Tanta Ratings and Reviews
I was not pleased with this restaurant at all. We were promised the second level was quieter yet with a party of about 20 people nearby, our table of 4 had to shout to be heard. The food is just horrible. The only thing I enjoyed was the less expensive pisco sour even though the waiter tried very hard to upsell me to the more expensive one. I paid $60 with tip for 1 entree, drink, tip. Too much for the seafood mixto that was not enjoyable to eat.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Tanta. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. We shared the octopus skewer appetizer, which was probably our favorite octopus dish we've ever had. Next we shared the ahi tuna sashimi appetizer (the one with the coconut milk) -- the flavors were incredibly vibrant. We also tried the ahi tuna cuasita, which was also outstanding and very unique. My husband loved his lamb shank, and I raved about my new york strip that was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The drinks were also great -- especially the el macho. In addition to the wonderful food, our server, Becky, made our night with her top-notch service and impressive knowledge of and attention to my husband's food allergy. We highly recommend Tanta for a fun and delicious dining experience.
I have been many times over the past 5 months and the one constant is the hostess stand. They are not warm, friendly nor inviting. You need people who welcome complete strangers as if they are happy to have them. Otherwise the restaurant is consistently excellent!!
This was my first time dining Peruvian style and I didn't know what a lot of the foods were, but, we tried the chicken appetizer, which was excellent, the lamb and the mixed seafood plates were equally as excellent. The wine list is a bit pricey in my estimation, but overall the food was great and the service was great. I recommend you give this restaurant a try, you won't be disappointed.
Fantastic restaurant for amazing food and drink. This was a return visit and it did not disappoint. Fried plantains and spicy dips were a delight! Presentation was beautiful and the flavors made your taste buds come alive! Service was so friendly and perfect balance! Do not miss this wonderful restaurant!
The flavors are impeccable and the presentations fabulous. Staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and cocktails and can provide well balanced recommendations. Can order individually or share. Personally, this is a place to go with a group of 4 or more so you can sample a wide variety of the menu. The wine menu is limited but trust me, this is about the food. Good vibe and not too loud for conversation.
The food was exceptional as always but the service this time was mediocre, from the hostess at the front to the waiter. It was surprising since it is usually pretty good. I will be back for the food and hopefully the service will not be lacking the next time.
Wow. We loved the restaurant. We didn’t know very much about Peruvian foods and so we ordered a variety of appetizers and main courses to get a good sampling of the foods. We loved all of it. I highly recommend the ceviches and empanadas. For the main course, the tenderloin was very good.
I just love the vibe at this trendy yet modern restaurant with their decorative murals and friendly wait staff. The food was good and tasty especially the beef tenderloin. Drinks were exceptional as well and the waitress was accurate on how she described the drinks and also items on the menu. The only issue a had is that some of the items seemed overpriced for the amount of food given. Make sure that you receive a full description of how the menu is divided by small and large plates. It will help in the decision planning of your meal.
Went with a friend during restaurant week. Got the octopus app, shrimp crusted fish entree, and cookie dessert. All dishes were great, particularly the shrimp crusted fish. Service was excellent. Not super busy on a Monday when we arrived but the place was packed by the time we left. Will definitely go back to try more of the Peruvian food.
We were there for restaurant week and were seeking a new place to try. I had never had Peruvian food before and I was pleasantly surprised by the cushion of Latin and Asian flavors. Our service was efficient and friendly. Our portions were so large that we all took our entree to go and made sure we had room for dessert. I will return for sure!
We enjoyed Tanta’s restaurant week offerings. The slightly deceptive moment came after we had ordered an additional appetizer after noticing the menu only included a main course and dessert. The trio of empanadas we ordered were flavorful with just the perfect amount of dough. However it made the unlisted fried yuca balls feel like a reminder of how they had tricked us into buying more food. The mains were all balanced and filling, but were overly simplistic for such a well known restaurant and opportunity to shine. Since it was provided, the desserts were rich and filling but not memorable.
Best moment - a server accidentally spilled a piece of food in one of our cocktails. After presenting it to our waiter, a new drink was provided immediately.
I went during restaurant week. I've dined several times before and have always had good service and love their food. However, I was really disappointed in my recent experience. The service wasn't good - we were rushed through our meal; I felt like I were treated a little differently because we ordered from their prix-fixed meal - but my friend and I ended up spending over $100. So it wasn't cheap. And this is the first time I've had a bad meal there. Loved their appetizer - octopus; very beautiful dish and just as yummy. But their pasta main course was just awful. It was swimming in sauce, almost like a soup. I didn't understand it; I felt pretty gross afterwards. Their dessert was just meh.
Very disappointing; my friend was new to the restaurant and I doubt she'll be back. I may give it another chance.
I've travelled all over the world and sampled cuisine from many countries, but I never tasted Peruvian food. It was delicious and very much comfort food. The grilled octopus appetizer was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and very tasty with a great texture. I could have enjoyed that as my entrée. The empanadas looked great, but since I follow a gluten free diet I could not partake. My entrée was the fried rice. I liked that the egg tortilla was mixed in tableside. The sweet and spicy flavors were explosive in my mouth. The real surprise was the mousse for dessert. I never had crispy quinoa, in this preparation it covered a creamy sinful mousse and was accompanied by cacao meringues. I love different textures in my food and this was certainly a wonderful combination. I can't wait to go back to try more of the menu.
Food was very good. Service was very good. I thought it was a bit expensive.
The main issue I have with this restaurant is that the menu is too big. There are so many different dishes that incorporate the same ingredients. There are too many things to pick from, and because it's very expensive you have to limit your choices. Cut the menu in half, or alteast the entree portion of the menu, and I think you have a better product.
Must gets: Tamal empanada(1 empanada per order), Pulpo anticucho(Skewered Octopus served over mashed potatoes)
A group of us went to Tanta for Restaurant Week, and we were thoroughly impressed! Excellent service with food to match. Fresh ceviche and perhaps the best lomo saltado I've ever had. The mousse with quinoa was a nice and light dessert. Normally, the restaurant is quite pricey, but the Restaurant Week deal made it more approachable. Will definitely return for a special occasion!
We went to Tanta during Chicago's food week having read some raving reviews about this restaurant. We were not disappointed at all! The food was great and the servers were amiable. It was our first time trying Peruvian cuisine and everything we ordered was extremely flavourful. Portions were manageable and drinks were good too. We would definitely come back here for the food and hospitality!
Tried for a first time during restaurant week. The salmon was delicious , my husband selected off the regular menu and had lomo saltado which he said was excellent. Pisco sours were great. My only disappointment was that the lunch special was only two courses rather than the standard three courses. Will definitely return
