Birthday - Lovely meal with attentive staff. Great cocktails and the food was scrumptious with very generous portions.
The food is not very good. I ordered pad thai. I didn’t like it and it was overpriced
While the appetizers on the prix fixe menu were hits, the entrée did not deliver. Both the spring rolls and beef appetizers were delicious but the Kung Pao chicken was too spicy (although the waiter advised it was not) with tough chunks of chicken.
Love the location and the food!
Miss a sharing platter in the menu since that is very common to do.
Service is always amazing. Especially Kevin and Stephanie. High touch
And keeps me coming back
Dinner with a long time friend who was in from Pittsburgh. We ordered lettuce wraps, sushi, scallops and wasabi steak. Everything was very good.
Excellent meal and great drinks but it’s still Chinese food and it’s expensive for Chinese food. Awesome fortune cookie dessert
I want to love TAO Uptown. After seeing so many rave reviews, perhaps my evening was an off- night? The chicken wrap was overly salty and heavy on soy sauce. Although our mushroom dumplings were quite delightful-no complaint there. So we assumed it was a fluke with the chicken wrap. Then our mains arrived, the sea bass and the ahi tuna was similarly overly salty. Kept having to drink 3 glasses of water to wash down the sodium. Not wanting to return our dishes, we ate what we could and omitted eating the sauteed vegetables which was drowned in some thick overly salted sauce. Throughout the meal we were waiting for the hectic waiter to ask us how our meals were to no avail. He never bothered asking and the bus boy quickly cleared our tables. The waiter did come to drop off the dessert menus and off he went to deal with another table. After a bad taste in our mouths (pun intended) we asked the passing waiter for our check and it was dropped off on our table. I tried to tell the waiter but he seemed like he was in a hurry as it was a full house that evening. I excused myself to go to the restroom and pass the manager, so I told him in detail which meals were very salty and that we couldn't enjoy it. He responded by saying "he'll let the chef know". In good business, it doesn't cost much for a restaurant to compensate a dissatisfied customer by giving a small plate of fruits or a couple of pieces of chocolates to take the sting of a bad meal go away. Or at the very least, take off the appetizer charge since the chicken pieces were drowned in sauce and we didn't eat it. Considering we were paying almost $40 for each main the execution falls flat here. The ambiance was great with vibrant energy from the crowds, but the food sadly did not deliver. Overall was disappointed as I had anticipated coming to TAO Uptown for quite some time. Unfortunately I will not return and I don't think they really give a two hoots.
One of my top favorites! Always a pleasure!
Great food but Too loud music!
I had a 9 PM reservation and I wasn't seated until 9:40 PM. I was extremely disappointed as I had plans following dinner that I was late for.
My reservation was 08:45 my friends and I arrived at 08:25 but our table only was ready at 09:20! I went 3 times to ask the ladies about it and they were not supportive.
Special night out for a birthday. We flew from Austin TX for the weekend and only went to great restaurants/locations, this one certainly was one of the best! Loud, energetic, fun ambiance. Waiter was helpful and very friendly. We were seated when we arrived (we had a booking made 2 weeks in advance) and overall had a great time. Food is excellent with a lot of variety.
They never disappoint! Always a favorite in NYC. Our service was exceptional and the food is always the freshest and unique.
Table took longer than expected, despite reservation. Service was ok, but not great, as the place was too crowded. Food was quite good.
Seated 40 minutes after our reservation time with no acknowledgement or apology for the long wait. Bar server was fairly rude, and table server was slow and indifferent. Food was very good, but would expect a better experience given the price.
The food and environment are very good but is not reasonable that we made a reservation for 8:30 PM and we have just 15 minutes for any delay (that is absolutely fair) and need to wait more than an hour to be seated.
Excellent server and great food
I brought my mom here because I knew she would love the giant Buddha. I made a reservation for lunch and when we got there they sat us at a table for two. But one of us had our back to the Buddha. We asked to move and they offered to put us in the back corner. So we stayed at our table. But as I was walking back from the bathroom I notice all of the tables in front of the Buddha were empty. I was disappointed we were moved to a table where we both could see the Buddha!
Reservation for 730, didn’t seat us until 815
Great lunch experience. We both ordered the lunch special which is a good deal for the amount of food you get. Good service too!
Great atmosphere. Fun. Food was great cocktails were tasty
Hostess stand is snooty and aloof. If it wasn't a cold Monday night I would've left! Was seated 30 mins after my reservation time because we showed up 10 mins late!
The food is good - but way over priced. Frankly there are much better options in this city, and I probably will never return (this was maybe my 5th time there, and the worst experience out a many sub-par visits!)
Always enjoy going to Tao!!
Thanks for everything!!
Amazing as always!!!
Best food have I had while staying in nyc food was amazing highly recommend to anyone looking to go
There were 8 of us and we wanted to sit downstairs. They sat us right on the main side aisle by the wait station. Not an ideal spot.
It was a birthday party for one of my dearest friends and 6 other friends brought her to NY from DC as we’ve had a difficult end of the year with a family loss.
She loved the restaurant, food was amazing, music was great. Felt a bit rushed at 8:45 reservation, like they wanted to turn the table quickly. Not the best feeling. Otherwise, it was a good evening. I personally prefer the down town location. Feels a lot less packed in and rushed.
This is a strange place: it feels more like a club for 20-30 somethings than a restaurant. Noise level is VERY loud, so that our party had to shout in order to hear one another. The hostess was rude and unhelpful, though the cocktail waitresses and our waitress were helpful.
Beautiful restaurant, fair food, and too many amateur paparazzis.
I brought my wife here for her birthday tonight. The ambience is a 10. The building inside is very pretty and all of the statues and decor make it a really unique experience. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. However, there were a few issues. I thought the white rice was a little stale like it had sat out for quite a while. It was a little dry and hard, and not very warm. People that were dining around us kept taking photos with the flash on over and over. I wouldn’t mind a couple pictures, but it was the entire time we were there eating by the same few tables. I understand it’s not the restaurants fault, but it would have been nice if a waiter or manager would have politely asked them to keep it to a minimum. Eating in a darker lit room with bright lights flashing in your face every few minutes kind of disrupts the mood and conversation. I thought the food was good. But I thought it was a 3.5-4. I didn’t think it was $170 good, which is what I paid for a few shareable plates and Wagyu. I have been waiting to visit NYC and try TAO for over 13 years, but haven’t had the chance to make the trip until now. I may have built up unfair expectations.
I just realized that I was charged $158 for a drink and pad Thai. It was dark when I signed so I didn’t see the bill. I called and no one would talk with me. I am very upset.
Honestly, my waiter was the best. I wish I could remember his name right now, but he really made my first time at TAO special so thank you for that!! The food was also great! I ordered Pad Thai with chicken & although it was REALLY good, it was actually too much so I couldn't finish it all, but that just goes to show you that you get your money's worth! My ONLY complaint is that the music was too loud so my friends and I were literally screaming across the table.
My daughters sweet 16!
Great cocktails, delicious sushi and outstanding service!
Excellent service and waiters and waitresses.
Wonderful from the drinks to the food to the atmosphere!
On vacation and loved Tao! Food was delicious and service was great!
The ambiance was romantic and the service was great. I wasn't a great fan of the food but the banana pudding was amazing.
El servicio no fue amable. Tuve que preguntarle al mesero si había algún problema pues su actitud no fue cordial.
Everything was perfect! Love the food!
