The food is over the top great! Creative and delicious. Service is just right. Don’t have enough great things to say about Taranta for a large group or intimate dinner.
Excellent blend of Peruvian and Italian dishes with a flair. It provides a unique and welcome variation of the overall excellent Italian food so characteristic of the North End restaurants.
Outstanding, creative, Italian/Peruvian fusion cooking. Highly recommended. Warm and cozy atmosphere and great service too!
Having moved to an apartment from the suburbs to near the North End several months ago, we have been checking off North End restaurants since September. Recently we loved the newly opened Monica’s and the established Tratoria Il Panino. For our birthday celebration we selected a restaurant that had been suggested by good friends...Taranta. Despite a Nor’easter squall outside the dining area was comfortable and intimate. The waiter was quite knowledgeable in his suggestions and had great descriptions of the entrees and drinks. He even showed us a photo of a huge Amazon river fish just like the filet we ordered. Love the fusion of Peruvian and Italian! Our cocktails were the best I’ve had in the North End and elsewhere in Boston. Our entrees were espresso encrusted tenderloin and the special fish (which I can’t recall the name of but started with a P). Service was attentive yet allowed us to enjoy our meal and linger. Unfortunately the espresso machine wasn’t working, but the chocolate lava cake was perfect and included was a candle to celebrate our birthdays. All in all Taranta is a “10” and it’s our new favorite North End/Boston restaurant.
We had a work dinner at Taranta and enjoyed our time very much. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for fantastic Italian/Peruvian cuisine!
My wife and I had a lovely Valentine’s Day dinner at Taranta. Food good. Fun time. Nice people. Would do again.
Skip Valentine's Day Dinner. Taranta normally has a great menu with fair prices but they, like so many in the North End, take advantage of diners of Valentine's Day. The atmosphere was decent, it's a great restaurant but the normal white tablecloths were covered in white paper, no crayons in sight. The tables were all set for 2, but they were stacked too close for comfort and we ended up hardly being able to talk and enjoy each other.
Our server was polite, timely, and overall very helpful so he still received a full 20%+ tip despite the overall experience. The main complaint was the food. Pre-Fixed menu looked great at first, good variety and quality ingredients. The end result disappointed. The Beef Tenderloin had clearly been par-cooked to speed up service. You could see where the cooking twine had been wrapped. Normally I wouldn't complain about a cooking method if the end result was decent. I ended up with a gray, overcooked exterior that was difficult to chew wrapped around a completely raw, not medium rare, interior. The sides on the entree clearly were cooked in mass, like a catered meal. Desserts were decent but overall it came nowhere near the value for $70 per person.
Taranta is still a good restaurant and I am torn leaving this review, but I don't want other diners expecting a romantic night out to be disappointed as I was.
Nice place, cozy atmosphere. Great flavorful food, interesting menu. Baby octopus appetizer was delicious. Pleasant ,attentive service.
The waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and wine. Really enjoyed the dishes we ordered and the overall experience.
Wonderful service and the food was outstanding.
This was the best meal I’ve had in I don’t know how long. The gnocchi were absolutely delicious. The menu is at once familiar and creative and every dish is thoughtful and fun. We’ll definitely be coming back and recommending to others. Take the time to read about the chef on their website, great story and great ethos for the restaurant. Very impressive place all around.
Creative mix of Peruvian and Italian cuisine. Great wine list, fun cocktails (all Pisco based). Paiche (Amazon river fish) was SO GOOD. Friends had mushroom and truffle pasta, casava root gnocchi, sweet potato ravioli, and steak. Everyone LOVED their meal.
The food is always amazing here and the service was incredible. Our waiter was very attentive without being intrusive. Great suggestions on wine as well. A great creative menu!
As always, we had a delicious meal! We celebrated my son's birthday here and not only had enjoyed the food but the company with no rushing. Waiter was attentive and spot on!
Dinner with Tony
The food is always outstanding and the service and location are excellent.
Wonderful, creative dishes in Boston's North End. Taranta isn't your typical red sauce Italian place. We've dined there several times and always enjoyed the food and service. It's a bit pricey, but worth it for special celebrations.
Went to this restaurant twice in a week as my son had looked up the reviews and cuisine. Enjoyed the food immensely, from the homemade tagliatelle with pomodoro sauce to the lamb shank, fabulous. Great atmosphere, small, quiet and private. We missed meeting the Chef who wasn't on site when we were there. He has a well-deserved reputation.
Made a reservation for New Years Eve dinner. Food and service were exceptional! They might have crammed a couple too many tables in, though. That said, for an extremely busy night, out party was very impressed with the quality of the food as well as the service. It was our first time to Taranta, and I honestly don’t know how we hadn’t heard of, or been to this place. We will go back!
Love this place. We moved away from Boston 3.5 years ago but were back for the Holidays and made it a point to visit it again!
