Wonderful! A really fun way to celebrate an anniversary.
Absolutely amazing food and decor. Spend a pretty penny, but the food is outstanding and you will not come away hungry . Well worth the visit.
Priced quite steeply. Very nice ambiance, food was fair. Excellent service
Someone dropped a glass near us not my waitress tho. They gave us a round of free drinks and a platter of dessert.
We had a really bad experience. The waitress we got was incompetent and full of attitude.
Beautiful restaurant! Food was amazing! Service seemed a little discombobulated, but overall, a great experience!
It was truly amazing. The food was amazing as well as the service. We ordered, got our food and had eaten, all within 1 hour. I loved the vibes here. I would go back again and again! Truly a great way to celebrate my birthday!
So happy they brought Tao to Chicago!! Never disappoints!
Awesome for me and my husband birthdays this year!!
Fabulous Girls night out , beautiful design andambience ,yummy food and drinks, great service
Too loud, I was screaming to talk to my partner who sat across of me. I’ve been to Tao in NYC, so I know that there definitely changes in the menu.
The sea bass skewers were delicious!!! Great dining experience
They converted the prior Excalibur’s Club into an amazing new venue. But a couple of annoying things right off.. they demanded a credit card to hold the reservation with some penalty for being a no show .. like $100 or something crazy. Never had to do this in Chicago for a party of 4. Our reservation was for 8:45. We were prompt. They gave us a pager and said they would page us when the table was ready. Over an hour later the pager finally paged. In my work I bill $500/hr for my services so our $350 meal should have been compt with an additional $150 for the hassle. If an establishment has to charge a fee to hold a reservation then they absolutely have the responsibility to provide the table at the allotted time.
Perfect for a date
They do not read any of the special requests so it’s probably best to call in the reso. We only requested a larger table than the basic tiny two seater tables since we like to order a lot of food but were escorted to a tiny table anyways. Eventually they were able to accommodate us after leaving us standing uncomfortably in the middle of the dining room while they figured it out. The food was forgettable and basic aside from the dessert. The best part of the meal was the bread pudding donuts. SOOO GOOD! I think it’s good spot to go to if it’s late and you just want some cocktails and small plates. I wouldn’t go back for a full dinner. Our server was great and food came out really fast. Overall is wasn’t awful and it wasn’t great.
Food was good, loved the look of the restaurant however I had food spilled on me not once but TWICE!! The first time the bus boy spilled crispy pork all over my sleeve. Management gave me a voucher for dry cleaning but the grease stains aren’t going to come out. The second time different bus boy spilled ice cream on my lap.
I mean WTF, seriously twice?!
Was an amazing and totally worth it experience
Music was too loud. Server was nowhere to be found on numerous occasions .
My boyfriend and I visited TAO for date night. It was an amazing date, the service was impeccable. They are very accommodating to all food restrictions.
Tao made for the perfect date night dinner. I definitely recommend the giant fortune cookie!
Everything was so good, but the lack of service was so disappointing! Makes me debate whether or not to come back to eat. I had to keep reminding my waiter of items I asked for, like water. The appetizers came out before drinks. The waiters could care less.
Not sure what the point of selecting the occasion is when they clearly didn’t pay attention to it. Went for my birthday and selected BIRTHDAY as the special occasion. Waiter did not acknowledge it at all when we ordered our dessert. Service was a little disappointing that night, definitely won’t return.
Sushi was amazing, great service, food came out super fast. Excellent highly recommend 😍
I’ve been to Tao in Vegas for special occasion so excited to see new Tao Chicago. For a Monday evening Tao was very busy and energetic! Beautiful decor! I’d recommend if you can’t get reservations on a busy night, go sit in bar at couches for full menu dining or at sushi bar... we were told first come basis. I’d prefer to order appetizers, then meal or sushi but we were asked to order all at once because it’s restaurant policy. Some portions very small (only 2 pcs & there were 3 of us dining) and others larger so if it’s your first or second visit it’s hard to not have too much food ordered or not enough. I think our waiter did a fair job in guiding us but would have rather of ordered at our pace. Food was delicious but a more descriptive menu with all ingredients would be helpful in making decisions in ordering. We ordered drinks at bar before being seated and would have loved to have our hostess take my martini down the long stairwell to our table instead of me spilling it a little at a time on my sleeve and on the stairs. Overall good place for special occasions and will return.
Overall the restaurant was amazing great ambiance, however the food was a bit lacking. Tasted like above average Chinese/Japanese food. Will go back for drinks over dinner
The ambience was amazing and the decor is greatly done. However, the service wasn’t good and we felt rushed the whole time by the server. When we asked for recommendations the most expensive items were said and not explained but just pointed out, as if we are expected to know their dishes by name. Our server made us feel as if we annoy him and we weren’t feeling welcome. For the price we paid, there are many other wonderful restaurants with better service that make you feel welcome. Maybe I will give it another try but will sit on the bar and enjoy the ambiance. I felt little disappointed after all this waiting to go check it out.
Loved the ambience and service. Some dishes were very good and others were not bad.
Service was spectacular. Ambiance swanky. Great cocktails. Very pricey.
Some of the food is great and high quality. However, a large amount of the food is glorified chinese food. Fun ambiance, but probably will not return unless I am only looking to have a drink.
Server took the time to walk us through the menu as well as make food and drink recommendations. We loved everything! Chilean sea bass was phenomenal. The restaurant has a very fun, upscale vibe.
Food is very avg and noise level kills the evening. We went for Birthday and Tao forgot that we are celebrating. When reminded they arranged small piece of cake for $ 25 .
Overrated. Better places to eat in Chicago. Food was okay, at best. Over priced. Not worth spending $160 for dinner for 2 with some drinks. The desserts were the only best thing.
I am beyond disappointed with this place. The first time I went with girlfriends and after spending $600 they asked us to leave our table because they had overbooked. I have been in physical therapy and under doctor care for 6 months with bilateral feet injuries and explained that. They proceeded to guide us to an overcrowded bar with nowhere for me to sit. I sent management an email when I got home and never received a response.
I gave them a month to get it together and decided to take customers in town on business. This time we were not sat for 45 minutes after our reservation and only after I had to get upset.
I will not be going back nor will some of my girlfriends. That is a loss for them as we have to entertain frequently for business.
Amazing ambiance. Great food, especially the sushi. Will be back
Food was ok, but not nearly good enough to make it any sort of value. Staff acted like it was the first time they had waited on a guest with food allergies (gluten and dairy) which most restaurants in Chicago have no issue with. Everything was very heavy and salty. Worth checking out for the interior but will not be back.
Everything was perfect with our dining experience. What a great venue with a lot of personality. Our service was great.
wonderful new dining in chicago. staff was great
Excellent experience from the ambiance to the outstanding service. The food choices were varied, unifies and above all delicious. We can’t wait to go back again
Food was absolutely disgusting. 120$ for the worst dinner I’ve ever had... the dessert was great and the service was phenomenal but I would never have dinner there again.
5 o'clock Saturday reservation for 5. There were at least 20 people waiting outside their locked door at 10 minutes to 5, all of us freezing cold and wondering why we couldn't wait inside. Yes, they open at 5. But obviously, 5 o'clock reservations will arrive before then, so let us keep warm in the waiting area on the inside, prior to 5 o'clock seating.
Incredible ambience. Service was outstanding. Food was fun choices, but many dishes were too salty and some of the sweet sauces were also overly sugary. Once cocktail, the Yuzu, tasted mostly of mixer rather than the Jack and Laphroig that were supposed to be the main ingredients.
