Tao Uptown Ratings and Reviews
Table wasn't ready when we arrived. Bar area where we were asked to wait was packed. When we were shown to our table there were 3 empty ones there. The 4 dishes we ordered all came at the same time and didn't fit on the table. Food taste was average and 1 was very greasy. Overall it was disappointing.
Super friendly staff, average food.
We were slightly disappointed with this restaurant. We went expecting a lot, but left feeling like we had been to an average place in Midtown Manhattan. The food was just ok, oily and not creative. I could not finish my dish because it was too oily. The steamed bamboo / vegetarian dumplings were good though! Staff was very friendly, efficient and nice.
We waited over 45 minutes for our reservation while there were plenty of open tables. The food and ambience are wonderful but the front desk is a mess and makes the whole thing a one -time only experience. As much as we loved the food we won't go back. Management needs to fix the front desk!!
I was under the impression that Tao was one of those Buddha bars, hip, dark, and noisy party spots. How I was wrong! At the entrance, people came out of the place was a family with small children. We were greeted by friendly hostesses, and escorted to a second floor table overlooking the first floor dining room with a huge Buddha. Dimly lit space was calming, and we had no problem conversing among us while keeping somewhat privacy.
We all ordered drinks and fish dishes, and they were great. Fresh and tasty, and portion was spot on. For the price that they charge, however, it was only expected. I appreciated that it wasn't salty nor overly asian flavored, however.
Maybe they wanted to give us privacy, but for Sunday evening (shouldn't be so busy), service wasn't so attentive-when we needed them, that is. But it was OK overall.
I've been a loyal TAO patron for years in Vegas and New York but the service & the food quality was so deplorable. The wait to get to our reserved table was an additional hour!
Our waiter was overwhelmed, and inattentive. He would not give us suggestions on food choices based on taste. Rather, he would leave us unattended for lengths of time to let us decide. By the time he came, we had specifically told him that two of us wanted to split pad Thai, and get the garlic shrimp tempura tapas, while my other friend went on to offer shrimp and lobster rolls & another entree. Our issue: birthday girl is allergic to peanuts and he didn't tell us or at least clarify! Another issue was we did not know he can not place an order unless he took all of our orders.. so it took another hour to order.
We received our food, obviously turned away the pad thai away after noticing which I had a bite of.. it tasted like sticky fish broth in flat noodles that even the shrimp was flavorless. Everything else was mediocre at best... not 5 star quality. What bothered is was that he didn't even provide two plates for the pad thai (prior to realizing there were peanuts) knowing we were sharing. I couldn't get his attention so I asked another waiter..
Only thing he got right was the fortune cookie for my girl's birthday.. other than that, he also never physically handed us the bill so we sat there for an additional hour waiting for it.. when it was placed at the corner of the table. That's lack of etiquette. Another waiter dropped glasses and silverware tripping on a chair and the big spoon smacked my ankle. I picked it up, put it in the table.
An 8:15 PM reservation pushed to 12:30 AM, and while I loved the company I was with, not a single waiter offered to help us take a photo & they did notice me getting up so many times too. You just don't treat people like this. We still promoted y'all on Instagram for the beautiful decor which deserves a star so one star's where it's at.
We had a girls nite out last night and it was packed as usual. We had raspberry mojitos at the lounge, our table was ready on time. The food was great, the wine selection was pretty good. We tried dumplings, duck, and tempura rolls. For dessert we had the giant fortune cookie and the molten cake. Everything was very delicious. Our server was friendly and polite. Even though it was packed, the tables are far enough from each other so the conversations don’t mix up. We found a reasonable parking garage two blocks down. It was very convenient.
