Tarantelli’s is located on Second Street, just one block from Front Street and in walking distance to the Cape Fear River. The restaurant and event venue is located in the historic district of downtown Wilmington. This lively area spans 230-plus blocks and is home to some of the best bars, restaurants, churches, architecture, and selection of fine art. There are several parking facilities nearby, but you can also reach Tarantelli's year round via horse drawn trolley and carriage, river taxi, trolley cars, or on foot.

    The inspiration behind this restaurant was drawn from our grandfather, Anthony "Tony" Salvatore Tarantelli ("Papa") and our grandmother Mabel Tarantelli. Both Tony and Mabel believed that home cooked food brought family together. Our Papa's love for Italian food came from his father, Salvatore Tarantelli, who was born in the Abruzzo region of Italy in the province of L’Aquila. It is here that Tony began to appreciate Italian cuisine at its purest. Both Tony and Mabel were amazing cooks and deserve the credit for passing on many of our family recipes that we now have the pleasure and privilege to share with you.

    The spaghetti meals were extremely salty and hot to the point of steaming. The service included a 12 minute wait for a server to appear the first time.

    Our waiter, Tyler was fantastic. Our drinks were tasty and the meals were delicious. We sat at a high top table in the bar area. I was afraid it might be noisy, but it wasn’t at all (at 6:00pm on a Saturday during busy season). The background music was pleasant and soft enough that we could hear each other without raising our voices. Really enjoyed the whole experience.

    We had a 630 reservation, we got there at 6. There was a sign outside “walk in’s welcome” and so many open tables. The hostess said she’d need to seat us closer to our reservation time. We waited and after about 10 minutes I asked her, if they are accepting walk in’s and have that many open tables, why do we have to wait until the reservation time. She changed our reservation to 615 and sat us. We were our servers only table outside, and he would literally come out 1 door, walk by (and talk AS he was walking by, NOT stopping) and go back in the other door. Then, he brought out 3 of the 4 orders “because they were ready”, but the 4th was still “being made”. So, 3 of us sat there letting our food get cold for 8-10 minutes while we waited for the other person’s food to come out. Never bring out part of the tables order, it’s rude to eat when other people don’t have their food. I asked for salt and he said “well, we’re really busy inside so it might be a little bit”. Excuse me, sir, but just because we are outside does not mean we get less attention. Also. You’re accepting walk in’s and still have several open tables, so you aren’t THAT busy. We’ve been here before and had great experiences, but this one left me very disappointed.

    Very good food , average ambiance and for such an expensive place to dine I would of liked more comfortable chairs(not flat wood) and nicer tables with a table cloth or better looking tables than they have. Food was prepared excellently.
