Tanta has two Chef’s Tables that each seat up to 10 people. These tables are located in our main dining room in between our open kitchen and cebiche bar which allows you and your guests to experience our chefs creating Peruvian cuisine while you dine.
The menu, created by Acurio and Tanta Chicago Chef Giancarlo Valera, takes diners on a voyage through Peru via its food. From the Pacific Ocean, through the Andes, to the desert, to the Amazon, Tanta celebrates the diverse landscape and ethnicities that make up Peru’s culture.

The waitress was in a rush to get us out it felt like.
Let's start with the ambiance. Low score due to having to wear a winter coat during dinner. It's a tough call whether or not to penalize a restaurant for these ridiculous CDC "guidelines". I can see where the "roof top" dining might be nice in warmer weather, but the entire upstairs area was unpleasant given the cold temperatures. And the décor was, um, nondescript? and dark.
Service? Well, the waitress we had was extremely attentive and went to great pains to describe the various dishes to us. Working against her were two things.
1. Given the unusual ingredients and the mask she had to wear, we had the hardest time understanding her as she described the dishes and drinks we asked about.
2. The entrees arrived 10 minutes apart. My friend was nearly done with his before mine arrived. I'll give the waitress the benefit of the doubt and call foul on the kitchen staff. Otherwise, I might have given the restaurant a 5 star score for service.
Food? Not that easy a call. I personally did not care for my fried shrimp appetizer. I found both the batter on the shrimp and the (deep fried) fingerling potatoes, way too oily. I felt a film of oil on the tongue with every bite. Removing the breading from the shrimp helped, but I wouldn't order it again. My friend, actually raved about this dish. Though, when given the choice of taking the last piece of shrimp or the last potato slice, he opted for the potato.
The chicken skewers were good, but the corn kernels upon which they sat were flavorless.
My beef and noodle entrée' was okay. Meat was well cooked nicely seasoned, but the noodles were saturated in oil. Flavorful? Yes. Heart healthy? No so much.
The chocolate mousse was pretty good, but the best part - the crunchy quinoa topping - was only a thin dusting. I would go back JUST to get the mousse and a cup of coffee but ask for half the mousse and twice as much topping.
I may try Tanta again, or not...

Food was absolutely delicious ! very accommodating to food allergies, my party was all lactose intolerant and they asked about cross contamination and gave her a sorbet for her birthday desert instead of ice cream
Went for my birthday. It was a lovely experience sitting on the rooftop. There were heaters on either side of our table so we stayed warm. Food was delicious and servers were excellent!

During winter covid times It was too cold on restaurant rooftop to enjoy the meal fully. Food great service great drinks fabulous but they need more heaters could not take your coats off .

My favorite food always. great friendly service with rooftop dining. Best cocktails anywhere. What a wonderful oasis from being stuck in the house. Thanks to all the staff at Tanta for your dedication!!
Everything my party of 4 ordered was really good! However, the service was mediocre, the server twice forgot things I ordered. We felt rushed and couldn't get to a point where we could enjoy the outing at the restaurant. There is a 90 minute policy, and the clock starts from the moment you sit down. There is no consideration taken for the time it takes to have your order taken and the food served. Me and another member of my party wanted a second drink, but were told we didn't have enough time for another one. The member of my party informed the server, we had 30 minutes left, and so we were able to order the drink we wanted. Mind you, this was a Monday at 4:00, not a highly busy dining day or time.

We had a fantastic dining experience at Tanta on Christmas Eve. The staff went above and beyond to help us make drink and dinner selections and check on us during the meal. Though it was a very cold night, we were able to enjoy our meal with the heaters provided. All our entrees were delicious. We plan to return soon!
Cebiche was incredible. The special was off the charts and Carla was amazing with our pisco sours which were just like home in Miraflores.
The Huancaina sauce seemed to not have enough salt. The flavor was not as usual. Everything else was perfect.
Cozy and enjoyable
The food was delicious, especially the chicken empanadas! The ambiance was okay, granted we were happy to be inside during COVID, the environment could have used some music. Drinks were good and we hope to be back in the summer!
As always, their cocktails were great! Really hope they get back to normal menu.

Loved loved loved the food. So fresh and great quality meat and seafood. Drinks were yummy. Loved the Peruvian hot sauce And they even brought a complimentary cake for my husbands bday. Very accommodating and following Covid guidelines
The food was not particularly my favorite. It was a Peruvian & Asian cuisine fusion that simply confused our taste buds. We left feeling like the ambiance and service was great, but the food was just not worth coming back.

Great rooftop, very sheltered, with plenty of heaters for Chicago’s required outdoor dining. I even removed my jacket. No street noise!
