Tanta Ratings and Reviews
This was the second time I've been to Tanta, and it was excellent once again. The food is tasty and creative. The flavors are interesting and delicious. There's a mix of Peruvian and Asian (Japanese and Chinese) that is fantastic. Loved the cebiche traditos, the causitas, and the niguiri nikei. The only disappointment was the pollo a la brasa. The chicken was prepared well, but it was a little boring. It really is just an Amish roasted chicken. There wasn't much "Peruvian style" that we could notice. The drinks are also very creative with great flavor. Also, I can't say enough good things about the service. My husband has a dairy allergy and our server was really knowledgeable about the menu and what he could/could not eat... and there was a lot that he was able to eat (which isn't often the case at most restaurants). Our bill for four starters, one entree, and two drinks was $117. Really reasonable in downtown Chicago for this caliber food.
Last minute reservation, so we had a 5 o'clock Sat. Dinner. Food was excellent, but felt rushed. We ordered and appetizers were there in 2 minutes. Had to make an effort to slow it down as it got busier. Overall it was great, but I would try to get a 7 o'clock time and get there early and have a drink at the bar first.
We went to Tanta on New Years Eve and had a great time. I wish the atmosphere was a little more lively but the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. The beef empanadas were awesome we also really loved the Lomo Saltado. IT IS A MUST! This is basically a stir-fry with beef and the flavors were on point! We also had the Clasica Causita. This texture was a little strange for me but still good. We finished up with dessert and the best cappuccinos.
The food was delicious but the service was terrible!. Our waiter did not take the time to explain the menu and did not even tell us his name. In addition, the waiters just stand back or off to the side. When we received our food, our waiter never came and asked us if we were enjoying our meal or if everything came out as we expected. My boyfriend happened to catch his attention and he finally came to check on us. We expressed our disappointment in his lack of attention. He was very apologetic and gave us free dessert. We also watched the manager go to several tables around us and ask people if they were enjoying themselves. Not once did the manager check on us. It was very off putting!! As I indicated in my ratings, the food was delicious but service was awful. It was not a pleasant experience and we will not be back.
Wonderful menu with options that you don't often see. Excellent service that provides recommendations as well as giving detailed descriptions of the menu items. Highly recommend. We opted for several of the smaller plate items and loved all of them. The cebiche that we tried was outstanding.
This is as authentic as it gets for Peruvian food . The Peruvians that came said it’s better than Tanta in Lima .
Get the causitas, empanadas , tuna tiradito, Niguris, for main dish jalea and chairs aeropuerto . Contains the chingon and Pisco sour. Flavors are amazing !
Service was really great! The waitress was very helpful as this was a new experience and i wasnt familiar with the food. The food was excellent and extremely filling. My only criticism was it was a bit loud. The plating was unique and overall is waa a good experience and would highly recommend!
I was quite surprised. I had never eaten Peruvian food before. I had a chicken dish which was enjoyable. I would mention what was in it but I wouldn't be able to spell it out. Two people had different flavor empanadas which they bragged about. Another two had the Salmon which they also enjoyed. One had the Pork Fried Rice which she said she would love to come back for. All in all everyone had a wonderful time. The desserts were also delicious.
From the moment we arrived the place smelled great and the ambience was perfect. The food combines Latin, Chinese and Japanese influences into a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend Tanta for a unique and enjoyable dining experience. Can't wait to go back.
