This is, frankly, the best place we go in Boston. Every time a friend is in town, we go to Taranta. The food is fabulous. The people are fabulous. The whole place is fabulous.
I was in Boston for a couple of day, our server at the hotel recommended the restaurant. He described it as a Peruvian-Italian restaurant. We didn’t know what to expect but it sounding interesting. What a find!!! I absolutely LOVE the food. This was one of my best meals ever. Come hungry and with an open mind. The combination of the two cuisines is amazing.
Tremendous food. We were very happy with both of our entrees and the mussels appetizer was amazing.
Food and ambiance were very nice and our waiter was great. The only drawback was that, even though it was a Friday night, the place emptied out at about 9:00 and the kitchen and waitstaff came out from the back and occupied some of the tables next to us in the dining room while we were having our dessert. They had large paper bags and clothing piled on their tables like they were waiting for their rides home. They were not rude or overly loud but it definitely changed the ambiance at the end of our meal.
I had the lobster crab ravioli with a marscapone and cherry tomato sauce and it was outstanding. The service was great as well.
We have a fantastic 14th Anniversary dinner!
My brother and I went right at opening on a Saturday evening--5:30pm. I had been once before on a busy Friday evening as well. Service is great, very friendly, accommodating, attentive and quick. Food is AWESOME, salmon is amazing, same with pasta dishes. No complaints and will definitely go back soon! Great for when friends are visiting.
We always love Taranta, but last night's dinner was spectactacular. There were four of us at the table and everyone was delighted with the appetizers, main courses and deserts. We have orderd from the menu as well as ordered the specials and have loved each one of them. The chicken, the fish and the pasta are all unique and delicious!
What a special restaurant Taranta is...
Great service- nice wine list - have the mussels- small quiet - will return
I was very excited about this place, but sadly, my pasta was over cooked. Of the 5 different plates we had, only 2 were good.
Great food and service! Will likely be back fot that amazonian fish dish!
A always, the food was excellent, with some unique mix of ingredients -- a little touch of "Latin" (Peru) on the Italian is fun, unique, and delicious. And the mix of South American and Italian wines works amazingly well.
First time at Taranta and well worth it. I've eaten at a lot of North End restaurants and the food here is definitely unique. Not traditional Southern Italian, no lasagna with red sauce here. My friend and I split a pasta meal that was a handmade fusilli cooked to pre- al dente and then baked in parchment paper with whole tomatoes, smoked peppers, spices, pancetta. Absolutely heavenly. We then had the daily Paiche Amazone, a sustainably raised white fish, perfectly cooked over thinly sliced scalloped potatoes, with herbs and wilted greens. Melted in your mouth. Our waiter was amazing, very attentive with great recommendations, including an Italian white wine, Grechetto, from Umbria, dry, minerally, with interesting banana notes on the nose. A perfect pairing with our meal. Really fabulous. I'll be back!
We always come here when in boston. Our wonderful server recommended her favorite dish, steered us right with appetizers, and we were extremely happy with all!
Our food was outstanding! Even the simple Mista salad was very tasty and lightly dressed. The Peruvian fish special was a 5+, as was the chicken - innovate blend of Peruvian/Italian flavors and ingredients. Filling portions. And many of there wines are biodynamic. Spacious, with outdoor feeling. Service was the right blend of observant and non-obtrusive.
Excellent preparation and excellent dishes. The muscles appetizer may just be the best in the world. Sweet and savory muscles. Also recommend lobster ravioli and tenderloin. Absolutely delicious been here multiple times on visits to Boston and never disappoints.
We were celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary. What a great choice. Great food, great service and a fantastic atmosphere.
This was my second time eating at Taranta -- first time with my family. I find it consistently good with a slightly unique menu for the North End. This was also the first time I had eaten there with the windows open to the street -- the ambiance was wonderful.
When we visited your restaurant , I left a message on OPEN TABLE, it's my wife's birthday. NOTHING, not even a happy birthday. SORRY
Food ok not worth going back
Will stick to Federal Hill in Providence
Unique Menu. Terrific service, the waiter was very helpful in describing the dishes. I had the Peruvian fish and it was great.
i made arrangements for a party of 12 for 7:45pm on sat. (son's college grad. night). i emailed the restaurant in advance, and i got a phone call confirming the booking (since it was a large party, i was happy they could oblige). all 12 arrived on time. we then waited for 1/2 hour for a table. it was raining out, and they really don't have a bar (on first floor) to wait. there was a party lingering after dinner that they were waiting for to leave so they could pull their table together with the next one over to make a big table for 12. one of the waitresses told one of my guests she should go outside to wait (in the rain? when they were 1/2 hour late?), and not in a friendly way.
having said that, the waiter we had seemed nice enough. the food was very good. we had shared antipasto for the table (2 plates) and the baby octopus. plenty of variety on the antipasto and we had a gluten free guest and a vegetarian in our group. recommend both starters.
everyone liked their entrees including: trout (and they were very accommodating to my guest who is GF and dairy free), amazon fish dish, ravioli. all served hot.
at the end of the evening (at this point there was no one waiting for tables, it was clearing out) some of the guests went to 'mike's pastry' while the rest of us finished up with coffee. when they came back with the boxes our previously nice waiter was pretty mean to my 16 year old daughter. yes, she should NOT have started eating pastry from somewhere else- i was mortified about it, but the whole attitude at that point seemed like they couldn't get us out of there fast enough.
so points for the food. there were several other large parties there, but i think you might do better with the staff in a smaller party. doubt i'd go back, but the food was good.
