Tao Uptown Ratings and Reviews
Has the name but nothing else. Don’t bother. Every time I’ve been here the reservation time has been a joke. I had a reservation for 8.45pm and they seated us at 10pm which is completely unacceptable. This isn’t the first time it’s happened - the other two times I’ve been here they have made us wait a ridiculously long time despite having a reservation. I had a friend visiting from out of town and we wanted to go for drinks after to the plaza and she wanted to see the Rockerfeller tree. None of that happened due to how late we finished due to being seated at 10pm. I made my reservation WEEKS in advance and never would have made it for 10pm. It’s the fact that this is a regular occurrence. Also the food is average is best. The only good thing about Tao is the ambience.
Booked a table for 8.15 arrived at 7.50 hoping to get a drink before hand. We were greeted by the doorman and asked to queue shortly for check in. We were told to wait through in the bar area, grab a drink and our table should be ready on time. When entering the bar area what we found was a dark area with little to no available seating and a very loud ambience. At 8.30 we were given a pager to identify when our table was ready and told it would not be much longer. At 9pm after complaining to the manager we finally got a table. Sat down, looked at the over priced menu, ordered, ate and left. I don’t wish to comment much on the average food as the damage had already been done at this point. A birthday meal spoilt.
I made a reservation for 6 pm and I was told when I called the day of to confirm that our reservation would only be held till 6:15. We arrived at 5:55 (party of 4) but we were not seated until 6:30. I was not very pleased with this but the food and our server was so fantastic it made up for our initial disappointment.
I would absolutely return. My only complaint and it's very minor is that I went with a group of four. We asked if we could each have a check and our waiter said no. That he would bring one check and we could divide it out ourselves and write on the back of the bill how much went on each card/cash. I don't understand how we can pay seperately off one bill but he couldn't just give us separate bills. Seems like it would have been easier with separate checks.
I was there with my fience for lunch and it was such a wonderful experience! Specially for me since I am not very familiar with Asian dishes. The service could not have been better! And the place looked amazing!!! We are definitely going back there soon !!!
The food was delicious and came out in reasonable time. However, I felt that we were not getting the proper treatment compared to other tables around us. Our water and fountain drinks were never refilled, we sat for 30 mins with empty glasses while other tables were getting wine poured in their glass every 5 minutes or so. Overall the server was nice but I’m thoroughly disappointed at the lack of service that we received.
It was absolutely the worst food i have ever eaten and i have eaten all over manhattan and Long Island. We were a party of 7 and not one person enjoyed their meal. We order Peking duck, pad Thai, steak and various other dishes. All horrible.
We have been coming to Tao as a special treat to our 12 year old daughter as it became her favorite restaurant after our first visit.
For this trip we made a reservation on line through open table and was easily accommodated and was also able to leave a note to ask for our dessert to come out with a candle for the birthday that we were celebrating.
We all loved every course, the staff, and particularly our server Vladimir, were very friendly and accommodating and helpful in making our order decisions.
We love Tao and will be back many times!
Upon arriving I was pleased at the way the place seemed, until I met the receptionist who was really cold and impolite. I waited till 9.40pm for my 9.15pm reservation and it was frustrating that you had grown hungry by then. My friends are from Europe and the dinner experience was a total fail for us.
Sorry I wouldn’t recommend this shabby place to anyone.
I went to Tao Uptown with three girlfriends that were visiting from out of town. The food was great and there was a lively, fun vibe. The reason I gave it a 4 star overall and not 5 is because we had to wait for an hour and a half after our reservation time to be seated because they overbooked so many tables (there were 6 other tables in our same situation and a lot of people being turned away at the door). It was ok for our group because we weren't in a hurry to be somewhere else and the food was worth it in the end. They compensated us by bringing out a very nice assortment of dessert on the house. I just wouldn't try to go here for a quick dining experience!
Food was better than expected. Staff was under pressure as even though we had a reservation, we ended up waiting two hours to site unfortunately. Not the best especially when they keep thinkging out table would be ready. Not ideal so don't know if I'd go again.
Amazing food. Great atmosphere. Our waitress was very knowledgeable on the menu and made great recommendations for us. We started with the pork dumplings which were delicious. Main dish of the sea bass with vegetables was so good and they offered a Nantucket scallop special also very good. We had desserts, chocolate lava cake and the apple crisp Spring roll, both were amazing. Will be going back again.
Very disappointing. Value for money is not worth it. $100 per head for bland fish, some small starters and a cocktail. The presentation is not attractive and looks like no care went into it at all....which you would expect with the prices they charge. Service was good- but I’m not going back. Used to be much, much better. Has lost its spark.
I've been to Tao Uptown several times and last night I had the absolute worst experience. The food was literally inedible and the service was terrible. I was so disappointed with my experience and will no longer be dining there.
