Over many years I've spent several birthdays and brought out-of-towners to Tarbell's. They never disappoint. It's a wonderful place for fine dining for just about any occasion. Quite a unique selection on the menu for the seasonal and daily items. Not a drinker but I'm told the wine selection is excellent. The waitrons and staff are always friendly and smiling. Prices are right in line with the very high quality cuisine, atmosphere and service.
I will be back!
Don't miss the Cheesecake! Never tasted anything like it!!
Food was excellent. My haddock was superlative . My work ‘s chicken was awesome.
Great meal. We’d return and recommend.
I had the ribbon pasta with sausage and it was wonderful along with the beet salad. Reasonable amount of food great wine. It was on a Saturday night and the noise level was way too loud .
Not sure how you would fix that
The service is very nice. The menu is old schooled, like most of the restaurants in Phoenix district. The food is ok but just not have the Unami to impress us.
Everything from food to service range from excellent to phenomenal. The pepper steak is truly outstanding. The wine list is pricey but if you look closely you can find an outstanding wine at a reasonable restaurant price.
Delectable food, personalized servings (ex. salads shared, two entrees [Bolognese and meat balls] served as halves to two people), attentive but not hovering service which meant we could savor our meals, quiet enough even on a bustling night to converse with tablemates without shouting. An outstanding experience from start to finish.
We loved our waiter Allen - he was genuinely nice, not to make a great tip, but just a very nice person and great waiter too. Very pleased with everything, the food was awesome as usual !!
Wonderful evening! Service was above and beyond, every dish delicious. The cheesecake was absolutely amazing! They made a special effort to honor our “double anniversary” (celebrating ours and my parents’), which was delightful and a surprise! It was my first visit, and I hope to go back!
Everything was very good
The entrees were a mix of unique updates of comfort-type dishes and creative seasonal presentations. Our whole group was satisfied with our meals. The service was well paced and the vibe was comfortable while being a little special.
Tarbell's just keeps getting better. Our server was great, the food was fantastic and it is
always a fun atmosphere.
We love Tarbells! It is consistently fantastic food. Our server never brought our appetizers. Small hitch. We did my really need that much food anyway 😂
Perfect gin martinis, beautiful plates and, sadly, not a lot of deep flavor. We hadn't been here in 21 years and won't be back. Too many other local places with more interesting and tastier food.
We were in Phoenix for our anniversary, and went to Tarbell's for our anniversary dinner on a Monday night. We chose Tarbell's because many of the restaurants that we were considering are closed on Mondays. Overall the food was very good, and I would recommend it for everyday dinning. However, I would not recommend it for a special occasion. It was very loud and lacked the ambiance for special occasions. Also the service seemed rushed. The minute we put down our forks, our empty plates were whisked away and the next course arrived. And the waiter was there with the dessert menu while we still had at least a half glass of wine. While I appreciate efficiency, I also appreciate a few minutes between courses. I don't like feeling that I'm being rushed out the door.
Have not been to Tarbell’s in many years. Still as good as I remember. Happy to see the restaurant was busy, service & food was great. Enjoyed a very nice evening.
We dine at Tarbell's at least one time per month with friends. It's our "go to" place when we have guests. The food is always great, and it's a very lively, fun place.
This time, even though I made the reservations one month in advance, and asked for a table on the east side of the restaurant (because we think it's quieter), we were seated on the west side of the restaurant and it was PACKED! We were packed into a corner booth, and we could hardly hear ourselves think! It was actually not very enjoyable.
Several times when I mentioned this to the hostess, she pretty much discounted it. I know there was nothing she could really do, but she could have made me, THE CUSTOMER, feel a little better about it. After all, I made the reservations 4 weeks ago...AND I asked for the east side of the restaurant when I made the res. I would have expected a little better treatment from the hostess, given the caliber of this restaurant. Very disappointed.
Parking is an adventure - bring your old car and trust it to the valet. The place was far too noisy, with too many "look at me" conversations trying to outshout one another. Our server was disinterested, or simply lacking in personality. He took off with my wife's unfinished drink. We asked to split the check and he didn't. On the plus side, the food was amazing. But there are tons of other places whose food is also amazing.
Tarbell’s was highly recommended by our concierge at the Biltmore. We wanted a special dinner on our last night in Phoenix. We had reservations and were given a high-top table in the bar area. We were told we would have to wait 30 minutes for a table in the main dining area.
