Taranta Ratings and Reviews
Went to this restaurant twice in a week as my son had looked up the reviews and cuisine. Enjoyed the food immensely, from the homemade tagliatelle with pomodoro sauce to the lamb shank, fabulous. Great atmosphere, small, quiet and private. We missed meeting the Chef who wasn't on site when we were there. He has a well-deserved reputation.
Made a reservation for New Years Eve dinner. Food and service were exceptional! They might have crammed a couple too many tables in, though. That said, for an extremely busy night, out party was very impressed with the quality of the food as well as the service. It was our first time to Taranta, and I honestly don’t know how we hadn’t heard of, or been to this place. We will go back!
We had dinner with friends at Taranta before a show at the Improv Asylum. I had to change the reservation from 3 to 8! They accommodated us with a beautiful table on the second floor. The menu has something for everyone and I had trouble deciding what to order. I will just have to go back! Our server was pleasant and professional. The food was served piping hot which in this weather was most welcome! People have lots of choices in the North End, but I would put this place on your list! Happy New Year!
We've been to Taranta a number of times and have never been disappointed. Our meal on this visit was as expected - outstanding in every respect. Service was professional, conscientious and attentive. We're already planning our next visit to experience different offerings on Tranta's interesting menu.
We ate at Taranta with friends who were in visiting from out of town. We were seated right away, and our waiter was kind enough to suggest we put our food orders in all at once because the kitchen was so busy.
-The mussels appetizer was worth it.
-Unique, well-executed dishes. The Italian-Peruvian fusion is a nice change of pace from other North End fare.
-The wine list is good.
-The chicken was a little overcooked and dry.
-They were out of several of the wines on the list.
-The tables were packed very close together.
Nevertheless, a solid staple. I'd return again.
Taranta impresses no matter what I order at this restaurant. I've tried several dishes on several occasions, and each time I am delighted with the inventiveness of the dishes, which also satisfy like comfort food. I've enjoyed the pork chop, the lamb ragu with gnocchi, and most recently the stuffed chicken breast with homemade mozarella and spinach and a Peruvian olive butter over a crispy polenta. Their passionfruit cocktail with prosecco also stands in as dessert.
We were very excited to try Taranta for the first time on Saturday. Obviously, the reviews are quite good and the chef is a friend of a friend situation. Hence, the restaurant was recommended to us and we chose to book our holiday friendship dinner there this year. The restaurant is charming and the ambiance is nice. We booked via OpenTable 2 weeks in advance and we were able to score a 6:45 reservation which was also nice. That being said, after dinner the six of us walked out in agreement that Taranta was a "one and done" restaurant for us. First, we were seated upstairs by the window which was very cold (although the view for half of the table was very nice). The hostess agreed to move us downstairs and our waitress asked why we were moving. When we noted that it was quite chilly, she muttered under her breath that they COULD HAVE turned the heat up. Whatever. So we were reseated. The menu provided options that suited everyone and we were all excited for our meals. However, all of the meat dishes that our table ordered were less than flavorful. The presentation was beautiful, but the meals themselves were just "meh". Further, when our waitress asked if we were interested in ordering a drink prior to our meal, one of our party members asked if they had a full bar. The waitress replied that they did NOT have a full bar, and that we could only order beer or wine. On our trip to the washroom however, we found that there are indeed many options outside of beer and wine on display by the bar. My friend just wanted a Campari and soda which could have been easily accommodated. Our hopes for this restaurant and our experience were high, but we walked away disappointed.
Taranta never disappoints. A highly creative menu fusing Peruvian and Southeen Italian staples. You can't go wrong with anything, but everyone has to try the homemade Yucca Gnocchi with Ragu Verde at least once! A good wine selection to accompany the meal makes Taranto the perfect spot for a date or get together.
Tried taranta for the first time on Saturday and we will definitely be back. Very unique dishes - not your typical italian cuisine. We tried, the Paiche, the Chicken and the Fusili - all were outstanding. The restaurant itself is cozy and romantic, and quiet enough so that you can hear people talk. The service was also top notch and our waiter made great recommendations.
Busy North End restaurant with Three floors. Initially we were seated on third floor which felt like Siberia as bathroom was in the basement. We asked to be moved and the restaurant accommodated us by seating us on second floor, which was much nicer. Great menu, primarily Italian with some Peruvian influences. Service was attentive. Wine list was acceptable with some good choices for under 50 dollars. Noisy but it was Saturday night. I would go back but probably not before exploring some other North End options.
