Mediterranean themed menu served tapas style in a casual, socially vibrant setting. Moderately priced food and award winning wine list with 38 wines by the glass.
I am a frequent diner here, but this night, I brought my sister-in-law who lives out of town and had never been to a tapas restaurant before. We ordered off of the DTSB Summer Restaurant Week menu, which was a nice simplification of their larger menu and hit the highest notes. The atmosphere was lively and upbeat, offering great people watching on a First Friday night with glorious summer weather. I love bringing friends and family to Tapastrie because I know the food will be delicious and the bar service (with a fabulous wine list) will be excellent. Wait staff is first class without making you feel stupid if you don't know what to order/how to do tapas. It is always a special meal at Tapastrie.
Excellent overall! Our favorite restaurant in South Bend.
A restaurant in downtown South Bend that is absolutely fit for foodies!
We always enjoy our meal here, and the value during DTSB Restaurant week can't be beat. Our only criticism was how quickly the food was being brought out. I had to ask a server to wait a bit for the final set of entrees. We already have a return visit booked for next weekend!
I brought four friends who had just finished a great but hard working conference to Tapastrie recently. They loved the food and were constantly pleased as the series of tapas was delivered to the table. Our waiter was new and needs some guidance, but he tried and we enjoyed ourselves greatly.
Overall, I wasn’t too impressed. Service was fast and professional. Food taste was very bland the day we came in. Atmosphere was great, very Chicago feeing. I’d say give the place a try, we just went too impressed with it likely because we set an expectation that it would be better.
This is the most creative restaurant in South Bend for food and beverage. Their paella is on par with any paella made in Spain. Their wine selections are excellent. Their tapas menu offers a wide range of alternatives especially if you are dining with someone on a vegetarian diet. Their servers are great on pacing the tapas and are very attentive to your needs. The restaurant's ambience allows for excellent table conversation and the owners are very attentive to all their customers needs.
Excellent food, good service. Convenient location.
I live in Chicago. This did not compare to the tapas restaurants in Chicago. The wait staff needs to be more educated with the menu. Although they were very friendly and attentive, they could not provide additional information about the food other than what was already on the menu. My husband and I tried the Iberico pork. Nothing special to us. The food was OKAY. We sat outside and it was a great location. I wouldn't go back for the food, but if you are looking for decent food with a nice location to sit outside, this was perfect.
Food was great. The staff was a bit arrogant and condescending.
Excellent service and our waitress did a great job explaining how tapas works. Food came out well prepared. A unique experience we may not be able to have for a long time. Only complaint was the restaurant was louder than expected.
The Mediterranean dip sampler is excellent. Lamb meatballs are superb. Pork kabob was a little dry.
A DTSB treasure. Terrific tapas with many vegan options. The food was delicious and the wine/drink selection was amazing, too. Nice vibe, too!
Such a great experience! I visited with a group of girls for a bachelorette party. They were very accommodating as we were running late because of flights, and did all they could to ensure we had a great experience. The place has a trendy elegance to it, while still feeling comfortable and not stuck up.
The food and drinks:
The drink options were almost overwhelming! There were so many with the added option of trying multiple wines with a loadable card. We all had the 3 sangrias, and they did not disappoint. A bit on the sweet side, so think more like a wine cocktail than a dry wine.
We ordered many tapas and one steak, which cut like butter. My favorite bite was either the stuffed mushroom or the date. Definitely try those!
All in all, I would definitely frequent Tapastrie for special occasions if I lived there. I recommend!
Always interesting menu. Paella is always outstanding and generous portions. Service is very efficient. Set menu is a great value.
I took a date here and it was very nice. I like that it's loud enough that you can't hear other table conversations yet you don't struggle to hear each other. Great place to go in South Bend! Great wine selection.
Service was painfully slow and awkward, and when we finally broke down and went to the bar for help getting started on the wine machine, the bartender was abrupt and dismissive. We arrived more than 2 hours before the show we were seeing at Morris, and literally had to run to get in the doors before it started. The food was not as spectacular as in previous visits, so the long waits and slow drink service made the price paid seem a bit high. Other couples we knew there had the same exact experience. We probably won’t go back. Unfortunate, as it’s a great location, and attractive room.
A little pricey but all in all a wonderful experience!
Absolutely wonderful! Great atmosphere, wait staff and quality food! Went with my mom and we had the best time! We were from out of town so we are sad we won’t be able to frequent this gem! Owners sister stopped by to check on the tables, which was such a nice touch! Perfect for girls night or dinner with a loved one where you won’t feel rushed and can sit and just enjoy your time together with great food and wine. I would rate them higher if I could!
