Unremarkable in every way. Getting dated. Still packs a crowd but not sure it's for the food. Sushi was never great here - no change there. The cooked food used to be excellent, but not on this trip.

Tao is my hands down favorite restaurant in midtown. Managers and staff make it memorable. Everyone I invite to the restaurant leaves super satisfied with the delicious food, the décor, ambiance and cocktails. The vibe and culture of the restaurant is timeless. I have been going to the East 58th Street Tao since 2002 and it continues to be a hot spot.

We took our frozen son after he marched with his school in the record cold Veterans Day Parade. He likes sushi -we wanted Thai do this was perfect. We got 2 lunch pre fix & 2 a la carte plus a bunch of extra soups, Pad Thai etc, all good not bland. The side of shiitake & ginger saute mushrooms was a delicious & large serving. Nice huge Buddha is cool. very jammed packed and bustling by about 5:30pm!!

I will not go back. Review the bill carefully. The waiter charged us an extra $100 on the bottle of wine and had no explanation for it.

First time here. The food was excellent, but extremely overpriced, however it's New York so it's no surprise. The service felt rushed. Definitely trying to turn over tables.

We had 8pm had reservations, didn’t get our table till 8.45. The bar was noisy and packed, waiting for our table was not a nice experience. The host/hostesses were unhelpful and the ‘bouncers’ rude at best. The food was average, might as well go to PF Chang’s, for less money. The only nice part of the evening was our server. Will not go back or recommend this place to friends.

THE Food was not good enough . Two downtown is much better . We were disappointed from the level of the kitchen , the food was regular - no special tase . The atmosphere was not friendly like in downtown. I truely recommends to upgrade the restaurant itself and the menu ingredients.
Good luck

Even thought the food was good, the organization and service before being seated was the worst.

We made a reservation for 8:30pm, we arrived on time and waited until 9:15pm to be seated. Every time we claimed for the delay employees at Tao just kept saying that our table was going to be ready any time soon and that we needed to wait for people on our table to pay the check... Then... what’s the point on making a reservation w/almost one week in advance.

I’m aware that restaurants are 3rd parties that work with you and you, as OpenTable, are not accountable for them but you should at least keep certain levels of service to guarantee the whole customer experience

Had a reservation for 3 at 8pm on Wednesdaynight with friends from out of town. It was packed upon arriving at 8:09pm. Very friendly Hostess said we would be seated soon. After 30min waiting spoke to floor manager. He told us we were late 20min. We weren't. After 1hour the manager Kevin in a very professional way apologized and seated us promptly. Manager Kevin offered us drinks. The server Lou was outstanding in customer service and very knowledgeable about food and wine suggestions. Superb service. Manager Kevin comped dessert to assure the name Tao will be well seen by us. Absolutely returning. Thanks. Definitely returning.

Even though we had a reservation, the wait time was long to get seated, about an hour. Other than that, the ambiance was nice and the food was decent, just wish we could’ve got seated at the designated reservation time.

Food and service (once seated) were excellent, but be prepared to wait.
We waited for an hour to be seated even though we had a reservation booked a month ahead. We were not the only ones waiting. We would have left if it wasn't a Saturday night and hard to find another restaurant close by.

Food served faster tha MdD’s—- we had ordered wine but it came minutes after all the food was on the table— servers must have been recently transferred from a late night diner, constantly reaching across table to place silverware—lazy! And always saying “you guys” — table of 8 men, women, children— disappointing experience!

Service was very good and our waiter was very attentive to allergies that one diner had.

Dim sum appetizers were underwhelming. The duck roll was a bit too oily given the fact that the roll was fried. Chicken dumpling were fine but not light unlike typical dumplings. Shrimp wrap was decent.

Food was mixed bag. Pad Thai and wagyu beef entrees we ordered were so so. Miso sea bass was very good and probably the only entree we would consider coming back for.

TAO is my go to dinner spot. It’s always been a good dining experience. Tonight though? Two people at the table. Time the food delivery so both can enjoy at the same time. My girlfriends had finished her entrée before mine arrived. We had to beg for more cocktails and steal utensils off of empty tables. We ordered desert and cordials from another server. Listen, one bad experience isn’t going to cause me to give up on the establishment, but damn guys, it’s why we pay $9.00 a piece for raw fish and $20.00 for a cocktail. If I wanted bad service I would have gone to Don Coqqui and choked down that swill. Please, don’t let one of my favorite places turn into one of those “it used to be good, but now it sucks” disappearing restaurants that “lose their lease” overnight. See ya before the holidays.

First time in NY and had heard a lot about it. The girls on the front desk need to be more aware of their surroundings. We are your guests.

The Bar staff were great.

Service in the main restaurant was amazing. Until our waiter went home and his shift was swapped. Obviously this happens. But it wasn’t done smoothly and the new waiter acted as though he now did have to bother. Sorry. But you expect us to tip. So sort it out.

Trying to pay the bill was a nightmare. He didn’t listen to my instructions and tried to take the full amount from one card. Idiot.

The food was amazing. The price is expected.

Anyway. I’d go if you like overpriced pad Thai that tastes good. And good service (to an extent).
