Tanta has two Chef’s Tables that each seat up to 10 people. These tables are located in our main dining room in between our open kitchen and cebiche bar which allows you and your guests to experience our chefs creating Peruvian cuisine while you dine.
The menu, created by Acurio and Tanta Chicago Chef Jesus Delgado, takes diners on a voyage through Peru via its food. From the Pacific Ocean, through the Andes, to the desert, to the Amazon, Tanta celebrates the diverse landscape and ethnicities that make up Peru’s culture.

Overall my best dining experience in Chicago, staff is great.. the food is exceptional... and I will be going back for my birthday.
Food, as always, superb. Menu requires some concierge interpretation and guidance by server, which I’ve had great luck with on 3 previous visits. Not this time. Our server was not up to the volume and energy required to help 6 new customers orient to the menu. She was competent but not engaged, which most customers need with Tanya’s innovative menu. Also: NOISY!!
Nice restaurant with very delicious foods. It was quite enough to talk.
Food so amazing and service too.
Vanessa, our server, was absolutely incredible!! She made our experience extremely memorable. Thank you Vanessa for your care!.. The food was outstanding.
Overall, the food was delicious-ordered the ceviche norte*no, scallops, octopus and salmon; If I return, I will definitely re-order the ceviche and scallops. The other dishes were really tasty as well, but the scallops and ceviche stood out the most!
A must for anyone visiting Chicago!!
Food and drinks were absolutely fantastic! The sea bass special was out of this world.
Food was especially good this time, particularly the lomo saltado!
4+ years ago my now wife and I had our first date at Tanta. So glad to see that after coming here for many years that the quality and ambiance that we fell in love with has stayed. Hopefully in the coming years we're able to frequent this wonderful restaurant.
Our family of four enjoyed sharing a variety of wonderful dishes—the ceviche sampler and the empanadas were favorites!
Amaizing like always!!
Went there For Valentines Day Dinner. Lovely dinner and service.
Every plate blew me away. Would recommend for everyone.
Food was amazing!!! Our waitress took the time to literally go over every food item on the menu. Well worth dealing with all the Chicago traffic on Valentine’s Day for this experience.
Great food. A bit slow service but appreciate that they gave us free drink after finding out our requested drink was not in stock. Best Peruvian food!
It was amazing and Jo our server was outstanding!!! We will be back, the food is excellent!
One of the best meals I’ve had in Chicago. Fantastic menu!
We had been to Tanta once before - for lunch - several years ago, and I had always dreamed of returning. The Pisco Sours (yes, we each had 2 & splurged for the "reserve") were fantastic. The food? What can I say? So many wonderful flavors, starting with the dipping sauce for the addictive yucca chips, and continuing throughout the meal ... just layers and layers of flavors you cannot find at any other type of restaurant. Can't wait to enjoy it again some day - hopefully soon.
Maybe we ordered the wrong items on the menu but found the mixed fried seafood particularly bland, the skewers were good but other dishes lacked flavor. Should have tried the ceviche.
My favorite restaurant in Chicago!
Went with a group of 4 on a Saturday night. The front of the house accommodated our request for a booth with a little wait at the bar. Our server, Jeimmy, was very friendly, fun and took time to walk us through the menu as well as making some very good recommendations. The service was quick and consistent. The food was excellent! I'd recommend trying many of the small plates. Would definitely recommend to a friend and can't wait to go back!
Fabulous! Ceviche was to die for. Rice w Shrimp was delicious. Service just excellent 😊
The noise level made conversation impossible.
Loved everything about it. Started off with a pisco sour and mezcal cocktail, both excellent. Food highlights include everything, but particularly recommended are the pulpo, scallop (just don't eat the bed of salt.... Ask me later), and El macho cocktail (something smokey and delicious in there). The cebiche (ceviche) is great, but it goes beyond your typical chunked seafood in a bowl of line juice and cilantro. They incorporate different textures, colors, piece sizes, to make it unique and interesting. Be sure to drink down the juice at the end, aka tigers milk, to replenish your vigor meter.
We'll definitely be back.
My new favorite place in Chicago.
Previously lived in Peru. Was expecting something exceptional from this chef. It was good but did not live up to the level I had anticipated and was not worth what we paid. Look forward to trying out the restaurant in Lima. Hoping will be a better experience.
Our server was extremely helpful explaining the menu and her recommendations for each section. Each member of our party ordered different things and had amazing an amazing meal.
First time here. Dined for Restaurant Week. Interesting menu—delicious—will be back!
Great service, tasty dishes overall a great time
Tanta is a very chill place to experience Peruvian cuisine. The ambience is absolutely perfect for having a conversation, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and the food is just sublime. Having been to other countries in South America known for ceviche, I gotta say that the ceviche they serve at Tanta is on par, if not better. Served with love and meticulous craftsmanship, you can blow up Instagram with the beauty of their plates. The taste, however, is what will have you coming back again and again. Fantastic place!
The service was awesome! The food, however, was just okay. It's a bit pricey for what you get.
This is the sixth time we've been to Tanta, and the second time in a month. We love almost everything about this place: the Peruvian fusian cuisine is flavorful, plentiful and unique; the cocktails are amazing and well-balanced (but pricey), the servers are friendly, unpretentious, extremely knowledgeable about preparations (and even the maitre-d and bussers are knowledgeable/helpful), everyone seems eager to please, and the restaurant has a great look and vibe. Our only complaints are extremely minor: there are only a few conversation-friendly tables in the place, near the stairway downstairs/kitchen; otherwise, it's impossible to hear conversation. (They have a second floor, which should be quieter, but it was closed the day we dined). And there was a minor screw-up: we specifically said we don't eat pork, but the beans that came with the chicken had pork in them.
But we can't wait to go back.
Always a great dining experience! We always come here when we get into town.
Food was excellent, but the experience wasn't great... had a weeknight reservation which we showed up on time for and still had to wait 20 minutes for our table. Finally get seated at table closest to the host stand, so people were congregating all around us for the first 45 minutes of our meal, plus we were near the door so got blasted with cold air every few minutes. But at least the food was great!
Food was fine, but not that special for restaurant week. Tried the fried calamari, etc entree. Key lime desert was quite good.
I thought the food and variety was excellent. Value was very strong. I will definitely return to try a number of their dishes.
Great food. Cocktail drinks are a must. Great for a lunch date.
Very accommodating with vegan modifications
great little gem in River North! Highly recommend Tanta if you are looking for a change of pace and a variety of great Peruvian food.