The food was good but a bit expensive. This is a specialty resteraunt and not for everybody.
The restaurant was clean and inviting, we tried several items off the menu and they were all pretty delicious. The chorizo wrapped dates were incredible. The mussels were recommended by the server but pretty underwhelming and the Gorgonzola cheesecake was not my cup of tea, but I would definitely go back
Tapastrie is one of the most creative restaurants in South Bend. Their chef has consistently had a menu that retains their classic dishes like paella but frequently introduces some very interesting new dishes to try. Their chef’s menu is a great value and allows you to try both their new and classic dishes. The noise level in the restaurant is unique in downtown South Bend as it allows you to both dine and have a conversation at the same time without having to shout!
I enjoy tapas restaurants so I have to preface my review with that. But Tapastrie did a great job. We only ordered a couple of small plates because we shared a plate of Paella. The first was a cold item, basically three spreads and some toasted pita. One was an olive tapenade that was delicious. Another was a hummus spread, and the third was baba ganoush, an eggplant based spread that was great. For a "small plate", this one was pretty large so if there are only two of you, it is pretty filling. The second small plate was the gnocchi in clam sauce. This dish was delicious and highly recommended. The sauce included sun dried tomatoes and asparagus. Really good. I could make a meal of it. Lastly, we split a plate of paella, in our case, the seafood version. Really nicely done. The kitchen was out of crab so substituted more shrimp, which worked out fine. If you like paella, this is a really solid rendition. Great experience overall and pretty reasonably priced. I think we were all in at around $75, including a glass of wine for each of us. If in South Bend, I'd highly recommend this place.
Atmosphere and service was great, but food were small portions and high priced.
The food was good, some things were far better than others. The “wine machine” is a bit obnoxious. Our server knew nothing about wine. The food runner seemed annoyed when we asked her for two plates. We were one of three tables in the restaurant so it wasn’t like they were so busy they didn’t have time to help us. It was good but a little underwhelming.
Everything we ordered was excellent! The wine selection is amazing. Great food, service, and atmosphere.
Really enjoyed the food and service. The noise level, however, was way too high. I wounder if it was only near our table. Will certainly be back.
Great food, friendly staff but main dish served before appetizers and one us didn’t receive his salad after entree
We were told the paella would take a while so we ordered grilled oysters first. They were minuscule and it was mostly herbs and butter in the shell. Not worth the price. Sadly, the paella was severely overcooked. The shrimp were rubbery and the rice very dry and hard. We should have sent it back, but after the long wait we just wanted out of there. It was a waste of $50. One of the worst meals we have had in a long time. Food like that should not have left the kitchen.
Fantastic food. I was expecting small plates, which is what you normally receive for tapas but the servings were proportionate and delicious. The tables were somewhat close together but placed in such a way that everything still felt private. The food came out minutes after we ordered and never seemed to stop coming. My only problem was our server who seemed like she did not really know what was going on. We had questions about the menu and she did not seem confident in her responses. Other than that everything was fantastic.
the food was way too spicy . my wife has allergy to peppers and we told the server yet half the food we received had peppers in it!
We went for our Anniversary. Great service and delicious food!
Everything was outstanding! We ordered a charcuterie tray and it came out beautiful, but a minute later a server came to retrieve it as the chef forgot to put something on there. We were so impressed that he realized his mistake on his own and fixed it. We would never have realized it. Everything we ordered was fantastic. We will be back!
Our server was very attentive and patient with us as we had many dietary concerns in our party of 7.
Absolutely love this restaurant! You always leave feeling very happy and full!
Tapastrie does a remarkable job. They were busy due to a concert at The Morris, but the service and food could not have been better. We were seated closer to the kitchen, it was amazing to see plate after plate and tray after tray being swiftly routed to tables. They did a remarkable job on a busy night.
Food was delicious! We ordered tapestrie butter with bread, Mediterranean dip sampler, Greek village salad, oysters, gnocchi in clam sauce, and Spanish style garlic shrimp... would truly recommend this place/food - outstanding!!!
Great authentic tapas in South Bend, IN. The host and waiter were accommodating and the hot and cold tapas were terrific. Our paella was overdone, but overall the meal and mood were great. I will go again!
Second time. Except a few standard items, food is really bad here. Dont eat the paella, dont eat the salads:)
Good food. Service could have been better on the sense that the waitress would come only after a couple of requests every time. Would be nice if she’d stopped by to ask if We needed anything else. Being small plates it was necessary to re order frequently.
