cake was the worst I ever had. Tasted like a cheap frozen one from a grocery store. No crab.
Ordered the steak cooked rare, served medium to medium well.
Wifes food was good, fish with crab.
My fourth and last visit.
We went for a post theater dinner with family and out of town friends. Very much appreciated their willingness to customize items for several members of our party. Food was excellent. The garlic bread was amazing.
Prompt service, attentive and professional. Quality of food good, will definitely be going back.
Excellent from the minute we arrived. Although we had made a reservation, our table wasn't ready so we had a dink at the bar. Great bartender: personable, great customer service with lots of knowledge. Our waitress was great: attentive and professional and food was great (be sure to order the She-Crab soup, not to be missed!). We will be back to Tarrant's the next time we are in Richmond!
As always, the food was great. Best customer service I have found anywhere. We had to wait 15 minutes for reservation seating and they comped all our drinks. This was dinner for a birthday and they surprised us with a wonderful birthday dessert. It's no wonder they are full most of the time.
The entire experience was superb. Chelsea was friendly, knowledgeable and a wonderful waitress. We showed up early for our reservation and greatly appreciated how accommodating the hostess was for getting us a table. Thank you!
Too much breading on the Oysters. Usually they are pretty good.
Went for Sunday brunch prior to play, a little noisy and crowded but food and service were very good. I would recommend and I will definately go again!
Had to wait 30 mins past my reservation time. Restaurant was very busy and therefore service was so so. Food was delicious.
Father daughter show date. Food and service was excellent. Best chicken marsala I have had in a long time. Jamie, our server was excellent and kept things moving. Was very busy and had to wait to get seated even with a reservation. But worth the wait. Still made the show on time.
We've been to Tarrant's many times and have always left feeling completely satisfied. We were early for our reservation, so, we sat at the bar and had a glass of wine and beer and the fried oysters appetizer. Delicious! Then, we got our booth and ordered a salad and entrees. I had
the opakapaka. It was delicious. My wife ordered the sheepshead. Too much cumin which
made it too spicy. I tried it and it was spicy. Other than that, a very pleasant experience.
We'll go back.
First time and was impressed from the valet service, the ease of reservation, great service and a wonderful ambiance for a date night!
As always, Tarrant's is an outstanding restaurant with excellent service, bar selection, and of course, food.
Tarrent's west is the perfect restaurant is you are attending any of the shows in Richmond. The food is so good, menu has lots of options, good ingredients - good wine and cocktails! Love the atmosphere! It is always busy so get your reservations early!
Made reservation for lunch/brunch before going to a show with my 10 year old son and his grandma. The ambiance was beautiful and the food was amazing. We all opted for brunch items and thoroughly enjoyed it!! The food took a little longer to get there than we had hoped, but overall it was a wonderful brunch! Highly recommend and look forward to going back with my husband.
Maybe brunch isn't the best meal on which to rate this restaurant but we did have brunch on Sunday. The service was super slow, one order came oiur completely wrong and the others were cold and salty. We sent one back And waited and waited. No coffee or water refills without flagging down the server who seemed to be everywhere else in the restaurant. Truthfully, with all the amazing restaurants in Richmond I'm not so sure we'll hurry back to Tarrant's on our next visit
Jess was server - very attentive, knew menu well and every food/drink suggestion was fabulous. Looking forward to my next visit.
Our reservation was at 8:00 and our dinner was very slow coming out of the kitchen. Our waitress was very apologetic and polite, but I thought for what we ordered - crab salad, rueben, chicken salad, shimp & grits, and chicken parm - couldn't have taken 45 minutes. She said we were waiting on the chicken parm. In the meantime, our guests had two expensive drinks : (
Not pleased this trip. Food was average. The rock fish portion was generous but was covered with so much topping you could not taste the fish. The shrimp and grits was just okay. The food has been better. 4 adults and were put in a booth.........it was way too crowded. Asked for a table - none could be provided. Unsatisfactory seating. We were comped drinks from the bar but still the entire meal could not be enjoyed because of the table conditions.
Consistently good. Wait staff is perfecto! Will return again and again and again.... well, you know!
Not their best night. The food just wasn't up to par.
Went to RVA Pops
Always a pleasant experience to eat at Tarrants. The food is delicious & the staff is always friendly and exceptional! Love it!
