Food was fair
Prior dining with friends months ago food was better
I had a 10:30p reservation but did not get a table until 11:15p. The waiting sucked but the drinks and the food were phenomenal. The ambiance was great. Loved the music and the atmosphere.
The food was great. We set a 10PM reservation, were seated by 1030 which was great considering how busy the place was. Everything we ordered was amazing and our server was awesome. Will for sure be back soon
We brought friends fro out of town
Great atmosphere. The place is incredibly run. The service was amazing. And the food was great. Wonderful evening!
Really tasty, excellent service and beautiful! Super noisy, to the point that you cannot order.
A must when visiting Chicago. We enjoyed every morsel. The atmosphere is wonderful in the old Chicago Historical Society building. They keep all the charm with a modern updated feel. The food was delicious from first bite to last.
Birthday dinner for my daughter. Truly an amazing experience. The decor was fantastic, ambience was more than I ever imagined. And the music-awesome!!!! Every corner of the restaurant was fabulous. I will definitely return
Very very nice place and the food was delicious. Definitely a go to spot 💯
Our waiter was extremely disinterested; much more concerned about his larger "all male" groups.
we order quite a few things to end with the miso roasted Black Cod, which I have had all over the world, with great success. The one here (TAO) was basically inedible, the fish mealy and way over cooked, and sickenly sweet - I brought it up to the attention, he looked at me and said all their dishes were sweet and that everyone who ever ordered the cod loved it and he walked away.
we did not want to bring the evening to a negative end so we paid the bill, tipped 10% (I hope he understood why) and left. Not sure if we will return although we do live in Chicago.
my name is Vivian Taylor if you wish to look up our bill. We dined on 9/11/19 - our reservations were for 7:45pm.
It was best best friends birthday and the whole experience from the bar to the service, the food and ambiance was exceptional! I cannot say enough!
Terrible and slow table service for waitress. Food quality was OK. No Seabass on dinner menu; only appetizer.
Best service. Food and ambiance are fantastic.
Our server Lala was wonderful, The food and drinks delicious. The only one thing that had me a little upset is that I did state that it was mine and my husbands 9 year wedding anniversary in hopes that they would give us a nice romantic booth or table especially since it was not busy at all and they had a lot of nice seating available, Nope they stuck us at a tiny little table right between two other couples and literally had to squeeze in between them to get out. Not cool at all. $250 for dinner and drinks I think when someone tells you it’s there Anniversary or birthday ect that you can have the commen decency to seat a little better especially on a night were the restaurant is half empty.
Wonder experience to celebrate my birthday. Lee has to wait about 30-40 min even with a reservation. They more than made up for it with 3 free appetizers and free wristbands to the club. Highly recommend this restaurant. Food, service and atmosphere were incredible.
Food really normal, but really good ambience
Overall, the food was the best thing during our Tao experience. It was delicious and serving size was good value. service was not so great. I arranged our reservations through open table and indicated we were celebrating my birthday. The host was the only one who knew this though and did say Happy birthday upon arrival. reservations were for 8, we are over at 8 and were seated a few minutes before 9. They said the tables were slow. The server did not mention Happy Birthday or ask of we were celebrating anything, nor do anything special like desert with the meal. Later in the evening the manager did come over to see if we wanted to go to the club, and mentioned he saw it was my birthday, but apparently did not inform staff.
A side of rice that was supposed to come with the meal, came only after our friend was done eating his shrimp dish. Manager offered a complimentary drink, which was nice. He accepted and 2 more of us also ordered additional drinks. Server came and positioned herself very close to the table and there was a collision of the tray and hands of one of the guests and the 3 drinks spilled down the shirt and pants of our friend. He was soaked. Experienced servers know you do not hover a tray near the guests, and you announce your presence so guests know you are there with a tray of drinks. I get that accidents happen, but when the bill came, the 2 spilled drinks were on the bill! They did remove them when I pointed this out, but when stuff like that happens, the server should pay extra attention to get the rest of the night right. They did not offer to comp a meal or any % from the $250 bill. They didnt offer a free desert or anything. We had to go back to the hotel to wash his outfit and just wanted to get out of there. It started my birthday evening our poorly. I was truly looking forward to dining at Tao and celebrating there, as I had heard such food things. I hope next time they rise to the occasion and take better care of guests.
