Tao Uptown Ratings and Reviews
Very interesting place. The decor is very good. Space looks like backstage at a theater with multiple layers of seating. We really liked the space. Food was mixed. Pot stickers were great as was my husbands steak. Duck was ok. They knew we had theater tickets and got us fed and out on time but never felt rushed. Worth going for ambiance alone.
Misma historia. Pésima organización.
Tao is my hands down favorite restaurant in midtown. Managers and staff make it memorable. Everyone I invite to the restaurant leaves super satisfied with the delicious food, the décor, ambiance and cocktails. The vibe and culture of the restaurant is timeless. I have been going to the East 58th Street Tao since 2002 and it continues to be a hot spot.
We took our frozen son after he marched with his school in the record cold Veterans Day Parade. He likes sushi -we wanted Thai do this was perfect. We got 2 lunch pre fix & 2 a la carte plus a bunch of extra soups, Pad Thai etc, all good not bland. The side of shiitake & ginger saute mushrooms was a delicious & large serving. Nice huge Buddha is cool. very jammed packed and bustling by about 5:30pm!!
We had 8pm had reservations, didn’t get our table till 8.45. The bar was noisy and packed, waiting for our table was not a nice experience. The host/hostesses were unhelpful and the ‘bouncers’ rude at best. The food was average, might as well go to PF Chang’s, for less money. The only nice part of the evening was our server. Will not go back or recommend this place to friends.
THE Food was not good enough . Two downtown is much better . We were disappointed from the level of the kitchen , the food was regular - no special tase . The atmosphere was not friendly like in downtown. I truely recommends to upgrade the restaurant itself and the menu ingredients.
Even thought the food was good, the organization and service before being seated was the worst.
We made a reservation for 8:30pm, we arrived on time and waited until 9:15pm to be seated. Every time we claimed for the delay employees at Tao just kept saying that our table was going to be ready any time soon and that we needed to wait for people on our table to pay the check... Then... what’s the point on making a reservation w/almost one week in advance.
I’m aware that restaurants are 3rd parties that work with you and you, as OpenTable, are not accountable for them but you should at least keep certain levels of service to guarantee the whole customer experience
Had a reservation for 3 at 8pm on Wednesdaynight with friends from out of town. It was packed upon arriving at 8:09pm. Very friendly Hostess said we would be seated soon. After 30min waiting spoke to floor manager. He told us we were late 20min. We weren't. After 1hour the manager Kevin in a very professional way apologized and seated us promptly. Manager Kevin offered us drinks. The server Lou was outstanding in customer service and very knowledgeable about food and wine suggestions. Superb service. Manager Kevin comped dessert to assure the name Tao will be well seen by us. Absolutely returning. Thanks. Definitely returning.
Food and service (once seated) were excellent, but be prepared to wait.
We waited for an hour to be seated even though we had a reservation booked a month ahead. We were not the only ones waiting. We would have left if it wasn't a Saturday night and hard to find another restaurant close by.
Food served faster tha MdD’s—- we had ordered wine but it came minutes after all the food was on the table— servers must have been recently transferred from a late night diner, constantly reaching across table to place silverware—lazy! And always saying “you guys” — table of 8 men, women, children— disappointing experience!