The beet salad appetizer was delicious. I ordered scallops, my husband ordered the burger and fries and brussel sprouts to share. My food came lukewarm and the brussel sprouts were cool and pretty much tasteless. The scallops didn’t have much flavor either. On a bright note, the service was pretty good.
Tarbell’s always delivers great food with good service. Servers are menu knowledgeable and willing to adjust dishes to your liking.
We return to Tarbell’s during our annual visit to Arizona. We are never disappointed. The delightful menu options, the terrific service, the option for small portions, great wine list—need I go on?
One of our favorite restaurants; we will return at least once more before we head back to colder climates.
Amazing food and recommendations true to point! Pricey but well worth it. Just wish it was closer to home!
Service and food incredible! Service was so exceptional that when our Uber wouldn’t connect, a waitress ordered a car on her account. That’s service !
Canme there with higher expectations and it did not disappoint! Everything from the food drinks and service was simply outstanding
Had a dinner reservation for 4 people at 8:30 on Saturday night. We had to wait 35 minutes to be seated. That's just bad management. The hostess didn't offer anything for the major inconvenience but did buy our drinks after we asked them to after their suggested 25 minute delay became a 35 minute delay. They did bring a couple starters to the table to get us going, but the overall staff was indifferent and food was so-so. I had the daily fish special that was Halibut. It looked pretty but was fairly tasteless and perhaps a little overcooked. Everything else was just OK too. I had high expectations of a good meal, but was really disappointed. No one will be running back any time soon.
The service was very good, but when my guest and I were enjoying dessert and our wine I felt rushed out the door. We still had a decent amount of dessert left on the plate and we were asked three times if we were done. We were only there for under an hour and a half and as a fellow server that is a perfect amount of time for a meal considering how much we paid for it. The scallops were excellent and the wine list was very good. Overall it was a good experience, but very pricey.
Our go to place for neighborhood, old school - classic dining. Not a millennial in sight - it’s perfect. No one next to you looking at their phones, people are actually having table conversation. No one next to you cursing, talking on their phone, over served ... Go to for good comfort food, wine, up lifting atmosphere and excellent service with no servings of aggression. Thank you Tarbell’s.
Had been awhile since we dined at Tarbell's and it was a memorable experience. Though pricey and a bit loud, the food and service were exemplary.
We had the halibut with risotto and it was amazing!
have dined here before and dinner was always good..super cocktails creative dishes and a great wine list, however this time very disappointing I ordered a lamb ragu which looked like dog food and was ordinary at best I probably will return as an excellent choice for a business/client meal I would stay away form the lamb ragu service was very good
Great Valentine's Day experience.
We usually really love Tarbell's for special occasions, and have been there for Valentine's dinner in years prior, but this year lacked something. The service/server was functional, but not warm; we didn't feel extra special. My husband ordered the seafood chowder and the mussels were overcooked. His meal was just ok. Usually everything is great. Other than that, the food was quite good. Slightly disappointing overall; however we will return to Tarbell's nonetheless.
The candy bacon salad with the poached egg was delicious. The yam gnocchi with lump crab was tasty. Good wine list. I would return next time in town.
Tarbell's never fails to satisfy. Mark and this team take great care with everything, with every step of the hospitality process from food procurement all the way to the little cookie every guest receives as the hostess or manager says "goodbye." Diver scallops are not unique, but the cauliflower grits upon which they are served is. "The Meatball" is 10 ounces of ground sirloin on a bed of spaghetti that enjoys a decidedly Genoese take on marinara sauce. Always great. We'll be back.
Our service the entire evening was impeccable – the wine glasses seemed to refill themselves all evening long – and it was the perfect balance of attentiveness. It was the finest meal and dining experience I’ve had since I moved to Phoenix.
Tarbell’s food and service is amazing. The staff, the server and everyone was friendly, professional knew the wine and food menu perfectly. Loved it all, the only issue is the small dining area on the west side of the restaurant seems little lacking in style, but overall one of my favorites.
Amazing food every time we go! Great service, and it never takes long to get our food! Deffinetly will be going back.
Amazing service, excellent mules with their house made ginger beer and outstanding food.
We just love Tarbell’s. It’s one of our favorite spots for dinner dates. We celebrated my husband’s birthday. As always, the food was delicious. I had the fish feature (halibut) and my husband loved the duck entree. They spoiled us with a yummy cheesecake dessert as well. We will be back soon!!
Always one of the best dining experiences anywhere in the country. Exceptional food, the friendliest staff at an appropriate price.