Went there for my 1st anniversary with my wife and the service couldn’t have been better. The hostess mentioned the anniversary, as did the manager, Harrison, who surprised us with champs. Service was perfect, food was great.
Mostly my experience has been exceptional at TAO. However, on this visit the drink I ordered was flat but more importantly the scallops were terrible. I had ordered the scallops the weekend before and they were delicious. But this time the sauce was runny and taste like vinegar. Very disappointed.
Beautiful place inside! Excellent food. But if you want Gluten Free their menu is marked inaccurately.
Food was fantastic. The sea bass skewers appetizer was a melt-in-your-mouth decadent option and the Cantonese Cauliflower was AAAAAAMAAAAAZING!!!! It tasted like an egg roll. Surely some sorcery was involved in preparing that dish. Scallops were also FANTASTIC - the sauce was super savory. And their molten chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream. OMG. I can’t wait to go back! (Yes I am a huge foodie!)
Nice staff and great waiter. Some dishes were very salty or not that special for the price. Overall, enjoyable time in a chic building/atmosphere.
Waiting time was a bit confusing with the buzzer. Not sure why needed a reservation and then still had to wait 15-25 minutes to get a table, however the hostess was pleasant enough to explain and was still friendly. We had sushi and The sushi was good but not sure worth the expensive price tag in comparison to other sushi places. The music was good and went with the decor and ambiance but it was loud. Additionally, may be the club section is different from the restaurant section, not sure why after dropping $100+ on dinner the club charges $20 cover. May be give an offer for a free entry ticket to the club for diners.
It started out beautifully. The atmosphere is dynamic and huge. It’s beautifully appointed and lively. We were a table of 8 our server was excellent at first, but as the meal progressed we felt left in the dust. We had to ask for the check ask for refills ask for to go containers and ask for someone to take our credit card.
We rarely saw our server after we got our entree’s.
Birthday for my step daughter. We had a great meal, friendly and knowledgeable wait staff and an overall terrific experience.
The service was lack luster food was OK sushi was mediocre... i feel that everything is over priced. Ambiance is nice.
This is one of mine and my boyfriends favorite restaurants, we actually planned a previous vacation to Vegas just to eat there. Now that we know there is one in Chicago, just a 4 hour drive away, we will be able to enjoy many more romantic dinners at TAO.
Always exceptional food with exceptional service!
We waited ages to be seated over 45 minutes though we had a reservation. We were then given a table with low table because they said they couldn’t accommodate us, the table was suitable only for coctail drinks only not to dine and have food. Service was very slow, our food was served las and cold. And we were the past people to leave . Horrible experience
Good food, nice ambience. The reservation eas not ready at the time and the bar was slow
Our waitress was amazing, such a cutie. It took a little wait to get our table, but people checked on us a few times. The food is really good - the Brussels and Shanghai noodles are bomb. Great scene - I think you still have to wait to get to the club side even if you have dinner.
The food and service are stellar. I highly recommend ordering a bunch of dishes for sharing so you can try more things. Dinner and drinks here are an absolute must!
Our server Ali was great, she made great recommendations for food and drinks, it was our first time there and we are definitely going back!
Excellent food, service, and ambiance! Will definitely be coming back again and again!
TAO Chicago is always a decadent experience. Make sure to try their signature Tao-Thai cocktail — a must have!
Phenomenal service, phenomenal food
The place is nice and the food is good, but even with a reservation, we had to wait about 45 min to get a table, which is a poor service, in my opinion. If you’re planning to go, be patient because the place is crowded.
We was waiting for our table for 1 hour!
We was eating Sushi and besides the crispy spicy tuna nothing else wasn’t good !
So over all I was disappointed
Great food, service and atmosphere.
I went with a friend to celebrate my 40th birthday. I was a little disappointed that nothinh