Last weekend, I used Open Table to find an immediate reservation near my hotel, and I happened upon Taranta. My expectations were not high for a North End restaurant with available, last-minute seating on a Saturday night. Fifteen minutes later, we arrived at the restaurant and there were a few open tables, reinforcing my fears. Those fears vanished as soon as we tasted the delicious pan roasted mussels. We ordered two entrees, the lobster ravioli with shrimp and the day’s ravioli special – both were yummy. Even though we were very full, we finished the meal by sharing the lucuma tiramisu; both it and the coffee were out of this world!
I️ was striking out at every restaurant in North End so i finally hopped on OpenTable to see if any restaurants had a table to reserve for 2 in the next hour. Luckily, Taranta had an opening so i immediately booked it. The food was delicious, but it was much pricier than i anticipated (should’ve checked before booking). The service was okay. I prefer for Parmesan to be shaved into my pasta instead of scooped from a bowl, which is picky on my behalf. The waitress gave my friend a really hard time about asking for her dish without olives, and also brought out the two dishes at different times. I’d go back again, but only if i was planning on spending a bit on a meal.
Inventive fusion of Italian and Peruvian cuisine in an energetic, but not too loud environment.
We really enjoyed all the dishes presented, but were really wowed by the pork chop. I’ve only seen a cut like this on the Flintstones. You’d better be hungry!
Don’t skip dessert, either, because their cheesecake and tiramisu were out of this world.
We love the complex flavors, the small, though not crowded atmosphere; the food is like none elsewhere! Jose is the owner and he runs a smooth operation. The staff works seamlessly together-actually enjoying what they’re doing. It feels good in here and you want to linger...
I am vegan, and the chef created a very flavorful and beautiful meal. He used an eggless pasta and sautéed wild mushrooms with a side of some spicy, Smokey sauce. I don’t typically eat my leftovers, though I savored every bite of this the next day.
The lamb shanks and fish were equally as fresh and delicious. I won’t mention any names, but someone in our party ate the fish for breakfast the next morning!
I highly recommend this restaurant for an intimate or large gathering. It’s uniquely fabulous!
WE love Italian, but when we read that Taranta infused Italian with Peruvian, it was a must try. The mussels, parpadon, calzone all had flavors that were delicately balanced and complimented the dish. Each was an experience that left you craving more. Great service by William.
I was very excited to try Taranta and am disappointed that it was such a poor experience. I made a reservation for my family of 6 at 7:30 on a Saturday night. Drinks were ordered and delivered, and our server took our food order. An hour later he came to the table to say there had been a "problem with their system" and our order had never gotten to the kitchen.
Mistakes happen, but good service would have been a few appetizers on the house delivered immediately, and our meals jumping to the head of the line in the kitchen. Neither of these happened. After delivering the bad news our server seemed to actively avoid us, and we had to ask multiple people multiple times for more bread, as well as repeated check-ins on our meals. They finally arrived at 9... 90 minutes after being seated, while we'd hungrily watched food stream out of the kitchen all night. Our server did offer free desserts, but we were eager to leave so instead we asked that he comp our drinks.
Hopefully others have a better experience, but I will not be returning.
Pleasantly surprised by marriage of Italian and Peruvian flavors. A wonderful menu with a selection of traditional and non-traditional offerings. We had a very special family dinner. We were seated on the third floor with an amazing view of Boston. Will definitely go back.
Couldn't be more pleased with my experience at Taranta. I was in town for just a night after being on Cape Cod for a wedding. We wanted someplace nice, with good food, but not a tourist trap.
Service: perfect, friendly, timely and unobtrusive.
Atmostphere: Cozy, but not cramped, fun to watch the people going by on Hanover St, great view of the Custom House Tower. Quiet enough to have a conversation, but not too quiet that you feel you are overhearing everything your neighbor says. Dark lighting, but it fit the mood and wasn't too dark.
Drinks: The Pisco sour was delicious and the wine list was small, but filled with good wines. All/most of the wines are grown biodynamically and with sustainable environmental practices...doesn't mean much if all you want is a great drink, but it was a nice touch and the wine we had was great and went well with all of our food choices.
Food: It is a mix of Italian and Peruvian food, but with mostly an Italian flair. We started with the mussels which were absolutely fantastic. The broth was so flavorful and rich and the mussels were plump and perfectly done. We all got various pasta dishes, which were equally fresh and tasty. The Porcini mushroom pappardelle and the lobster, crab ravioli were particularly delicious. Initiatially, I didn't think the portion sizes were that large, but they are! I couldn't finish my meal.
Definitely worth the visit!
We ordered an appetizer, a bottle of wine, and two entrees, and everything was fantastic. I was in Boston for four nights, and this was hands-down my best meal there. The service was perfect as well. I noticed our server checking on us periodically, but he didn't hover or pester us at the table frequently at all.
