Bachelorette / 30th birthday !
Great spot for a fun night
Interesting eclectic menu, of East meets West type dining . Food quality excellent, ambience and service great.
Waiter didn’t seem interested. But everything else was greAt, had a good bus boy who was nice and helpful
The entire experience from start to finish was beyond amazing. The quality of service and food over exceeded my expectations. I will be back a thousand times again! Thank you TAO for everything!
My ultimate favorite restaurant !!! Food and atmosphere is amazing.
Yes, I would, its a very hip place, really cool to go out with friends or on a date. The service was amazing and it shows that they are really into good service and great food.
I love TAO in general, but I especially love this location. This particular dinner was just me and a coworker having a quick dinner. We were sat at a 2-top along the wall, ground level, next to a divider screen on one side and a couple dining our other side. The music was incredibly loud, deafening actually (or as Open Table calls it "energetic", ha) as we could barely hear each other trying to discuss work. The food was amazing as always but I am just not a fan of 2-top tables packed so closely together. They should space them out, lose a few tables, or just turn it into one long community table and be done with it, because it is truly just like being completely insignificant to their business and crammed into the tiniest space possible while trying to enjoy one's dinner. We were starving and in a hurry, so just didn't think to ask for another table, but not sure that would have been possible as the dining room was packed as usual.
It was lovely and great environment
The duck rice, lobster fried rice and sea bass are AMAZING. The chicken wing lollipops are a must have as well!
I loved the ambiance. Our waitress was very attentive. The food was delicious. I had a great birthday dinner.
We celebrated a friends birthday and she had a wonderful time. I highly recommend for a fun night out. Great cocktails!!!
Tao really went beyond our expectations! Top notch food, amazing friendly and professional service and the Tao expierience was just great!
The greeter was not the friendliest. Within my reservation, I informed this location we were from Florida celebrating my husbands birthday. Requested for a nice seat and the birthday surprise other Tao locations have done in the past for my friends thats why I decided to bring him to Tao. Perhaps this location lacks good customer service. Had no issues with other locations.
The food and ambiance was amazing
Poor ervice. The reservation was at 11:15, but we were invited only 45 minutes later. The air conditioning was at a very low temperature level. Asked several times that we were freezing out. Then changed a table. No soya sauce at the table. Chicken was not tasty.
Amazing location, food, music and ambiance. The only downside is we had reservations at 1030PM and had to wait an hour to be seated.
Even with an reservation, we had to wait 45 minutes for our table. I acknowledge that there is a financial incentive with sending guests to the bar before they sit down, but 45 minutes WITH a reservation is way too long. Some food items are off the charts, but for 45 dollars per dish I would expect a certain level of quality. However, some of the conventional dishes does not warrant the high prices, the sushi is the same quality as most - less expensive - sushi places around. We got the distinct impression that the mantra "quantity before quality" was echoed throughout your establishment. This is the second time within six weeks I have been to TAO Downtown, the first was great, this time around I got a completely different experience. If people have to wait 45 min, even with a reservation, a gesture in terms of a free drink or the like would be a good place to start. It seems that the brand TAO is so well known that people will still flock to your restaurant without you having to deliver the great experience you once did so well. If I were you I would remove a couple of tables, put down more sound absorbing fabrics on the wall, lower the volume a bit and take a look at the menu, a single " not-out-of-this-world" piece of nigiri should not cost 7 dollars. It is truly remarkable how different the two experiences just weeks apart was complete opposites. I am positive that you would not change a thing, nor even read this review in its entirety, as I suspect that TAO already is a money-making-machine, however at some point in time I also find it highly likely that others may realize the same thing as I did, that TAO has sold its soul in exchange for slightly better profit-margin.
As always is a great place to dinner on weekend in NYC, god food, good music.
The food was delicious. We brought relatives who were visiting from Chicago. We also celebrated my sister in laws anniversary. The ambiance is spectacular. We all had a fabulous time!
My friend and I came late to the restaurant, but they still gave us a table when we arrived. Our waitress was great, she messed up when it came to our checks (which she fixed immediately). The atmosphere was amazing, I will definitely come back there again.