I have always recommended this place to friends, but not so sure after my visit Saturday night.
The food was excellent as always, but the waitress was cool and dismissive. Made no eye contact, never smiled and was very curt & condescending in response to questions about the menu or wine list. So in the end, great food is not enough to make up for a negative server.
The obvious goal was to turn over tables, not to create a pleasant dining experience.
My family will find another place to dine in Boston's North End, there are plenty of competitors with friendly and polite staff.
Orrechiette and gnocchi both tremendous. Caprese salad also excellent. Attentive service due to small dining room and day of dining (Monday). Southern Italian and Peruvian mix is a good one -will definitely return!
The food was delightfully delicious. I personally appreciated the interesting interpretation of classic Italian dishes, well executed, no pretense. The pasta was perfecto. Service excellent. I agree with all positive reviews before mine!
One of my favorite restaurants in the North End. Modern Italian with a Peruvian twist.. aka dishes that are mouth watering !!
Terrible for vegetarians. Food very disappointing. You can make much better pasta at home. Certainly not worth the money.
Generally a pleasant experience
Service and food - need work Not pleased with the high prices and overall quality of the food. There are other better options around the area
We had a nice table on main floor for our anniversary. Woman who pours water, parm cheese, etc was top notch, excellent! Waitress was only ok, seemed she was doing us a favor by waiting on us.
The drinks are limited, no typical soft drinks or juices, waitress seemed annoyed that we ordered sprite and an orange juice at first vs sparkling water w/guava.
The place is small, decent menu, good food, but could be better overall. Perhaps they want to be higher end than they are, but food still good. Tables are covered with white paper over tablecloths, so you’re eating off paper...it’s not fine dining....not a famous chef’s restaurant....yet oddly their policy is not to offer any substitutions/modifications. If you have specific dietary needs or allergies, call first to see if they’ll accommodate! I asked for a very minor change and waitress annoyed said it couldn’t be accommodated...Said, “we don’t do subsitutions” so I got pasta w/a plain red sauce that she relunctantly offered to add shrimp or meat to for a fee, but I am a vegetarian...and they would not add vegetables “bc the vegetables are already chopped up and need to be kept aside for the other dishes on the menu”. They do put vegetables in a red sauce with pancetta, but won’t put the same vegetables in their red sauce without the pancetta??? The restaurant was not busy so surprising they chose to save their vegs aside for potential customers vs mtg dietary needs of their sitting customers!
Be aware that they don’t offer kids menus either. $19 for a pasta with tomato sauce is ok for me, but steep for a 5yr old! They should at least offer a half portion for $12-15 for kids. Waitress also never acknowledged our anniversary so that was a tad disappointing since we had noted it and mentioned it. Overall, you can get a very good meal here, and i might even go again, but just be aware that they “do not do substitutions”, have a limited non-alcoholic drink menu, and do not offer smaller portions for children.
This was our second dinner at Taranta. The food is excellent as is the service. We asked for a table on 2nd floor which is a little quieter than the first floor and were easily accommodated. I think the only negative is the bathroom which is downstairs otherwise it is a great, unique choice in the North end.
The futility cookeked in parchment paper is the best ever. We would highly recommend this restaurant.
Unique twist on traditional menu items. Great place for foodies looking to mix it up a little. Excellent service, very relaxed atmosphere.
Food was good—- everything was pretty good and they had GF options.
Food was excellent. Service was good despite the fact that the restaurant was packed! Been here several times and have never been disappointed.
Lovely atmosphere, amazing food. Everyone at the table was delighted with the dish they had ordered. We even had dessert even though we were full, and it was also wonderful. Service was perfect. Cannot wait to come back!!!!
Been to Taranta several times. Always enjoyable. Although it wasn’t an issue this visit, the tables are pretty close together. Food more than makes up for table spacing, though!
Went for a friend’s birthday with a crew of 8. Very nice ambiance and upscale food and wine
I think the server was too busy. We didn't get attention for a long time after getting our meal, and mine wasn't prepared as i asked. It should have been a simple solution, but he didn't look at us for over 30min!
It was my son’s 13th birthday. The food was good, staff was nice, however we had to climb three flights of stairs to get to our table. The odd thing is - there were plenty of empty tables on the 1st & 2nd floor. We were the ONLY people in this “attic like” room. To go to the bathroom meant going down 4 flights of stairs. When I asked about getting one of the empty tables on the first two floors; I was told they were booked for the evening. However, when we left an hour & half later - 90% of those same empty tables were STILL empty. Very confusing & but off-putting.