Taranta is always a go-to for me, no matter the occasion. The staff is wonderful and the food never disappoints. Salut!
We had dinner with friends at Taranta before a show at the Improv Asylum. I had to change the reservation from 3 to 8! They accommodated us with a beautiful table on the second floor. The menu has something for everyone and I had trouble deciding what to order. I will just have to go back! Our server was pleasant and professional. The food was served piping hot which in this weather was most welcome! People have lots of choices in the North End, but I would put this place on your list! Happy New Year!
Very interesting spin on Italian food! We all had interesting plates! Experimental and modest but really lovely! Great Christmas Eve dinner!
delicious unique food in a beautiful exposed-brick atmosphere. The Amazon fish and the beef tenderloin truly delicious.
Overall/ very good. Tasty food and good service. We enjoyed our meal.
We've been to Taranta a number of times and have never been disappointed. Our meal on this visit was as expected - outstanding in every respect. Service was professional, conscientious and attentive. We're already planning our next visit to experience different offerings on Tranta's interesting menu.
We ate at Taranta with friends who were in visiting from out of town. We were seated right away, and our waiter was kind enough to suggest we put our food orders in all at once because the kitchen was so busy.
-The mussels appetizer was worth it.
-Unique, well-executed dishes. The Italian-Peruvian fusion is a nice change of pace from other North End fare.
-The wine list is good.
-The chicken was a little overcooked and dry.
-They were out of several of the wines on the list.
-The tables were packed very close together.
Nevertheless, a solid staple. I'd return again.
Lovely staff. Great food. Restaurant was at capacity because of the holiday season so service was a bit slot. Will definitely return and recommend to others.
Cozy atmosphere, friendly and helpful waitstaff, inventive and delicious menu choices. The wine list perfectly compliments the menu offerings. A delightful alternative to the usual heavy, traditional North End fare.
Taranta impresses no matter what I order at this restaurant. I've tried several dishes on several occasions, and each time I am delighted with the inventiveness of the dishes, which also satisfy like comfort food. I've enjoyed the pork chop, the lamb ragu with gnocchi, and most recently the stuffed chicken breast with homemade mozarella and spinach and a Peruvian olive butter over a crispy polenta. Their passionfruit cocktail with prosecco also stands in as dessert.
Solid meal with good service, but something was missing. The pasta was thick and the sauce was a bit sloppy. Wanted this to be a cleaner experience w most interesting flavors given the Peruvian influences. Won’t go back.
We were very excited to try Taranta for the first time on Saturday. Obviously, the reviews are quite good and the chef is a friend of a friend situation. Hence, the restaurant was recommended to us and we chose to book our holiday friendship dinner there this year. The restaurant is charming and the ambiance is nice. We booked via OpenTable 2 weeks in advance and we were able to score a 6:45 reservation which was also nice. That being said, after dinner the six of us walked out in agreement that Taranta was a "one and done" restaurant for us. First, we were seated upstairs by the window which was very cold (although the view for half of the table was very nice). The hostess agreed to move us downstairs and our waitress asked why we were moving. When we noted that it was quite chilly, she muttered under her breath that they COULD HAVE turned the heat up. Whatever. So we were reseated. The menu provided options that suited everyone and we were all excited for our meals. However, all of the meat dishes that our table ordered were less than flavorful. The presentation was beautiful, but the meals themselves were just "meh". Further, when our waitress asked if we were interested in ordering a drink prior to our meal, one of our party members asked if they had a full bar. The waitress replied that they did NOT have a full bar, and that we could only order beer or wine. On our trip to the washroom however, we found that there are indeed many options outside of beer and wine on display by the bar. My friend just wanted a Campari and soda which could have been easily accommodated. Our hopes for this restaurant and our experience were high, but we walked away disappointed.
Great meal and great service! My kids said it was the highlight of the weekend in Boston.
Delicious meal - unusual Italian food with the South American influences.
Glad we went, would definitely try again if back in Boston!
They brought the wrong entree for a member of the party. Apparently the kitchen messed up. My friend felt there just wasn’t enough of an apology and an attempt to fix the error.
Taranta never disappoints. A highly creative menu fusing Peruvian and Southeen Italian staples. You can't go wrong with anything, but everyone has to try the homemade Yucca Gnocchi with Ragu Verde at least once! A good wine selection to accompany the meal makes Taranto the perfect spot for a date or get together.
Tried taranta for the first time on Saturday and we will definitely be back. Very unique dishes - not your typical italian cuisine. We tried, the Paiche, the Chicken and the Fusili - all were outstanding. The restaurant itself is cozy and romantic, and quiet enough so that you can hear people talk. The service was also top notch and our waiter made great recommendations.
Incredible food in a cozy, up-scale setting. Would be great for a date.
