Tanta has two Chef’s Tables that each seat up to 10 people. These tables are located in our main dining room in between our open kitchen and cebiche bar which allows you and your guests to experience our chefs creating Peruvian cuisine while you dine.
The menu, created by Acurio and Tanta Chicago Chef Giancarlo Valera, takes diners on a voyage through Peru via its food. From the Pacific Ocean, through the Andes, to the desert, to the Amazon, Tanta celebrates the diverse landscape and ethnicities that make up Peru’s culture.

The food our party had was nothing short of phenomenal. We had to push our reservation back 30 minutes after making it due to traveling circumstances, and the hostess was very accommodating and understanding.

The drinks were delicious but the food was just "okay." For the price of everything, we expected better. The decor was cheap and plain, the door to the rooftop was open on a 92 degree day so the inside was still warm, and the service was a tad slow (although they were very friendly). My husband and I went to Tanta expecting an amazing experience but left feeling a little disappointed.
We are, however, willing to give them another chance. I think we'll try going for dinner instead of brunch next time, and opt to get some red meat (their rib-eye) instead of all fish. Hopefully it'll be better next time around.
The food and the service are not as good as it used to be before covid. I believe the crisis made them to fire their forme chef. Service is really bad. They brought our food before bringing our plates and utensils and the waiter was rude.
I do hope their improve their quality in general because I don’t think I would come back .
Delicious colorful creative food. Excellent server. Very enjoyable. The chocolate mousse was the favorite of all I have ever had.

The menu has so many things that the 3 of us wanted to try! Our server, Andres, was so helpful in helping us narrow our choices. Cocktails were amazing! (Again - hard to choose!) I did the pisco sour - so good! AND beautiful!! We started with the taro and plantain chips. The dipping sauce was fantastic! We then tried both empanadas - BEST crust ever! The Classico Cebiche was delish. I debated ordering another one!! We then split two beef dishes Churrasco Pachamanca and Lomo Saltado. Wow! Just wow! No room for dessert. We are all planning a trip back to try more. Our server was amazing —Attentive, friendly and so so helpful with the menu! Compliments to the kitchen staff! The food was so good and plated beautifully. I have eaten on their rooftop and that is a fun experience but not getting a reservation there is not a reason to pass on this gem of a restaurant!

Overpriced, the food is not that tasty as a Peruvian dish should be. Understand that is more for American customers and trying to do more a gourmet food but shouldn’t loose the essence, if not, should said something like Peruvian-American cuisine so you will not be disappointed if you are looking for a real Peruvian food.

The flavors all were playing on our senses! Wonderful combination of foods, spices, flavors. They even served us a champagne toast for our anniversary! Our server was so knowledgeable about the ingredients and my GF needs. We were so pleasantly educated on Peruvian cuisine. We will definitely visit again!
Not too impressed with the quality of the food. The food attendant did not explain what Peruvian food is. The seafood dish that I ordered was very sweet which was weird for a seafood dish. The server was not careful with the food service, the chicken fell out of the tray and landed on our table. We had a chicken on our table 🙄!!! We had to get the attention of the waitstaff forever, although we’ll give them a pass for now since we understand the that they were short-staffed. I ordered an iced tea-lemonade and that took at least 20 min. Don’t think we’ll be going back.

Out to dinner with friends (two couples) for a birthday celebration and had a great experience. Really fresh and creative meals and excellent cocktails. The cebiche was particularly good as were the roasted vegetables. Our server Andres was excellent and took extra effort to make us not feel rushed when we realized that the restaurant had taken our booking for 9:00, but was closing the kitchen at 9:30. He definitely saved it from being a bad experience. We would all recommend Tanta as a great special occasion destination.
The food was good but not for the price. Nothing special.
I gave five stars for the service because the bartender let me order three minutes after the kitchen had closed, great guy. The reason I’m writing this is because I want to note that the hostess had a little bit of an ego. I get that we’re in River North, but the customer is always right…figure it out.
As always, food was great. We ordered several appetizers to share and a couple of main entrees. Our waiter was super helpful. Can’t wait to go back. It was a great place to celebrate my birthday.
We love it here. The food is always amazing. The problem is usually trying to narrow to what you want bc you want to order EVERYTHING. We went with the Experiencia Peruana.

Food and service were excellent. The seafood platter was really good. It was a little loud but not offensive. The mood was lively and fun. Great for a date night or with friends.
The food is absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered were soooo good. Service is top notch! Price is just right! Indoor rest nothing that special but I think the outdoor seating would be nicer upstairs. Restaurant was dark but good atmosphere..maybe a music ambience would be nice to counteract with the noise level.
Please order chicken empanadas for appetizer. The best! Add in the menu fried plantains...this would be lovely

The food at Tanta is hands down orgasmic. We had the most amazing experience celebrating my boyfriends birthday where we got the front seat to the new sushi options being created right before our eyes. The service is impeccable- we were treated like special guests with detailed explanations of the notes in our food to special creations compliments of the sushi chef shared our way. I have been in love with this restaurant since it opened years ago and it never disappoints. I do miss the original pulpo from the prior menu but the new sushi options are such an outstanding add. Love this place!!!

We loved Tanta! We had the Cebiche Classico, Taquitos de Lechon, Lomito - all fantastic with good portions and presentation. One had the Pollo a la Brasa, and it was good, but there are so many more adventurous and unique offerings. Good service, fun and lively venue.
Great food great service
First time here and it was worth it! The food was fresh, flavorful and beautifully prepared. The wait staff recommended some dishes to try and they were so good. The cerviche and pork loin appetizers, the fresh fish was Black Sea bass and fired like tempura and brought whole to table and a Peruvian paella. It was really loud so hard to hear sometimes but if you want good food, highly recommend.