Bad service, Wait for 30 minutes to get the waiter to take the order, Im disappointed
Great food and service is the best
I had a reservation at 9:30 PM, but was not seated until 10:15 PM. It was very crowed and no where to sit. Security made it a big deal for me and my party to move even after explaining there was nowhere else to stand. Waiting/ Standing in heels is not the best time. However, Tao is an amazing vibe! The food was great, and our waiter was very friendly. Food was very pricey. For example, Beef and Broccoli is $52. If you reside in Philadelphia, you would know that is very expensive.
Food was so so and service not the best. Great atmosphere
We were looking forward to this reservation for weeks. Had friends in from out of town and were excited to take them to a popular and hip spot downtown. Unfortunately, our waiter was terrible. First, he actually told us that we were not allowed to start by ordering our appetizers, but rather that we had to order the full meal at once. We did so, and then the food came out at all different times - some main dishes before appetizers and then a long long wait a few individual parts of the meal. We ultimately told him not to bring the last dish because we had waited so long and had already been there for a very lengthy dinner and were more ready to leave than anything else. When we expressed concern about the order of the food and the strange wait time for 2 of the 6 mix meals, the waiter clearly did not care. Given this terrible service, was not worth the price tag and a few of us only end up have part of a meal. Huge disappointment after reserving weeks in advance.
While my party of eight greatly enjoyed our dining experience for my birthday it took a turn for the worse when we went to the club downstairs. The female bartender was beyond rude and ignored us and while we were seated at a table for over an hour that was apparently meant for bottle service, no one said anything to us until a bouncer rudely THREW US OUT of the table. He was aggressive when I asked him to stop grabbing our belongings and proceeded to roughly remove me from the club. I am 5 ft 3, 110 soaking wet. His rudeness and aggression were out of control and at one point he grabbed me which is a big no no. He is lucky I did not call the police! Absolutely horrible treatment to my self and my friends. Appalling!
Dined here on a Friday night for our daughters birthday. Ordered 2 appetizers, lobster egg rolls and the shrimp tempura cups, only to have a piece of hair in one of the shrimp tempura cups. Manager was very apologetic and took care of our apps. Lobster fried rice was delicious as was the beef Mongolian and the Cantonese cauliflower. We had the bread pudding doughnuts which was awesome! Great food (minus the hair!) and delicious dessert. The restaurant is beautiful! Definitely for a special occasion. Pricey but nice once in a while
Too unpersonal and not top quality food. Very cold
Excelente lugar! Lo recomiendo!
Stunning setting and dramatic restaurant. We were seated in a booth which was a really comfortable layout for 5 people. Service was faultless. Food arrived quickly - a little too quickly between dishes. Food was perfect and a beautiful combination of flavours. A must visit restaurant if you are visiting New York.
This is a destination restaurant experience. We loved every minute of it. The decor is exotic and beautiful. The different table types are unique. Our waiter was very attentive and the delivery of all of the small plates we ordered was well paced. Cocktails were innovative and quite tasty. Dessert presentations were gorgeous. We're already planning our next visit! *One note though, the music just didn't jive with the experience at all for us.
Made reservations for 6 for a birthday party. Had drinks at the bar, waiting for all parties to arrive. Drinks were good, but a little pricier than they’re value. We got seated after prodding the staff at the front, but when we did, the rest was smooth sailing. Food was delicious. Had chicken dumplings, miso glazed black cod, fried rice, sea bass, steak, and special sushi. This is a beautiful place with great ambiance.
Love the food and the atmosphere.
it was a nice evening but the service at the reception of the restaurant was slightly less. despite the reservation we had to wait 50 minutes for our table.
Great experience. A little bit overpriced but very tasty and special
Lost the buzz of previous years. Not what it once was. The most disappointing bit was the dim sum. My wife has a mild peanut allergy. We ordered a mixed dim sum platter - no where did it say one would have peanuts in... who puts peanuts in dim sum?! Anyway, I was soon off to Duane Reade for allergy tablets. The staff weren’t overly helpful, I complained to the manager as we had to leave prettt sharpish as my wife felt unwell, he took the bill from me (I thought to deduct the dim sum platter...) and then it came back... unchanged. Joyous.
The food was very SALTY !!!!!!! The Server Was Very Rude....
As always very nice. Great layout, incredible internal design. Food was really good. A bit noisy so good when you’re with a bunch of friends when everyone screams, but probably not for a first date... Nice background music. Club design and atmosphere
Went for boyfriend 40th bday fantastic experience party of 13 was handled like a champ...food was excellent
